Aggie Basketball’s Henry Coleman III and Jada Malone will represent Texas A&M at the SEC Basketball Leadership Council

Coleman and Malone will once again represent the Aggies at the SEC Basketball Leadership Council, which serves as a forum of discussion on the student-athlete experience.

Two Texas A&M basketball student-athletes received a distinguished honor late Thursday afternoon. Men’s basketball’s Henry Coleman III and Women’s Basketball’s Jada Malone were named as representatives at the SEC Basketball Leadership Council.

The Council is for student-athletes to serve as a catalyst for student-athletes to communicate from their teams to the SEC office on issues related to the student-athlete experience and wellness while also giving feedback on proposed rules about the SEC and the NCAA.

The agenda includes a conversation with SEC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Katie O’Neal and a presentation from guest speaker Michael Haddix. The student-athletes will also be able to converse and engage with conference staff.

This year’s Council marks a return for both Coleman and Malone, who also represented Texas A&M last year. The council will once again meet at the SEC’s offices in Birmingham, Alabama.

Texas A&M men’s basketball goes undefeated in Bahamas tour

Texas A&M men’s basketball went 3-0 during their Bahamas tour, fending off Raw Talent Elite, BC Zalgiris Kaunas, and the Puerto Rican national team.

Texas A&M men’s basketball wrapped up a one-week tour in the Bahamas that saw the Aggies go undefeated in a three-game stretch against international competition.

Raw Talent Elite, BC Zalgiris Kaunas, and the Puerto Rican national team all faced Texas A&M over the last week, providing some much-welcomed experience for an Aggies team with heightened expectations heading into next season. The next time we’ll see Aggie basketball on the hardwood will be in their season opener against Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 10 at Reed Arena.

Here’s a breakdown of how the Aggies fared throughout their three games in the Bahamas tour.

Exhibition Game 1: Texas A&M (100), Raw Talent Elite (49)

The Maroon and White made easy work of the Bahamas club thanks to a well-rounded performance from both returning Aggies, as well as some new faces to the program. Solomon Washington (17 points), transfer Eli Lawrence (13 points), Andersson Garcia (12 points), Tyrece Radford (12 points), Hayden Hefner (12 points), and Henry Coleman III (10 points) all finished in double-digit figures.

Washington earned the game ball for his perfect shooting performance (7-for-7) from the field, while adding nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Lawrence highlighted how his two-way ability will be invaluable to the Aggies this season, as he finished with a game-high four steals on the defensive end.

Exhibition Game 2: Texas A&M (89), BC Zalgiris Kaunas (59)

If the offense took center stage in the Aggies’ first exhibition game, it was all about defense in game two. Texas A&M stifled BC Zalgiris Kaunas en route to forcing 26 turnovers and 17 steals. Of those takeaways, Washington forced seven by his lonesome with a stellar defensive effort.

Wade Taylor IV (15 points, 4-for-6 3PT), Radford (15 points, 2-for-3 3PT), and Julius Marble (12 points) led the Maroon and White in scoring.

Exhibition Game 3: Texas A&M (83), Puerto Rico National Team (70)

The Maroon and White saved the best for last when it came to competition in the Bahamas tour, as the Puerto Rican national team made the Aggies work for every basket in their head-to-head. In the end, Texas A&M prevailed with an 83-70 win in the team’s best battle of the tour. While holding a close 58-51 lead heading into the fourth, the Aggies leveraged a 13-3 run to propel them to victory and remain undefeated during the three-game stretch.

Four A&M players in Taylor (14 points, 4-for-8 3PT), Marble (14 points), Hefner (13 points, 3-for-5 3PT), and Manny Obaseki (11 points) finished in double-figures. Garcia chipped in with a near double-double with eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

‘National championship and Buzz Williams Coach of the Year’: Ernie Johnson hypes up Aggie Basketball at charity event

After throwing the first pitch in Friday’s softball charity game, TNT’s Ernie Johnson predicted Texas A&M basketball to win a national title in 2023, alongside Buzz Williams winning Coach of the Year.

The college basketball season is still months away for Texas A&M, but they’ve already been given a stamp of approval from one highly respected individual.

NBA on TNT host and sports broadcasting legend Ernie Johnson was honored to throw the first pitch to Aggie hoops coach Buzz Williams at the Buzz’s Bunch charity softball game Friday, which took place at Davis Diamond in College Station. Williams established Buzz’s Bunch in 2008 to help children with special needs come together socially through basketball.

Friday’s game was the charity’s first softball exhibition and was hosted by the Aggie men’s basketball team. While the competition was all in good fun for a great cause, as all proceeds from the event benefit Buzz’s Bunch, the final score illustrated how the players’ team put on a show, dominating with a 21-9 victory over the coaches’ squad.

During the event, Johnson, who is a close friend of Williams, echoed his confidence in the men’s basketball team by emphatically sharing his expectations for the 2023-24 season:

“Undefeated season, national championship, and Buzz Williams Coach of the Year.”

Though no one has proven to have the ability of clairvoyance, we here at Aggies Wire absolutely love the energy and confidence that Johnson is bestowing on the men’s basketball team. Of course, there is plenty of work ahead for this squad to reach its full potential. But as Williams himself noted, the expectation is to win an SEC title and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Following the event, Johnson expressed his gratitude for being able to speak to Texas A&M’s football team as well as seeing his good friend Coach Buzz once more, highlighting a memorable night in Aggieland.

While it’s no secret that Johnson is a Georgia Bulldog by heart, we can make an exception in appreciating all the support and confidence he’s bestowed on the men’s basketball team. One thing is for certain, Aggie hoops have one of the most respected sports personalities and an even greater human being in their corner when they kick off the 2023-24 season in the fall.
