Oklahoma’s series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi canceled, per report

For the third time this week, Oklahoma’s season-opening series has been canceled per a report from D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.

It has been an extremely challenging week across many states this week due to severe winter weather making just about every aspect of daily life difficult. The sports landscape has been no different, and Oklahoma has had a hard of a time as anybody.

Sooners basketball had their game with Texas postponed twice before being bumped indefinitely, and now Oklahoma baseball has had their season-opening series canceled for a third time this week per a report from D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.

Originally, the Sooners were set to host Southern at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman for a three-game set running Friday-Sunday. But, weather canceled that so Oklahoma scheduled games with Wichita State set to be played in Round Rock, Texas on Saturday and Sunday.

But, once again, weather issues took that series off the board. Miraculously, the Sooners managed to find a third new opponent in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi but yet again, with boiling water notices in the area and just general difficulties with the weather, the games got the axe again.

We haven’t received official confirmation from the team yet on what this means going forward, but it would seem like despite great effort Oklahoma will be inactive on opening weekend. If that is the case, they will turn their attention to a Tuesday night matchup with Stephen F. Austin at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Oklahoma schedules series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for this weekend

After having each of their season-opening series canceled twice, Oklahoma is now set for a three-game series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Oklahoma baseball has now slotted in their third different opening weekend opponent in the last two days as it was announced Wednesday evening the Sooners will be hitting the road to do battle with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game set beginning on Saturday.

Originally, Oklahoma was set to host Southern at L. Dale Mitchell Park for a three-game Friday-Sunday series to open the 2021 season. But, after severe winter weather has gone through the area they canceled that series in lieu of a series with Wichita State in Round Rock, Texas.

That series didn’t quite last 48 hours as it got the axe due to winter weather issues at the facilities the games were set to be held. Now, insert Texas A&M-Corpus Christi who also had their opening weekend games against UT-Arlington canceled.

The Sooners and Islanders will do battle three times in two days just as Oklahoma was slated to do against the Shockers, but it will be flipped with the double-header coming on Sunday starting at noon CT. The first game will be seven innings, with the second being a full nine. They will open things by playing a stand alone game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT.

Now everyone sits back and hopes that third time is the charm here and the Sooners have finally found their season-opening opponent.
