NBA Twitter reacts to Draymond Green and Klay Thompson getting ejected vs. Timberwolves

Twitter exploded after Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels were ejected following a heated scuffle in the opening minutes of Tuesday’s game between the Warriors and Timberwolves.

Tempers quickly flared between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves at the start of their in-season tournament contest on Wednesday night at Chase Center.

Before the first bucket of the game, three players were ejected after chaos broke out at center court. After Klay Thompson’s jersey was ripped by Timberwolves wing Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert got involved, pulling Thompson away from his teammate. The situation escalated when Green came to Thompson’s defense.

Green pulled Gobert’s head away from Thompson, putting the Timberwolves center in what appeared to be a headlock, holding him by the neck. After the teams were separated and the official reviewed the scuffle, Thompson, Green and McDaniels were ejected from the game. Wednesday marked Green’s second ejection of the season.

Following the trio of ejections, the NBA community on Twitter erupted with reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on social media on Wednesday evening.

NBA Twitter reacts to Warriors dropping rough loss to Timberwolves to end road trip on Sunday

After the Warriors dropped a rough road loss to the Timberwolves, NBA Twitter weighed in with different reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Sunday.

To end their road swing, the Golden State Warriors had to push past the Minnesota Timberwolves without a pair of All-Stars on Sunday.

With Steph Curry (hand) and Draymond Green (calf) ruled out against the Timberwolves, the Warriors needed to count Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins to keep up with Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Warriors were able to hang in the game behind the effort of Poole and rookie Jonathan Kuminga. However, an explosive second-half run from the Timberwolves opened the game up for the home team.

In the second half, the Timberwolves outscored the Warriors 63-49 to coast to a 119-99 victory. While Karl-Anthony Towns led the way with 26 points and 11 rebounds, the Warriors had trouble containing Minnesota’s second unit. Malik Beasley and Jaylen Norwell combined for 33 points off the bench against the Warriors.

Poole led the Warriors with 20 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field with four rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes. Kuminga added 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field with seven boards and an assist in 33 minutes off the bench.

After the Warriors finished their road trip with a 1-3 record, the NBA community on Twitter chimed in with reactions. Here is a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Sunday night.

3 things to know: James Wiseman and Kelly Oubre Jr. lead Warriors past T-Wolves, 123-111

Rookie James Wiseman tallied a career-high 25 points to help lead the Warriors to their second straight win over the Timberwolves.

Heading into a two-game stretch against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Golden State Warriors split their previous two “baseball series” on the 2020-21 season. However, the Warriors registered their first two-game sweep of the season after capping off a 123-111 victory over the T-Wolves on Wednesday at Chase Center.

After stealing a two-point lead in the first quarter, the Warriors were able to steadily build an advantage throughout the game behind a collective effort from Steve Kerr’s rotation. With five different players scoring in double-figures, the Warriors shot 52.9% from the field along with netting 15 triples against Minnesota.

Rookie James Wiseman led Golden State with a new career-high. The 2020 No. 2 overall pick tallied 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field with six boards and two blocks in 24 minutes off the bench. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field with nine boards, three assists, two steals and a block in 24 minutes.

With a back-to-back on the horizon, the Warriors won’t have much time to celebrate their two-game winning streak. Golden State will head to Phoenix for the second leg of a back-to-back on Thursday.

Kent Bazemore provides an early spark

With Steph Curry missing his first seven shots and Oubre Jr. quickly recording a pair of fouls, Kerr looked to his second unit for an early spark. Kent Bazemore made an immediate impact off the bench.

The veteran guard scored seven points on 2-of-3 shooting from the field with three boards, a steal and a block in 10 first-quarter minutes. With Bazemore’s much-needed help, the Warriors were able to jump out to a two-point lead despite a slow start.

Kelly Oubre Jr.’s second quarter

Following Bazemore’s effort in the opening 12 minutes, Oubre Jr. headlined the second quarter. Oubre Jr. notched a new quarter career-high with 16 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field against Minnesota. Along with his impressive scoring mark, Oubre Jr. stacked the boxscore before halftime. The 25-year-old registered three boards, three assists and two steals in the second quarter.

After notching two early fouls, Oubre Jr. quickly bounced back for one of his best performances in a Golden State Warriors uniform.

Anthony Edwards vs. James Wiseman

Highlighted by the battle between Wiseman and Anthony Edwards, the 2020 NBA draft class was on full display on Wednesday. While Wiseman led the Warriors with 25 points, Edwards recorded 25 points of his own on 9-of-19 shooting with four boards, three steals and two assists.

During the third quarter, Wiseman added to his rookie highlight reel with a must-watch sequence. On the defensive end of the floor, Wiseman sent away Jake Layman with a powerful block. The Memphis product then ran the floor to cap off the fastbreak with an emphatic one-handed slam dunk.

Timberwolves vs. Warriors (Part 2): Live stream, how to watch, TV channel, rookie watch, previous result, start time on Jan. 27

Following a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Golden State Warriors will have the chance for a two-game series sweep on Wednesday.

After the Golden State Warriors reeled off a 130-108 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, the pair of teams will run it back on Wednesday night at Chase Center.

Steph Curry led the way in game one of the series with 36 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field with four boards, three assists and three steals. The two-time Most Valuable Player caught fire from beyond the arc, sinking seven triples on 12 attempts. Following Curry, Andrew Wiggins notched 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting in his first game against his former team.

In round two, D’Angelo Russell could make his return to Chase Center for the first time since being traded last season. The former Golden State point guard missed Monday’s contest due to a quad injury. Russell is listed as questionable on the injury report for Wednesday’s tilt in the Bay Area.

Before the Warriors close out a two-game run against the Timberwolves, here is how to watch or stream the contest and everything else you need to know about the matchup.

3 things to know: Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins combine for 59 points in 130-108 win over Minnesota Timberwolves

Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins paired for 59 points to snap the Warriors’ two-game losing streak with a win over the Timberwolves, 130-108.

Following a pair of consecutive losses, the Golden State Warriors got back in the win column with a 130-108 win over the injury-hampered Minnesota Timberwolves.

After taking an 11 point advantage in the first quarter, the Warriors paced the T-Wolves for a wire-to-wire victory at Chase Center. While the Timberwolves were able to cut into Golden State’s lead at different moments in the game, the combination of Andrew Wiggins and Steph Curry helped stifle any Minnesota run.

The Timberwolves will stay in the Bay Area for the second game of a two-game series slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. PST.

Here are three things to know from Golden State’s 130-108 win from Monday.

New starting lineup makes first impression

Instead of James Wiseman, Steve Kerr opted to start Kevon Looney at center for the first time this season. While Looney only recorded two points in 19 minutes, Golden State’s opening five flowed on both sides of the floor, jumping out to an 11 point lead in the first quarter.

In 16 minutes off the bench, Wiseman recorded 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field with four rebounds and two blocks in his first appearance in the second unit.

Steph Curry, the closer

With the Timberwolves mounting a comeback in the fourth quarter, Curry took the game over. The two-time Most Valuable Player closed the game, scoring 15 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter. Curry was perfect from beyond the arc, hitting three shots from long distance. The six-time All-Star recorded his game-sealing flurry in only four minutes in the fourth quarter.

Double whammy

Although it was their first meeting of 2021, the Warriors and Timberwolves will be connected throughout the remainder of the season. Along with Wiggins, the Timberwolves sent their top-three protected 2021 first-round pick to Golden State in the D’Angelo Russell blockbuster trade.

By winning against Minnesota on Monday, the Warriors essentially improved their potential draft position. Following the loss, the Timberwolves fell to 4-12 on the season, the worst record in the Western Conference. According to Tankathon, the Timberwolves currently hold the No. 2 overall selection in the 2021 draft.

*Bonus: The Anthony Edwards dunk

Although the Warriors won the game, Anthony Edwards may have some bragging rights over his fellow top overall draft pick. The No. 1 overall pick flew through the lane for a vicious one-handed tomahawk dunk past Wiseman in the first quarter.

To stop a two-game losing streak, the Golden State Warriors will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday at Chase Center. Here is how to watch and stream the contest.

After two ugly losses, the Golden State Warriors will have the opportunity to stop the slide against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday at Chase Center. Monday’s tilt against the T-Wolves will mark the first time since the pair of teams have met on the floor since agreeing to a blockbuster trade at last year’s deadline that included Andrew Wiggins and D’Angelo Russell.

However, one of the featured pieces of the trade may be sidelined for the matchup. Russell is listed as questionable for the contest with a right quad contusion. The former Golden State point guard is averaging 20.5 points on 43.2% shooting from the field with 5.5 assists and three rebounds in 30.7 minutes through 14 games in the 2020-21 season.

Along with the potential battle between Russell and Wiggins, Monday’s game will display the top two selections in the 2020 NBA draft. For the first time in their careers, No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards will lineup across from No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman.

In their rookie seasons, Edwards is averaging 12.1 points on 34.7% shooting from the field with 2.7 boards and 1.7 assists per game, while Wiseman is averaging 11.8 points on 50.8% shooting from the field with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Before the Warriors welcome the T-Wolves to the Bay Area, here is how to watch or stream the contest and everything else you need to know about the matchup.
