‘National championship and Buzz Williams Coach of the Year’: Ernie Johnson hypes up Aggie Basketball at charity event

After throwing the first pitch in Friday’s softball charity game, TNT’s Ernie Johnson predicted Texas A&M basketball to win a national title in 2023, alongside Buzz Williams winning Coach of the Year.

The college basketball season is still months away for Texas A&M, but they’ve already been given a stamp of approval from one highly respected individual.

NBA on TNT host and sports broadcasting legend Ernie Johnson was honored to throw the first pitch to Aggie hoops coach Buzz Williams at the Buzz’s Bunch charity softball game Friday, which took place at Davis Diamond in College Station. Williams established Buzz’s Bunch in 2008 to help children with special needs come together socially through basketball.

Friday’s game was the charity’s first softball exhibition and was hosted by the Aggie men’s basketball team. While the competition was all in good fun for a great cause, as all proceeds from the event benefit Buzz’s Bunch, the final score illustrated how the players’ team put on a show, dominating with a 21-9 victory over the coaches’ squad.

During the event, Johnson, who is a close friend of Williams, echoed his confidence in the men’s basketball team by emphatically sharing his expectations for the 2023-24 season:

“Undefeated season, national championship, and Buzz Williams Coach of the Year.”

Though no one has proven to have the ability of clairvoyance, we here at Aggies Wire absolutely love the energy and confidence that Johnson is bestowing on the men’s basketball team. Of course, there is plenty of work ahead for this squad to reach its full potential. But as Williams himself noted, the expectation is to win an SEC title and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Following the event, Johnson expressed his gratitude for being able to speak to Texas A&M’s football team as well as seeing his good friend Coach Buzz once more, highlighting a memorable night in Aggieland.

While it’s no secret that Johnson is a Georgia Bulldog by heart, we can make an exception in appreciating all the support and confidence he’s bestowed on the men’s basketball team. One thing is for certain, Aggie hoops have one of the most respected sports personalities and an even greater human being in their corner when they kick off the 2023-24 season in the fall.
