For the first time in nearly a month, the Aggies have won back-to-back SEC games following a 75-69 win vs. Mississippi State on Wednesday.

For the first time in nearly a month, the Texas A&M men’s basketball team has won back-to-back games in conference play.

The Aggies (17-13, 8-9 SEC) defeated Mississippi State (19-11, 8-9) by a final score of 75-69 on Wednesday night at Reed Arena in College Station. Texas A&M outscored the Bulldogs 45-32 in the first 20 minutes of action to take a controlling lead into halftime.

Aggies junior guard Manny Obaseki tallied a team-high, scoring 17 points on 6-of-12 field goal attempts, 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Sophomore forward Solomon Washington nearly recorded a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Wednesday’s home finale follows Saturday’s double-digit road triumph at Georgia this past weekend, which snapped a five-game losing streak. Texas A&M is on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament with the SEC Tournament beginning next week.

The Aggies conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion in Oxford, Mississippi against Ole Miss. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M’s home finale vs. Mississippi State

Buzz Williams provides several updates, including Henry Coleman III’s health during Tuesday’s press conference

Last Saturday, Texas A&M finally ended its miserable five-game losing streak, defeating Georgia on the road 70-56 behind veteran guard Tyrece Radford’s double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds), as head coach Buzz Williams’ squad finally looked like themselves.

Ahead of Wednesday’s regular season home finale vs. Mississippi State, Williams spoke to the local media to preview the matchup, heaping praise on transfer guard Jace Carter’s continued toughness through adversity. In contrast, start guard Wade Taylor, who scored a season-low 4 points against the Bulldogs, looks to get right in the final two games before the SEC Tournament.

Wednesday night will also be senior night for several starters, including Radford and forward Andersson Garcia. Garcia’s NBA potential has skyrocketed after he put together one of the better rebounding seasons in program history.

When TexAgs columnist Olin Buchanan asked if the team felt “rejuvenated” after the victory, Williams felt that “relieved” was a more accurate emotion.

“I think relieved. I thought we played with alot of good fight on Wednesday against a really good team, and I thought we had that same togetherness and connectiveness on Saturday. We were much better defensively, that helped us; they only shot six free throws, defended without fouling an kept the ball in front of us.”

Williams continued to elaborate on the team’s improvement at the free throw line and the things they do well: rebounding and driving toward the basket. Whether the Aggies still have a legitimate chance to make the NCAA Tournament if the wins continue to stack up to end the year starts with getting the job done against the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

NOTE: Buzz Williams also noted that senior forward Henry Coleman III, who missed last Saturday’s, will be unavailable on Wednesday.

Alabama blows out Mississippi State at home 99-67

Alabama men’s basketball had no problem taking down Mississippi State at home.

Though Alabama started a bit slow, the Crimson Tide ultimately played an excellent two halves of basketball and got the dominant win over Mississippi State with a final score of 99-67.

The Crimson Tide got into foul trouble very early in the second half, with head coach Nate Oats also playing a role in that. However, it didn’t really matter all too much how often Mississippi State got to the line because it never made much of a dent in Alabama’s lead.

In typical fashion, Mark Sears led the Tide in scoring with a total of 21 points. Roll Tide Wire will share a full Box Score Breakdown with analysis.

Next up for Alabama is a short road trip to the eastern side of the state. The Crimson Tide and Auburn will rematch after Alabama won the first meeting between the two in Tuscaloosa just a few weeks ago.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as the season progresses.
