Clemson’s “Avengers” stepped up in the fifth-ranked Tigers’ 30-20 victory over No. 10 NC State on Saturday night at Death Valley.

This year’s Clemson defensive line is calling itself The Avengers – a nod to Marvel Comics’ popular fictional team of superheroes – and they showed up in a big way against the Wolfpack.

The top-10 showdown proved to be a mismatch at the line of scrimmage, with Clemson’s defensive front dominating NC State’s offensive line.

With defensive tackle Bryan Bresee (non-football medical) and defensive end Xavier Thomas (foot) not playing, the other Avengers made their collective presence felt, getting after NC State quarterback Devin Leary on a consistent basis and rendering the Wolfpack running game virtually nonexistent.

NC State ran for just 34 yards on 21 attempts, averaging 1.6 yards per tote. Wolfpack rushers were hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on a bunch of rushing attempts, and Tiger defensive linemen combined for four tackles for loss.

Meanwhile, Clemson defensive linemen totaled a couple of sacks and five quarterback hurries, with defensive end Myles Murphy leading the line with 1.5 sacks of his own.

Defensive end KJ Henry had a big game, notching a tackle for loss to go with a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries, as well as a fumble recovery. Defensive tackle Tyler Davis contributed half a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.

Overall, Clemson’s defense held NC State’s offense to just two touchdowns in the game — one of which came during garbage time in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

Clemson’s Avengers and the rest of the Tigers will return to action next Saturday at Boston College.

Former Tiger on ‘a big reason’ why he thinks Clemson will go unbeaten in ’22

The Avengers have this former Clemson standout very excited for the Tigers’ 2022 football season.

No, of course not the superheroes portrayed in Marvel’s film and comic book series, but rather the Clemson defensive linemen who have adopted those superhero identities heading into next season – namely guys like 2021 All-ACC selections Xavier Thomas, Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee and Tyler Davis, and fellow returning standout K.J. Henry, among others on the loaded defensive front.

On the Gramlich and Mac Lain podcast with Kelly Gramlich this week, former Clemson and All-ACC offensive lineman Eric Mac Lain discussed what he is most excited for as it pertains to the Tigers entering the 2022 campaign.

As you’d expect, Mac Lain mentioned Clemson’s quarterback competition between rising junior D.J. Uiagalelei and five-star freshman Cade Klubnik.

But the Tigers’ defensive line — which is calling itself The Avengers and has drawn comparisons to Clemson’s 2018 D-line that dubbed itself as the Power Rangers — has Mac Lain pumped about the potential of Dabo Swinney’s team in 2022, a team that Mac Lain believes can run the table in the ACC and get through the regular season without a loss.

“That quarterback position battle, for sure, and just seeing who can rise up from that. But then also this defensive line,” Mac Lain said of what excites him most about Clemson. “I spoke about it last year, shades of that 2018 team, and then some injuries kind of threw a curveball into that. If they can stay healthy, these guys will be the best defensive line in all of college football. And a lot of people, as myself, have compared them to that defensive line that were called the Power Rangers. They say no man, we have so much depth, we are The Avengers. And they all went out on Twitter and kind of named who they were, which I thought was super cool and just fun for fans and for people to be able to talk about. But those guys have proven it, and you have a couple of older guys in KJ Henry and Xavier Thomas that could’ve left but decided to come back – and Tyler Davis – for this final run, like a lot of those guys on that ’18 team did.

“So, I think something special is brewing there and a big reason why I believe Clemson is going to go undefeated in this regular season.”

I rewatched the entire MCU to get ready for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Here’s what I learned.

The MCU from Captain America: The First Avenger to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swung into theaters Thursday night, giving movie fans a semblance of the experience from pre-pandemic times as raucous crowds cheered, cried, and clapped at each turn. This is the 27th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a behemoth that has spanned 13 years, multiple characters, and brought in over $23 billion worldwide.

In order to prepare for the third entry of this Spider-Man saga, I rewatched all 30 bits of content, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger and ending with the latest episode of the Hawkeye series on Disney+ before heading to a 6pm showing of No Way Home.

Here are some things I learned along the way, and if you want to see all my thoughts, check out the thread that starts here:

[Note: this contains spoilers for the MCU, but NOT for No Way Home]

Ranking the Marvel movies, from ‘The Incredible Hulk’ to ‘Black Panther’

The Marvel movies, from worst to first.

After Black Widow debuts on July, 9, 2022, the Marvel movies come fast and furious. Executive Kevin Feige has big plans for the MCU, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder coming in the next 12 months.

It’s going to be so much fun.

Before we get too far ahead, perhaps it’s time to look back and take stock of what we’ve already seen in the MCU. Rankings are always fun — and never controversial … right? So here’s a look at how we rank the movies from Marvel from Phase 1 until now.

CAUTION: Before you dive in, be aware that I reveal important plot points from a number of the movies. If you don’t want spoilers from a movie you haven’t seen, you may want to exit the article — or skip over descriptions for certain movies.
