Report: Alabama transfer Drew Sanders plans to visit Texas

A big-time transfer target will be in Austin this weekend.

Alabama saw a mass exodus of players hit the transfer portal after their national championship loss on Monday.

One of the players on their way out to door in Tuscaloosa will be taking a visit to Austin this weekend, per Inside Texas.

Sanders is a former five-star from the 2020 recruiting class who would be a valuable addition to Texas’ defense. The second-year linebacker totaled 24 tackles and one sack while batting injury much of the 2021 season. He could fit right in at either the “jack” or “buck” position in Texas’ defense.

Sanders showed off his potential with a few big plays in a game against Florida early in the season.

Texas has already done well in the transfer portal this offseason as the Horns landed former Ohio State Buckeyes’ Quinn Ewers and Ryan Watts. Adding Sanders would be another key piece to the puzzle as Texas looks to rebuild the roster.

Numerous blue chip prospects on campus for Texas’ big recruiting weekend

There are stars everywhere on campus today.

It is a star-studded lineup in Austin right now as Texas is hosting what may be the biggest recruiting weekend in a decade.

With early signing day just four days away, Steve Sarkisian’s staff is absolutely grinding to bring in what is beginning to look like a monumental class for Texas football and the future of the program.

The staff has already secured a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Kelvin Banks, and they are hoping to bring in some more blue chip recruits like the top player in the transfer portal in quarterback Quinn Ewers.

If Texas is able to nab a few more commitments after today, the program will have as much momentum as it did when Sarkisian was first announced as the head coach.

As the day goes by, it seems like the list of visitors keeps growing and growing, but we’ve compiled a list of who has arrived to campus on Saturday up to this point.

Keep in mind that this list doesn’t include former players, such as Sam Ehlinger and Tope Imade, whom are also present to sway recruits to Austin. Current players Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy are on campus to visit with the Texas targets as well.

It’s clear that Sarkisian is pulling out all the stops this weekend.

Four-star OT Kam Dewberry will be on campus for Texas vs. Louisiana

Four-star offensive tackle Kam Dewberry will be in attendance for the season opener.

As No. 21 Texas prepares for their season opener against No. 23 Louisiana, Mike Roach of Horns247 reported on Friday evening that one of the Longhorns priority targets in the 2022 class is expected to be in attendance.

Four-star offensive tackle Kam Dewberry will be on campus on Sept. 4 to attend the game. The Atascocita product is fresh off of a win over Allen High School, serving the Eagles their first regular season loss since 2012 and their first home loss since 2010.

Dewberry is rated the No. 10 offensive tackle for the 2022 cycle and the No. 20 overall prospect from the state of Texas according to 247Sports composite rankings.

In April, Dewberry released a top five schools list of Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio State. According to 247Sports crystal ball predictions, the Aggies and Buckeyes appear to be in the lead.

He took official visits to Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU and Texas A&M over the last few months, with an unofficial to Austin sprinkled among them.

The 6-foot-4, 313-pounder possesses high-level physical traits and was named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American and first-team all-district selection in 2019.
