Chiefs DT Chris Jones reveals season-long routine going into Super Bowl LIX: ‘I’m not changing’

Kansas City #Chiefs defensive tackles Chris Jones reveals season-long routine going into Super Bowl LIX: ‘I’m not changing’ | @EdEastonJr

Many motivations and factors go into a long NFL season, especially for teams that make the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs are going for an unprecedented three-peat this Sunday, and one of their star players reveals the superstitious secret to his success.

“There’s no pressure. I’ve been prepared for this for so long, and for these moments, I’m familiar with this, the environment, and how big the game is. So it’s really no pressure,” said Chris Jones during Wednesday’s press conference. “It’s more so for me, just preparing, making sure my preparation is on point, making sure I don’t do nothing out of the ordinary or change or anything. I’m a little superstitious, so I gotta stick to the routine even though I’m not home. I gotta make sure everything is flowing like I’m at home.”

Jones’s routine extends to his clothing on the field and his resistance to changing it, especially during the winning streak.

“I wear the same gloves,” Jones said. “I wear the same cleats. I don’t change up cleats throughout the season. My gloves smell like a dead animal. Especially if I get a sack in them, man, it’s over with, I’m done. I’m not changing them up here.”

Aside from the possible smell, Jones jokingly explained that he is a creature of habit. The formula has worked well for the perennial All-Pro, seeking a fourth Super Bowl title on Sunday.

New Orleans could be the site where Super Bowl history is made

Super Bowl LIX held in New Orleans could be the site of history being made, as the Chiefs pursue the elusive “three-peat”

The “three-peat”. An elusive statistic where a team is able to complete three championship victories back to back in their respective sport. This is something that does not happen every day, and even the long-time dynasty New England Patriots were unable to complete this task. In the NFL, it has never happened before, and this is the only sport of the “Big Four” in North America to not have a team ever three-peat.

The last North American sports league to have this feat accomplished was the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, who completed it with their 2000, 2001, and 2002 seasons. Next up in recency was the MLB with the New York Yankees, who completed it from 1998 to 2000. Then finally there is the NHL, and the legendary New York Islanders group back in the 1980s who actually won four in a row in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983.

Now the NFL is on the precipice of wrapping things up and having a team from each of the big four sports in North America to have three-peated. With that in mind, it could happen on the doorstep of the New Orleans Saints, as Super Bowl LIX is hosted in Caesars Superdome for the first time since XLVII in 2013.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one game away from making history, and becoming forever immortalized as not only a dynasty, but one of THE dynasties in all of sports. As much as fans and media alike prefer dynasties not to form and parity to take control, you also sometimes have to step back and appreciate greatness as it is happening.

Eight teams in NFL history have made two Super Bowl victories in a row happen, but will the Chiefs be able to add the third in a row to the victory column? We will find out on Feb. 9 as both teams travel to the bayou and battle for supremacy.

Andy Reid ranks second in NFL history for most playoff wins

Andy Reid has the second-most playoff wins in NFL history after guiding the #Chiefs to a Super Bowl LVIII victory.

Andy Reid has lifted the Kansas City Chiefs to new heights since joining the team in 2013 and has put together a sterling resume that is sure to get him enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he retires.

The Chiefs’ ability to win games in the playoffs is a testament to Reid’s genius as a head coach who has earned Kansas City three Super Bowl rings in the last five years.

After the team’s playoff run earlier this year, Reid now ranks second all-time for the most postseason wins in NFL history.

This remarkable accomplishment wasn’t achieved without significant effort on the part of Reid and the Chiefs’ players who have committed themselves to creating the NFL’s next dynasty.

With expectations at an all-time high heading into Kansas City’s 2024 campaign, Reid should be expected to do everything he can to help the Chiefs complete a three-peat next season.

Trent McDuffie earned fourth-best PFF grade among CBs in 2023

#Chiefs star Trent McDuffie earned the fourth-best PFF grade among all cornerbacks in 2023.

Trent McDuffie’s rise to dominance was a welcome sign for Kansas City Chiefs fans in 2023, and his contributions are sure to be integral in his team’s effort to complete a Super Bowl three-peat next season.

While McDuffie’s outstanding play last year was a sight to behold, it can be difficult for fans to contextualize just how dominant he was, especially given that he didn’t manage to snag an interception during the Chiefs’ 2023 campaign.

Pro Football Focus player grades are handy for this application and serve as an easily digestible way for fans to wrap their heads around the performances of their favorite stars.

McDuffie earned an 85.8 PFF grade for his efforts last season, which ranked as the fourth-best mark of any player at the cornerback position.

Though he may not have graded out as the best cornerback in the NFL, his stellar play spoke for itself, and McDuffie seems primed to continue developing with the Chiefs next season as Kansas City chases its fourth ring of the Patrick Mahomes era.
