Pat McAfee praises Notre Dame fans during Ohio State weekend

We already knew this, but not everyone else does.

Notre Dame might not have beaten Ohio State, but Irish fans are winners in Pat McAfee’s eyes. In the first episode of his show after his South Bend experience, McAfee did everything to praise the people who showed up ahead ahead of the contest. He drops some NSFW language here; otherwise, you need to hear what he had to say:

It’s amazing when an outsider confirms what Irish fans already knew about the fan base. Everyone who’s a part of it really does love football, and that’s why it hurt so badly to come so close to watch the Irish miss out on a signature win by the skin of their teeth. It was clear what a win would have meant, but that will have to wait for another day and possibly another season.

Don’t ever let anyone question how seriously Irish fans take their sport. They want a national champion, and hopefully, one will come once again.

Lou Holtz makes his pick for Notre Dame vs. Ohio State

Do you agree with Coach?

The anticipation for this [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] is weekend is getting to all of us, but as we wait until Saturday evening, there are plenty of people making their projections for the Ohio State game.

One of those selections was by legendary Irish head coach [autotag]Lou Holtz[/autotag]. The leader of the most recent Notre Dame football championship team in 1988, joined [autotag]The Pat McAfee Show[/autotag], which was on campus for their broadcast on Friday afternoon.

Holtz believes the Irish will win by 10 points and thinks the “Notre Dame is a better football team than Ohio State.” He cites the Irish’s offensive protecting quarterback [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] and opening up running lanes for the backs.

Not only that, Holtz has faith in the Irish receivers and the defensive line is better.

Saturday night can’t get here sooner, can it?

Former Browns center JC Tretter joins Pat McAfee show, discusses NFLPA business

Here is a summary of NFLPA President’s interview on the Pat McAfee show.

Former Cleveland Browns center and NFLPA president JC Tretter was on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss the direction of the NFLPA after electing the new executive director Lloyd Howell. The interview was a little over 30 minutes long, not including some technical difficulties that disconnected the two.

Pat McAfee, the longtime NFL special teamer, has been a vocal critic of the players association. The interview provided rare insights into the tight-lipped union. Here are the most important takeaways from the interview.

WATCH: Brownie the Elf reveals new dog logo on The Pat McAfee Show

And the winner is…

The Cleveland Browns went in search of a new dog logo to replace their current and outdated one. So they called upon the fans to submit their designs for the rest of the fanbase to vote on. And it came down to a final two to be put up for a final vote. The Browns then took to The Pat McAfee Show on Monday to announce the winner of the contest, with a little help from Brownie the Elf.

You can also now buy apparel with the new logo on it on the team website as they have fully rolled out the new look.

Aaron Rodgers speaks highly of Nathaniel Hackett, saying thought of Jets hiring Hackett just to lure him ‘diminishes’ what he is as coach

Rodgers says Hackett is a great human being and teacher. Just saying he was hired to lure Rodgers “diminishes” his coaching abilities.

Aaron Rodgers told Pat McAfee Wednesday that his intention for the 2023 season is to play for the New York Jets. The Jets had also hired Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator.

There was some thought that Hackett was hired more or less as bait for Rodgers since the two worked together for three years in Green Bay while Hackett served as offensive coordinator under head coach Matt LaFleur. Rodgers isn’t buying any of that and believes that notion takes away from what Hackett is and can do as a head coach.

“If there’s any offense I’ve taken today…it’s to that,” Rodgers said when the conversation was brought up on McAfee’s show. “That actually diminishes the ability he has to coach football and connect with people. Anybody that’s been around Nathaniel Hackett knows that he brings a lot of energy, a lot of fun, he’s an incredible teacher of the game, especially the quarterback position and he’s a really good human being.”

“So for people to say that was done just as an attempt to lure me is a total disservice to Nathaniel Hackett, what he’s accomplished in his career, what kind of person that he is.”

Aaron Rodgers hilariously signs off of The Pat McAfee Show with ‘Go Browns’

Aaron Rodgers is a Browns fan this weekend

The Cleveland Browns have an additional fan this weekend as they get set to take on Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders. Making his regular appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers signed off on the show with a hilarious nod to Cleveland, exiting with, “Go Browns.”

The Packers, of course, need the help of the Browns to make the playoffs this season as a loss by the Commanders would put them in a win-and-in situation in Week 18. Can the Browns help Rodgers and the Packers out this weekend? It sure would go a long way in smoothing over some tension between the team and the fanbase.

Pat McAfee is about to make so much more money than he made in the NFL

The Pat McAfee Show has agreed to a deal with FanDuel that will net the show nearly $30 million per year.

The Pat McAfee show is in for a hefty payday with FanDuel agreeing to a four-year deal worth $30 million annually, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The deal keeps FanDuel as the sole odds provider of the show.

The show launched in February of 2017, featuring current and former professional athletes Glenn Robinson III, Matt Hasselbeck and Dan Dakich in its debut episode. McAfee called it “very, very, very, very, very small” at the time. Five years, and 554 episodes later, McAfee and his team are set to cash in and plan to further evolve as a show.

“We’ll be doing this show for the time to come,” McAfee said in a video announcing the deal. “We’ll be doing it hopefully in a bigger way. We’ll be doing it in our own way. We’ll still have all of our other partners. They’re giving us money to go on live show events and make live-shows happen around the country so we can go out and meet everybody. I can’t [expletive] wait for it.”

McAfee spent eight seasons with the Indianapolis Colts as the team’s punter before retiring from the NFL in 2017. He netted just north of $15 million over his playing career. His show will now bring in twice that amount annually from FanDuel alone.

Mark Sanchez empathizes with Sam Darnold, says Jets are ‘in no way ready to compete’

Mark Sanchez doesn’t believe the Jets have fielded a team that can be competitive in the NFL, feels for Sam Darnold.

Mark Sanchez sees the same dysfunction that ultimately plagued his Jets career happening to Sam Darnold.

The Jets are 0-3, have been outscored 94-37 and have yet to look competitive through three weeks of football. Darnold has struggled, but he also hasn’t had much to work with in terms of a supporting cast.

For Sanchez, it’s an all too familiar sight.

“You’re putting a product out there on the field that is in no way ready to compete with the league. Honestly, it is frustrating to watch and I really feel for Sam. I’ve lived it,” the former Jets QB said on the Pat McAfee Show Monday. “The last two seasons I had in New York, the rosters looked almost identical.”

Sanchez has been on the other side. He was part of two teams that went to back-to-back AFC Championship Games. It was later in his Jets career that the roster around him became insufficient. From 2012-13, Sanchez had a supporting class that included an injury-riddled Santonio Holmes, Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill, Jeff Cumberland, Shonn Greene, Bilal Powell, a run-down offensive line and Tim Tebow.

As bad as New York’s offensive skill players were then, they might be even worse for Darnold now. The Jets’ current top healthy skill players are Braxton Berrios, Chris Herndon and Frank Gore.

Sanchez and Darnold, who worked out together in Southern California during the offseason, have a lot in common. They’re both former USC quarterbacks who left college early. Both were touted as saviors for the Jets coming out of college, but only Sanchez was drafted to a team that was ready to compete for a Super Bowl.

As we’ve seen during Darnold’s first three years in the league, the Jets are a long way from being competitive.

Mark Schlereth thinks Broncos fans should lower lofty expectations for 2020

Mark Schlereth thinks some fans are too optimistic about the Broncos’ prospects in 2020.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, former Broncos offensive lineman Mark Schlereth offered a “dose of reality” about Denver’s prospects for the 2020 NFL season.

Schlereth praised quarterback Drew Lock but noted that the team’s inexperienced roster shouldn’t be expected to compete for a title this year.

“You have two rookie wide receivers that you’re counting on,” Schlereth told McAfee. “You’ve got a plethora of [young players] . . . you’ve got Courtland Sutton who’s the veteran there who’s only going into this third season [and] he was raw when he came out of college.

“You’ve got an offensive line that’s got issues that’s going to be anchored by a rookie center . . . all I say is, ‘Hey guys, before we put them in the Super Bowl, let’s actually let them play a little bit of football and see what they become.'”

After an excellent offseason, the Broncos have received plenty of praise from several members of the national media. Schlereth, who won two Super Bowls with Denver, thinks fans should temper their lofty expectations.
