Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Brittany Matthews celebrate first Thanksgiving with daughter Sterling

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and fiancée Brittany Matthews posed with daughter Sterling Mahomes for some photos of her first Thanksgiving.

An eventful 2021 NFL campaign has the Kansas City Chiefs in the top spot of their divisional rankings on Turkey Day, which conveniently fell on the team’s bye week this season. While they are certain to be thankful for the much-needed time off, the Raiders’ win on Thursday leaves them with plenty of work to do to stay in the lead with just six games remaining this year.

QB Patrick Mahomes seemed unphased by the circumstances surrounding the NFL’s Thanksgiving schedule and its implications for the AFC standings, posing for pictures with his fiancée and daughter that was posted to social media in celebration of Thursday’s holiday.

“1st Thanksgiving with Ster Girl🤎🦃 Extra thankful,” Matthews wrote on Instagram. “Happy Thanksgiving everyone😘.”

Family and football go together like mashed potatoes and gravy, especially on such a special day as Thanksgiving. Speculation remains as to what the spread looked like at the family’s gathering, but with Patrick Mahomes in the mix, it is a fair assumption that ketchup was involved in one way or another.

The Chiefs’ next matchup will be against the Denver Broncos on December 5th, just three weeks from Christmas, which is sure to be a special time for the first-time dad. Fans are certainly hoping that Kansas City can secure another Super Bowl berth this season. Ideally, the time off this past week will ensure the team is well rested for their final push for the postseason.

In the end, the athletic pursuits of the 500-million-dollar quarterback pale in comparison to the new duties he faces off the field as a dad, especially as the holiday season gets into full swing. As much as the city is rooting for him as one of their most recognizable icons, they remain steadfastly committed to supporting him through his coming of age as a girl-dad, which could prove to be the most daunting challenge of his life.

Drew Brees’ slide into the Thursday Night Football broadcast was so perfect even Cris Collinsworth was in awe

Drew Brees is already so good at this.

Cris Collinsworth has been calling Sunday Night Football games for years now.

Part of the tradition in him calling games is him sliding into the broadcast after being introduced by the play-by-play host. He just comes into the broadcast so smoothly. It’s pretty awesome. He’s mastered it through the years.

Yet, here Drew Brees is in what is essentially his rookie season in the broadcast booth calling the games and he has the slide down to a science already.

On the Thursday Night Football Thanksgiving game, Brees slid into the broadcast booth just like Collinsworth. It was spectacular. Just great work.

Even Cris Collinsworth had to give it up for Brees.

And Brees called a pretty solid game, too, although the Saints didn’t really make it interesting.

Collinsworth better watch out, man. The new guy is pretty good.

Takeaways from the Lions loss to the Bears on Thanksgiving

Here are some morning-after takeaways on the Lions’ Thanksgiving loss to the Bears.

The Detroit Lions failed to deliver a win once again in Week 12. Playing at home against a banged-up Chicago Bears team that had lost five in a row, the Lions once again couldn’t seal the deal on a late lead and fell, 16-14, on a last-second field goal by Bears kicker Cairo Santos.

Now that the tryptophan has worn off from the postgame turkey spread, it’s time to dive back into another game where the Lions played well enough to win but also just a bit worse to create the loss. Now 0-10-1 on the season, this game represented Detroit’s best chance all season to notch an entry in the win column.

Here are some morning-after takeaways on the Lions’ Thanksgiving loss to the Bears.

Falcons Twitter reacts to Saints getting blown out on Thanksgiving

The Falcons didn’t get to play on Thanksgiving this year, but fans have enjoyed seeing the Saints embarrassed on national TV.

The Atlanta Falcons didn’t get to participate in any of the NFL’s Thanksgiving games this year, but fans have enjoyed seeing other teams, including the division-rival New Orleans Saints, get embarrassed on national television. The Detroit Lions got things started with a predictably heartbreaking loss to the Chicago Bears.

Then, the Cowboys were outdueled by the Las Vegas Raiders before the Bills defeated the Saints, 31-6, to close out the night. Let’s check in on Falcons Twitter to see the best reactions to today’s Thanksgiving triple-header.

This is too cool. Drew Brees took a break from calling the New Orleans Saints’ prime-time game with the Buffalo Bills at halftime to address the roaring home crowd, something he was never able to do in his last season as a player before retiring.

Introduced by team owner Gayle Benson, Brees thanked the fans and reflected on his all-time-great run in black and gold before leading the iconic “Who Dat” chant and making his exit. The moment really speaks for itself; be sure to watch his address in the video embedded above.

6 things 49ers have to be thankful for in 2021

Happy Thanksgiving! 6 things the #49ers have to be thankful for this year.

The 2021 season hasn’t been great for the 49ers. Their 2-0 start quickly became 2-4, but three wins in their last four games has them at 5-5 on Thanksgiving.

While things haven’t been perfect for San Francisco, they could certainly be a lot worse. After all their early season ups and downs they find themselves playing for sole possession of a playoff spot in Week 12.

Instead of focusing on the things that’ve gone wrong this year, we’re taking time out on the Thanksgiving to run down the list of things the 49ers should be thankful for as November winds down:

Happy Holidays! Your favorite Sooners as your favorite Thanksgiving dishes

If key Oklahoma Sooners were your favorite Thanksgiving dishes, which would they be?

While the Oklahoma Sooners have given a lot of people a lot of reasons to be thankful this year, they still have some more opportunities to make fans even more thankful, starting with a game against in-state rival Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Thanksgiving is a time of reflection about all the things we are thankful for and a time that we can all sit back and indulge in some of our favorite foods. While we enjoy our family, friends, and favorite foods, the Sooners remain on our minds. If these Sooners were our favorite Thanksgiving staples, who would be what?

Troy Aikman’s perfect ‘Doink’ sound effect for this 70-yard punt made it so much better

Just do this for every punt, Troy.

Listen, man. It’s Thanksgiving. Y’all know how these things go. It’s time to sit around the living room with your family and watch the Lions play, uh, football? I guess? Is that what they do these days?

Look, the Lions aren’t good. And neither are the Bears. So there’s not too much to look forward to for this Thursday afternoon game.

But Troy Aikman is doing his absolute best in the booth to make things a bit more interesting. He added the perfect sound effect for this booming 70-yard punt from the Lions.

The ball floated in the air and bounced off a player’s helmet. Initially, it was unclear which player it hit. But on the replay, it’s clear it hits the Lions’ Bobby Price on the helmet.

There’s not much interesting about the play. But Aikman’s “doink” on the punt makes it SO much better. I mean, it’s perfect.

DOINK. That’s the best. Just give every punt sound effects from now on. It’ll be so much better.

It’d probably do some wonders for this game, too.
