Aggies baseball bests the Gators in SEC tournament opener

Aggies baseball bests the Gators in SEC tournament opener

The Aggies baseball team finally got to kickoff their Southeastern conference tournament journey on Thursday morning after weather delays pushed their game from the Wednesday evening slot.

The Florida Gators beat the South Carolina Gamecocks in the first round of the bracket on Tuesday, setting them up for a second round matchup with the Aggies.

Aggies starter Micah Dallas was very sharp on the mound, and reliever Joseph Menefee matched him, as the two combined to allow only one Gators basehit, while the Aggie bats flexed their muscles in the middle innings, capped by a seven run sixth inning featuring three A&M homeruns, on their way to a 10-0 win over the Gators.

The Aggies will matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm on SEC Network.

Aggie baseball SEC tournament debut delayed

Rain delay forces A&M to wait one more day for their SEC tournament opener.

The Texas A&M baseball team clinched the SEC West regular season championship when they won two out of three against the Ole Miss Rebels. Their regular season performance earned them a first round bye in the Southeastern conference tournament, and when the Florida Gators beat the South Carolina Gamecocks 2-1 in the first round on Tuesday, it set up the Aggies matchup with the Gators in the second round.

The matchup was originally scheduled to take place Wednesday evening, but with inclement weather rolling through Hoover, Alabama, the site of the tournament, the game was delayed to Thursday morning at 9:30 am CT.

Micah Dallas is the likely starting pitcher for the Aggies as  he was scheduled to be the A&M starting pitcher for the original Wednesday night slot.

The game will be aired on SEC Network,

Aggies baseball completes sweep of Mississippi State

Aggies pull out the brooms, sweep Mississippi State

The Texas A&M baseball team came into their penultimate regular season SEC series on a roll. With five consecutive series wins under their belts, and the #10 slot in the national rankings, the Aggies had already announced their presence to the nation as a contender on the diamond.

But they saved their best performance for their home conference finale, a weekend tilt at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park with the defending national champion Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The weekend started with what has become the Aggies’ specialty of late, a comeback win capped off by a Troy Claunch bases loaded double  in the bottom of the 7th inning to put A&M out in front 8-7, a lead they wouldn’t squander.

On Saturday, the story was similar, A&M fell behind 4-0 in the top of the third, but Dylan Rock homered in the bottom half of the inning, and Trevor Warner hit a bob of his own in the 5th to bring the Aggies to within a run. A 7th inning double by Jack Moss put the Aggies up 6-5, and after the Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the 8th, Ryan Targac knocked a two-bagger of his own to give the home team a 7-6 lead, and the Aggies clinched the series with a 9-6 come from behind win.

And on Sunday, with a chance to clinch their first SEC series sweep since 2019, the Aggies put together the most complete performance of the weekend. Offensively, it was the usual suspects who put the Aggies out in front, as Claunch, Targac, and Werner, with some help from right fielder Brett Minnich, put together a 4th inning rally to put A&M ahead 3-1. By the 7th inning, it was 6-1 Aggies, but the Bulldogs strung together two hits, and a walk to make it 6-2 with two men on base with cleanup hitter Hunter Hines at the plate.

That was when coach Jim Schlossnagle called on sophomore Will Johnston out of the bullpen, and Johnston slammed the door shut on any hopes the Bulldogs had, striking out 5 of the 7 batters he faced without allowing a single baserunner to close the game out, and clinch the sweep.

The sweep moves the Aggies to 33-16 on the year, and 17-10 in conference play, and they will finish their regular season schedule with a three-game series against Ole Miss as the attempt to win the SEC West, and position themselves for a deep post-season run.

Aggie baseball wins 5th straight SEC series

Aggies baseball takes two of three from South Carolina, winning a 5th consecutive SEC series.

The Texas A&M baseball team hosted the Gamecocks of South Carolina for a weekend Southeastern Conference tilt at Blue Bell Park, and the fireworks ensued.

The Aggies, looking to extend their hot streak of four consecutive conference series wins, got off to a great start on Friday evening, scoring 16 runs, powered by five long balls. Sophomore Nathan Dettmer wasn’t as sharp on the mound, as in weeks past, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits in only 4.2 innings, but the A&M bats made sure it didn’t matter. Joseph Menefee earned the win, pitching 3.1 innings of 2 hit, 1 run ball, as the Aggies took Game 1 by a score of 16-4.

Saturday afternoon got off to a rougher start, as the Gamecocks jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 4 innings, but the Aggies came roaring back, scoring 5 in the 5th including a Ryan Targac grand slam. After scoring one more in the 7th, the Aggies plated 5 more in the 8th to take a 1 run lead going into the 9th.

A Braylon Wimmer home run and an Aggie throwing error put South Carolina back in front 12-11 going into the bottom half of the ninth, where it was Brett Minnich’s turn to play the hero, with his walk-off two-run homerun, giving the Aggies a 13-12 comeback win, and providing an opportunity to secure a sweep on Sunday afternoon.

The sweep effort came up short as the Gamecocks scored 9 runs on homeruns by 5 different players, and held the Aggies to only 4 runs to take the series finale and avoid being swept out of College Station. But the Aggies had clinched their 5th consecutive conference series win with only a matter of weeks until the end of the regular season.

Texas A&M baseball vs. South Carolina: Series preview

Texas A&M baseball vs. South Carolina: Series preview

The Texas A&M baseball team has been red hot as of late, winning 12 out of their last 16 games, 4 straight SEC series against 3 ranked opponents, and 5 straight non-conference matchups against 3 ranked opponents, leading to a respectful #13 national ranking.

The Aggies now have a chance to continue the momentum with a weekend series matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks at Olson field in College Station, Texas.

After a recent series win last weekend against the then Top 25 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores after securing 2 out of 3 games, the Aggies returned to Olson on Wednesday to face the UT Arlington Mavericks, securing a 10-5 comeback win while sporting a uniform blackout, which seemed to help create some Olson magic late into the evening.

Texas A&M has not faced the Gamecocks yet this season, With South Carolina currently holding a 22-20 overall record, with a 9-12 record in SEC play. While the Gamecocks have been a tough opponent at their home field, Founders Park in which they hold an 18-9 record, their road record speaks otherwise, standing at an abysmal 2-10 record.

Texas A&M (28-15, 12-9) is tied for 2nd in the SEC with fellow 12-9 LSU and 12-9 Auburn, only trailing the #4 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks, who stand at 14-7 in the division.

With a series win this weekend, the Aggies have a chance to take control of the second place, or potentially tie or overtake Arkansas depending on their series outcome.

Aggies Baseball continues hot streak

The Aggies baseball team continues their hot streak, takes down UT-Arlington 10-5

The Texas A&M baseball team is on a roll. Coming into Tuesday, they’d won 4 straight Southeastern Conference series, (3 against top 25 teams), and 5 straight non-conference games (3 against top 25 teams), which catapulted the Aggies up to #13 in the national rankings.

On Tuesday night, the University of Texas-Arlington Mavericks made the journey to College Station to take on the Aggies in a mid-week non-conference tilt.

The Aggies took an early one run lead in the bottom half of the first inning when Austin Bost grounded into a fielders choice that scored Kole Kaler, and then extended the lead to 2-0 when Trevor Werner scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Thompson.

The Mavericks plated three in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to take a 4-2 lead, before the Aggies answered in the bottom half of the 5th. Dylan Rock got them started with a solo homerun, and two singles, and some help from the Mavericks in the form of a wild pitch, a walk, and a throwing error pushed two more runs across, putting the Aggies back up 5-4 after 5 innings.

The Mavericks pulled even in the top of the 6th, but it was their last gasp, as the Aggies would rally in the bottom of the frame, as Rock and Bost each hit two run doubles, and Werner hit a sacrifice fly to score Jack Moss.

The 10-5 lead held, and the Aggies picked up yet another victory, moving to 28-15 on the season.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will make the trip to Blue Bell Park for a weekend series as the Aggies continue their extended homestand and their charge up the SEC standings.

Aggie’s starting pitcher Micah Dallas enters the NFT game

Aggie’s starting pitcher Micah Dallas enters the NFT game

Texas A&M starting pitcher Micah Dallas, the man who alongside pitcher Nathan Dettmer has helped lead the now #13 ranked Aggies to a 27-15 record, has introduced his first NFT in an interview with TexAgs Radio on Monday. Dallas began explaining his reasoning behind the NFT announcement, stating “I dropped an NFT. The first one will be free, and we just wanted to give back to the community and the 12th man for all the support you have given me.” he also noted that a purchase of his NFT will come with some added benefits, like a chance to win free tickets to an upcoming match up with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Before some of you read this with a confused face like we’re speaking another language, let me first define what an NFT actually is: “An NFT is a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, in-game items, and videos. They are bought and sold online, frequently with cryptocurrency, and they are generally encoded with the same underlying software as many cryptos.”

Yes, an NFT is just a digital representation of something, and from a sports perspective, it’s like a digital trading card of a player portraying their name, image, and likeness (NIL), which Micah defined during the interview as “It’s essentially an online trading card. There’s a community of people who love it.”

Micah Dallas started his career at Texas Tech and was recognized multiple times for his achievements on the mound, including being a part of the 2019 Big 12 All-Freshman Team. After Transferring to Texas A&M for the 2022 season, Micah has been a consistent and reliable presence in the starting lineup and holds a 5.49 ERA, 68 strikeout line, and a 4-3 record.

Aggie baseball continues hot streak with series win over Vanderbilt

Aggie baseball continues hot streak with series win over Vanderbilt

The 21st ranked Aggie baseball team traveled to Nashville this weekend for an important three game South Eastern Conference tilt with #22 Vanderbilt.

Nathan Dettmer took the bump for the Aggies on Thursday in his typical game 1 slot, and he continued his dominant streak, tossing 7 innings, of 1 run ball, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 6. Jacob Palisch gave up 3 hits but held the Commadores scoreless in his 2 innings of relief. Offensively Kole Kaler had a first inning solo home run, and the Ags small balled their way to 4 more runs, totaling 7 hits and drawing 7 walks, on their way to a 5-1 series opening win.

In game 2, the Commadores offense went off, scoring 7 runs in the first 4 innings, and didn’t get slow down, as they ran away with an 11-1 win to tie the series.

The Aggies answered with an offensive explosion of their own on Saturday, led by Ryan Targac’s 2 homeruns and 6 total RBI, while Moo Menefee pulled a clutch relief performance, tossing 5.1 innings of 2 hit, 1 run ball, on the way to a 12-4 A&M victory in the rubber match.

Aggie baseball takes down #3 Arkansas

Aggies baseball takes down the #3 Razorbacks

The Texas A&M baseball team faced off with the the #3 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend in a key Southeastern Conference tilt in College Station. The series represented an important opportunity for the Aggies to continue their recent momentum, and pull closer to the Hogs in the SEC West standings.

The Aggies took game one of the series 2-1 as Nathan Dettmer followed up his stellar outing against Georgia, with another strong performance, striking out 7 while giving up only 3 hits and 1 run in 5 innings on Friday night. Dettmer was relieved by Jacob Palisch, who struck out 7 of his own over 4 innings.

Saturday’s game didn’t go A&M’s way, as they mustered only a single 4th inning run after the Razorbacks scored in each of the first three innings, and the Aggies fell 3-1.

The excitement came in Sunday’s rubber match up, as Aggies designated hitter Austin Bost, and First baseman Jack Moss combined for 7 hits and 7 RBI. The Aggies jumped out to a 7-0 lead, before the Hogs battled back, pulling to within a single run in the top of the 8th inning. But it was Palisch again who was called on to slam the door shut, and although he surrendered a two-run double to his first batter, he proceeded to retire 6 in a row to end the game and secure the series win for the Aggies.

The Aggies are now 25-14 overall, and 10-8 in SEC play, tied with LSU for 3rd in the SEC West.
