The No. 6 Texas Longhorns (12-2, 1-1 Big 12) battle the Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-5, 1-1) Saturday. Tip from Gallagher-Iba Arena is set for noon ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas vs. Oklahoma State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Texas gave up 58 first-half points in a 116-103 loss to Kansas State Tuesday, failing to cover as an 8.5-point home favorite. The Longhorns are 5-9 against the spread (ATS) this season and 0-3 ATS over their last 3. Texas ranks No. 10 in the nation in points per game (84.1). It also just lost its head coach, Chris Beard, who was fired amid a domestic family violence charge.

Oklahoma State beat West Virginia 67-60 Monday, covering as a 3-point home favorite. The Cowboys pushed their ATS record to 8-6 with the cover and have now covered 4 in a row and 5 of their last 6. Their strength is defense, ranking No. 6 in the nation in opponents’ field goal percentage (36.8%).

Texas at Oklahoma State picks and predictions

Prediction

Oklahoma State 70, Texas 68

Moneyline

LEAN OKLAHOMA STATE (+125).

The loss of Beard is going to give the Longhorns some issues. Losing your leader is always difficult, and I would fade the Longhorns until they prove they can overcome his loss.

Oklahoma State is 6-1 at home this season and 8-5 ATS on the season. The Cowboys lost to No. 3 Kansas by just 2 last Saturday and have won 3 of their last 4 games.

Oklahoma State has the 6th-most efficient defense in the nation, and without Beard captaining Texas, the dominant Cowboys defense should cause the Longhorns enough issues for the home side to come out on top.

Back OKLAHOMA STATE (+125).

Against the spread

PASS.

I would rather play the plus-money moneyline here.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 141.5 (-115).

The Cowboys are 5-8-1 O/U this season, and they are 0-3-1 O/U in their last 4 games. Oklahoma State has held 6 straight teams to 70 points or fewer and even held Kansas to just 69.

Oklahoma State averages 71 per game. Texas is 8-5-1 O/U, and it is coming off a massive game with 219 combined points. That should make the Over the more popular side.

However, while Texas is efficient offensively, on the road against an elite defense, I would back the Cowboys’ strength as the better side in this battle. That suggests fewer points to be scored. Texas gives up just 66.5 points per game as well.

Back the UNDER 141.5 (-115).

Texas at Oklahoma State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturdau’s Texas at Oklahoma State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 21 Texas Longhorns (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) will be in Stillwater to battle the 11th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-1, 2-1) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Texas vs. Oklahoma State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

After suffering its 1st loss of the season last week — 43-40 at TCU in double overtime — Oklahoma State returns home to battle Texas in a game which will make or break the conference championship ability for each of these teams.

Cowboys QB Spencer Sanders has been playing terrific since the 2nd half of a 37-35 Fiesta Bowl win Jan. 1 against Notre Dame. Suffering an injury in the season opener, Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers was able to return 2 weeks ago to help lead a surprising 49-0 rout at Oklahoma. In last week’s 21-17 escape against visiting Iowa State, the freshman showed why he’s considered among the best young QBs in the country. Along with star RB Bijan Robinson and WR Xavier Worthy, Texas looks like it might finally be back if not this year, in 2023.

The Oklahoma State defense has not been the top-5 unit it was last season under departed defensive coordinator Jim Knowles (now with Ohio State). But new DC Derek Mason has kept the defense in the top half of the NCAA rankings. With the offense behind Sanders reverting to the days when it was scoring to win games, the defense is good enough to win the Big 12.

This will be a fun game between 2 good offenses and 2 of the best QBs in the conference. Be ready for some fireworks.

Texas at Oklahoma State picks and predictions

Prediction

Oklahoma State 37, Texas 31

Moneyline

OKLAHOMA STATE (+190) is the play.

Not only are the Cowboys coming off their first loss of the season, but they return home knowing this is it for them in terms of the Big 12 race.

While Texas struggled and should have lost against an overmatched Iowa State team, Oklahoma State and Sanders will not be outmatched.

Mason’s Oklahoma State defense will make stops in this game and Texas’ Ewers will be confused by the defenses shown to him.

I like the Cowboys to get back on track. OKLAHOMA STATE (+190) my FAVORITE BET of this game.

Against the spread

Take Oklahoma State +6.5 (-110) if you’re not confident enough or nervous playing the +190 ML. Or, you can divvy up your 2 wagers (ML and spread) to equal 1½ units.

Oklahoma State will win this game outright. But if you want some wiggle room (or if you are adding this into a parlay), Oklahoma State +6.5 (-110) is safer and should still help you win some money.

Over/Under

BET OVER 61.5 (-107).

Yes, the defense for Oklahoma State can shut down some teams. But not Texas. The Longhorns offense just has too many weapons and with Ewers behind center, they have a QB to get the ball to them.

The Cowboys are coming off a game in which they gave up 43 to TCU in a double-OT loss. This game may not go to overtime, but the Longhorns can still get to 30.

I see the Cowboys getting more than 30 and that means an OVER 61.5 (-107) will hit.
