More people watched the Longhorns than any other team in Texas in 2023

Texas is still the flagship program of the state.

Texas Football Life recently released a graphic that highlights the 12 most viewed regular-season Texas college football games during 2023. Of the 12 games, the Texas Longhorns were the featured team in eight.

Texas’ games versus Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Kansas, Rice, Houston, Kansas State and TCU were in the top 12 of the most-watched games in Texas.

Texas A&M and TCU are the only other college football teams listed. Texas A&M featured three times among the most-watched games while TCU appeared once.

Looking at what Texas’ win over Alabama means for both teams

Nick Saban isn’t done yet, but the trajectory for both Texas and Alabama points in different directions.

The Texas Longhorns put forth their best performance of the Steve Sarkisian era in a 10-point victory over Alabama on Saturday night.

In addition to head coach Sarkisian, defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, offensive line coach Kyle Flood and starting quarterback Quinn Ewers delivered their best games in burnt orange.

The game has significant implications for both teams. Albeit, the positive implications are mostly reserved for Texas. For the time being, the Longhorns are being developed, the culture is functioning at a high level and the players are performing to their standard.

On the other side, it appears Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s message is going stale. It’s to be expected for a coach in his 17th season with the program, but it is no less fascinating to watch.

Here’s a look at what we take away from the game for both teams.

Social media reacts to Texas’ resounding victory over No. 3 Alabama

We look at some of the best reactions to Texas’ statement road win over No. 3 Alabama.

The Texas Longhorns made a statement on Saturday against the then-No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide. They stunned the kings of the SEC in their  backyard, 34-24. In doing so, they defeated college football’s standard-bearer of the last 15 years.

In the performance, the Longhorns secured their first win over a top three team on the road since defeating the No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks to win a national title in 1969. And they did so in dominant fashion.

The way in which Texas won was more remarkable. The Longhorns won with very little help from the running game.

Lead backs Jonathon Brooks and CJ Baxter combined for 88 yards on 27 carries, but much of that came later in the game. After a series of short runs, the dam broke and Brooks capitalized.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers shouldered the load to the tune of 349 passing yards and three touchdowns. The performance carried the team to victory.

Here’s a look at how social media took in the win.
