Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover and Kevin Kisner join TGL

There are now 24 players committed to TGL.

Before the start of this week’s Zozo Championship in Japan, Min Woo Lee confirmed he was joining the TGL, the upstart, tech-infused league led by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and their joint venture, TMRW Sports.

Several hours later, TGL officially announced his arrival, along with three others: Patrick Cantlay, 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover and Kevin Kisner.

This brings the total of players committed to playing in the TGL to 24, the expected total.

Each of the six teams will roster four players, with three playing in each match allowing teams to give guys days off.

The opening matches will be held at TGL’s SoFi Center, located on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Florida, on Jan. 9, 2024.

Min Woo Lee confirms at 2023 Zozo Championship that he’s joining TGL

“Look at the roster, it’s crazy. It seems like everyone, and then there’s me.”

Although its website doesn’t bear his name quite yet, Min Woo Lee confirmed Tuesday during a press conference before the start of this week’s Zozo Championship in Japan he’s joining TGL, the upstart, tech-infused league led by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and their joint venture, TMRW Sports.

“Oh, it’s amazing,” Lee told the media at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club when asked about joining the league. “Look at the roster, it’s crazy. It seems like everyone, and then there’s me. I’m trying to do my best and compete with these guys. These guys, obviously, major champions and best in the world. I guess a bit of my fun personality and hopefully, I can play some good golf there, too. I really like that, like type of format, team event. I’m not sure what team I’ll be on, but yeah, I’ll be really excited.”

Lee is now the 20th player to commit to the new circuit, leaving four spots up for grabs. Each of the six teams will roster four players, however, only three will play in each match allowing teams to give guys days off.

Construction of the TGL’s SoFi Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Florida is now underway. The first matches will be played Jan. 9, 2024.

The new league is set to start in January 2024.

We all know about Monday Night Football, but who’s ready for some Monday Night Golf?

After announcing their new company TMRW Sports in August of 2022, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy also introduced TGL, a “new tech-infused league” that will partner with the PGA Tour.

Six teams of three PGA Tour players will compete in 15 regular season Monday night matches, followed by semifinals and finals matches, starting January 2024. The matches will be played at a tech-infused, short-game complex. Fans will be able to see every shot live over a 2-hour broadcast on primetime television.

Of the 18 players, so far 12 have been announced.

So far, four ownership groups have been announced with TGL Atlanta, TGL Boston, Los Angeles Golf Club and TGL New York.

On Monday, the TGL announced a multi-year partnership with SoFi Technologies, a digital personal finance company. SoFi is now the presenting sponsor of TGL, and the league’s arena on the campus of Palm Beach State College will be named the SoFi Center.

The SoFi Center is a nearly 250,000-square-foot venue that will house nearly 2,000 people at the Palm Beach Gardens Campus of Palm Beach State College. The air-supported dome is 75 feet high and covers the entire playing surface (97 yards by 50 yards). The hitting screen is 46 feet by 64 feet, roughly 20 times larger than a standard simulator screen. The venue also features a 40-yard-wide short game complex with three dynamic putting surfaces on a larger 3,800-square-foot putting surface. And don’t forget the three sand bunkers.

There will be two plazas outside the venue for pre-event activities and the entire facility is ADA-accessible.

USWNT star Morgan invests in new Woods-McIlroy golf league

Morgan and her husband Servando Carrasco have joined the ownership group of Los Angeles Golf Club

Alex Morgan has announced she and her husband Servando Carrasco have joined the ownership group of Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), a franchise in TGL, the new golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Billed as a “tech-infused golf league,” TGL will begin in January 2024 in conjunction with the PGA Tour, with matches to take place in prime time on Monday nights.

LAGC was confirmed as the league’s inaugural team, and features an ownership group that includes Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

That franchise has since been joined by teams in New York, Boston and Atlanta, each with high-profile owners (Steve Cohen, Fenway Sports Group and Arthur Blank, respectively). Two more franchises are set to be announced before the TGL begins.

Morgan has taken up golf in recent years, and even starred in a golf-themed Super Bowl commercial this year for Michelob Ultra.

TGL is aiming to attract younger audiences to golf, and will feature players hitting shots into a virtual screen before moving to “a data-rich, virtual course complete with a tech-infused, short-game complex.”

The matches will take place at a custom-built venue in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

“We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of action unfold right in front of you,” Woods said in a release when TGL launched. “It’s something that inherently isn’t possible in traditional golf — and an aspect of TGL that will set it apart and appeal to a new generation of fans.”

TGL will feature six teams with three-player rosters, with 12 pros already confirmed: Woods, McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Billy Horschel, Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick.

The inaugural season will feature a 15-match schedule followed by semifinals and a championship game.

TGL names New York franchise and owner

The fourth of sixth ownership groups to be announced has been purchased by New York Mets owner Steven Cohen.

Start spreading the news.

TGL, the new tech-forward, primetime, team golf league developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports in partnership with the PGA Tour, has announced the ownership of a team representing New York. The fourth of sixth ownership groups to be announced has been purchased by New York Mets owner Steven Cohen.

His TGL team representing New York will be managed by his family office, Cohen Private Ventures, and will compete in TGL’s first season launching in January 2024. The announcement was made on Thursday by Cohen and Mike McCarley, CEO, TMRW Sports and TGL.

“As golf continues to grow in popularity, there’s a demand for enhanced access to the sport and the world’s top players,” said Cohen, chairman and CEO of Point72 and owner of the Mets since 2020, in a release. “TGL’s primetime schedule will offer an up-close, fast-paced, and innovative take on the sport that will appeal to traditional golf and new fans alike.”

Said McCarley: “The addition of New York as a TGL team not only continues the success of adding major markets to TGL, but also adds an ownership group with strong ties to other major league teams and fanbases.”

TGL previously announced its first three of six ownership groups:

  • TGL Atlanta, led by Arthur M. Blank

  • Los Angeles Golf Club led by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams; as well as limited partners, the Antetokounmpo brothers

TGL team names, brands, front office staff, and players will be unveiled later this year, as will the inaugural schedule and other operational and fan-centric elements of TGL.

The primetime golf league will be staged in a purpose-built arena in Palm Beach, Fla., on the Palm Beach State College campus. Currently, 12 players committed to playing in TGL have been announced, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Rickie Fowler, and Billy Horschel.
