Texas A&M Basketball remains steady in newest NET Rankings

Texas A&M Is on the brink of earning an NCAA Tournament bid ahead of facing Ole Miss to end the regular season.

Texas A&M (17-13, 8-9 SEC) is finally back in contention for an NCAA Tournament bid amid a two-game winning streak after recently defeating Mississippi State 75-69 on Wednesday night.

Finally, after ending a miserable five-game losing streak last Saturday against the Georiga Bulldogs, the Aggies have returned to their defensive identity, forcing turnovers while capitalizing on transition scoring opportunities to avoid stagnant possessions at the top of the key.

Amid Wade Taylor IV’s offensive struggles, veteran guard Tyrece Radford has once again stepped up, scoring 34 points in the last two games. However, it’s been the consistent play of junior guard Manny Obaseki and sophomore forward Solomon Washington, as both combined for 32 points in Wednesday’s victory.

So, where do the Aggies sit in the Tournament conversation? According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, A&M is still on the outside looking in, but in the newest NET rankings, the Aggies are in a good position at No. 49 with six Quad 1 wins and a 10-9 Quad 1 and Quad 2 cumulative record.

If the Aggies can pull out a road win against the Rebels on Saturday, a win or two in the SEC Tournament should solidify a spot in the Big Dance.

Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M’s home finale vs. Mississippi State

Buzz Williams provides several updates, including Henry Coleman III’s health during Tuesday’s press conference

Last Saturday, Texas A&M finally ended its miserable five-game losing streak, defeating Georgia on the road 70-56 behind veteran guard Tyrece Radford’s double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds), as head coach Buzz Williams’ squad finally looked like themselves.

Ahead of Wednesday’s regular season home finale vs. Mississippi State, Williams spoke to the local media to preview the matchup, heaping praise on transfer guard Jace Carter’s continued toughness through adversity. In contrast, start guard Wade Taylor, who scored a season-low 4 points against the Bulldogs, looks to get right in the final two games before the SEC Tournament.

Wednesday night will also be senior night for several starters, including Radford and forward Andersson Garcia. Garcia’s NBA potential has skyrocketed after he put together one of the better rebounding seasons in program history.

When TexAgs columnist Olin Buchanan asked if the team felt “rejuvenated” after the victory, Williams felt that “relieved” was a more accurate emotion.

“I think relieved. I thought we played with alot of good fight on Wednesday against a really good team, and I thought we had that same togetherness and connectiveness on Saturday. We were much better defensively, that helped us; they only shot six free throws, defended without fouling an kept the ball in front of us.”

Williams continued to elaborate on the team’s improvement at the free throw line and the things they do well: rebounding and driving toward the basket. Whether the Aggies still have a legitimate chance to make the NCAA Tournament if the wins continue to stack up to end the year starts with getting the job done against the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

NOTE: Buzz Williams also noted that senior forward Henry Coleman III, who missed last Saturday’s, will be unavailable on Wednesday.

Five takeaways from Texas A&M Basketball’s 70-56 win over Georgia

Do the Aggies have enough left in the tank to make a run towards the NCAA Tournament?

Texas A&M’s (16-13, 7-9 SEC) five-game losing streak ended on Saturday night, defeating the Georgia Bulldogs on the road 70-56 behind veteran guard Tyrece Radford’s 20 points and ten rebounds. With two tough matchups against Mississippi State and Ole Miss to end the regular season, there’s absolutely no more room for error.

It may seem ludicrous that the Aggies still have a chance at the NCAA Tournament. Still, the program’s five Quad 1 wins coupled with a high-ranking strength of schedule keeps them in the running, while finally earning a win after more than two weeks has to be mentally encouraging going forward.

Credit where credit is due to Radford and reserve guard Manny Obaseki (12 points, five rebounds) for taking over the offensive production, while fearless forward and Dennis Rodman twin Andersson Garcia netted another double-double with 11 points and ten boards, all while star guard Wade Taylor IV stored just four points for his lowest output on the year.

While the team returned to attacking the basket, A&M’s 3-point shooting remains an issue, shooting just 26.7% percent with 30 attempts. This is who they are, but at least Saturday’s performance showed a team inching back to their early SEC play identity heading into the final stretch.

Here are five takeaways from Texas A&M’s 70-56 win over Georiga.

Everything Buzz Williams had to say after Texas A&M’s road win vs. Georgia

Head coach Buzz Williams speaks after Texas A&M’s 70-56 over the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night

Finally! Texas A&M’s (16-13, 7-9 SEC) miserable five-game losing streak has come to an end, defeating the Georgia Bulldogs on the road 70-56 behind veteran guard Tyrece Radford’s 20 points and ten rebounds, as the Aggies look to finish out the regular season on a high note.

Whether it was being blown out of the building or losing on the final possession, this team has dealt with every sort of adverse outcome in the last two weeks, yet due to their impressive five Quad 1 wins, head coach Buzz Williams’s tenacious squad is somehow still on the NCAA Tournament bubble, barely.

During the losing streak, star guard Wade Taylor IV had struggled, which continued against the Bulldogs, scoring a season-low 4 points. However, credit to Radford and reserve guard Manny Obaseki (12 points, five rebounds) for taking over the offensive production, while fearless forward and Dennis Rodman twin Andersson Garcia netted another double-double with 11 points and ten boards.

Smiling from ear to ear after the win, Radford noted the past Texas A&M late-season surges after similar losing streaks. At the same time, Buzz Williams took the podium with thankfulness regarding his players’ effort despite dealing with overwhelming adversity and doubt from the fan base.
