Texas A&M’s pitching staff has been elite during the College World Series

Texas A&M’s team ERA is utterly mind-boggling ahead of facing Tennessee in the College World Series Finals

Texas A&M (52-13) is on its way to the College World Series finals, largely thanks to Justin Lamkin’s outstanding performance. The sophomore’s pitching gem, with 70 pitches in five nearly flawless innings, set a new CWS record with nine strikeouts and allowed just three hits, leading the team to a 6-0 victory over Florida on Wednesday night.

On the offensive front, the Aggies demonstrated their prowess at the plate. Junior Kaeden Kent continued his impressive postseason run with two more hits and an RBI. SEC Freshman of the Year Gavin Grahovac also made his mark with two hits and an RBI, contributing to the team’s total of six hits.

Freshman Caden Sorrell’s 6th inning homer off of star Gators closer Brandon Neely blew the game wide open, scoring two more runs before sending Florida back to Gainesville after a very impressive and admirable run.

However, it was Texas A&M’s elite pitching that sent the program to its first appearance in the title game, going 8-0 since the start of the postseason. Since reaching Omaha, the Aggies have dominated on the mound, allowing an incredible 1.00 ERA in 27 innings paired with 37 strikeouts in three wins over Florida and Kentucky.

First-year pitching coach Max Weiner deserves a lot of credit for turning things around. The Aggies have now set a program record with 680 strikeouts on the year and turned a weakness in 2023 into a predominant strength.

On paper, Tennessee is as good as it gets from an opponent’s standpoint, hitting .311 at the plate with 178 home runs and a 3.87-team ERA on the year. The best teams have made it to the final round, and we’re in for one heck of a finish.

Texas A&M will play Tennessee in Game 1 of the College World Series Finals on Saturday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN.

How to watch Texas A&M vs. Tennessee in the College World Series finals

Texas A&M vs. Tennessee in the College World Series Finals will begin on Saturday night

The stage is set for the College World Series Finals, as Texas A&M will take on the top-seed Tennessee Volunteers for a chance to take home the trophy, which would be a first-time accomplishment for both programs.

On Wednesday, Tennessee showcased its dominance, overpowering Florida State with a 7-2 victory. Meanwhile, in a display of sheer skill, the Aggies defeated a red-hot Florida team 6-0, led by the exceptional performance of starting pitcher Justin Lamkin.

After scoring 15 runs in the earlier afternoon victory over Kentucky, Florida’s bats completely fizzled with just four hits on the night, as star hitter Jac Caglianone was the only player to record multiple hits on the night.

Using just five pitchers to close things out, Lamkin’s CWS record of nine strikeouts paved the way for 14 Ks on the night. Josh Stewart and Evan Aschenbeck closed things in the usual fashion with five strikeouts. The Aggies have lived first-year pitching coach Max Weiner’s “control the zone” manta throughout the postseason.

Offensively, sophomore Kaeden Kent, who is currently batting .450 with 10 RBI after star outfielder Braden Montgomery’s season-ending injury, recorded two hits, including an RBI single in the 9th. At the same time, SEC Freshman of the Year Gavin Grahovac notably got his groove back with two hits and an RBI single in the 5th.

However, nothing was bigger than Caden Sorrell’s two-run homer in the top of the 6th, as the freshman phenom destroyed a high fastball from Gators closer Brandon Neely to essentially end the game.

Texas A&M will play Tennessee in Game 1 of the College World Series Finals on Saturday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN and be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Texas A&M vs. Florida in the CWS semifinal start time has changed

Texas A&M’s semifinal matchup vs. Florida in the College World Series will start closer to 7:00 p.m.

Texas A&M’s (51-13) postseason run has been memorable, to say the least. The Aggies have remained undefeated in the College World Series through two games, recently defeating Kentucky 5-1 on Monday night. They will now face Florida in a rematch after the Gators blew out the Wildcats 15-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

There’s been a change in the game schedule. Originally set for 6:00 p.m. CT, the game has now been rescheduled to 6:55 p.m. CT. This adjustment is likely to allow Florida some recovery time, considering their recent game against Tennessee and Florida State that ended just an hour ago.

Today, Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle revealed that starting pitcher Justin Lamkin will be leading the team for the second time against the Gators. Lamkin’s performance in the previous game was outstanding, with the sophomore delivering six strikeouts and allowing only one hit and zero runs in three innings on Saturday night.

While Florida is obviously familiar with Lamkin, Chris Cortez and Evan Aschenbeck are fresh and available to come in to relieve Lamkin when needed.

Note: Star outfielder Jace LaViolette will reportedly return to the lineup at right field tonight.

Texas A&M will play Florida on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:55 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN and be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Jim Schlossnagle announces Texas A&M’s starting pitcher vs. Florida in CWS

Texas A&M will reportedly go with Justin Lamkin against the Florida Gators on Wednesday night

Texas A&M (51-13) will fight for a spot in the College World Series title game on Wednesday night, set to face the red-hot Florida Gators on Wednesday night, just two days after the Aggies defeated Kentucky 5-1 to move on to the semifinal round.

While the Aggies’ offense has been touch-and-go for most of the postseason, the pitching rotation has not disappointed. Ace redshirt sophomore Ryan Prager delivered a memorable performance against the Wildcats, recording 20 outs and four strikeouts while allowing just two hits on the night.

With Prager’s stellar performance, it was a tough decision for head coach Jim Schlossnagle to choose the next pitcher. He held off the announcement until after Florida’s dominant 15-4 win over Kentucky, which secured their spot in the next round against the Aggies.

According to KBTX Sports Anchor Tyler Shaw, it was rereleased that Schlossnagle will hand the ball off to sophomore Justin Lamkin, who started against the Gators on Saturday night, lasting three solid innings while striking out six and allowing just one hit.

While Florida is obviously familiar with Lamkin, Chris Cortez and Evan Aschenbeck are fresh and available to come in to relieve Lamkin when needed.

Note: Star outfielder Jace LaViolette is reportedly 50/50 heading into the game after injuring his hamstring on Monday night.

Texas A&M will play Florida on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:55 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN and be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Game 10 of the College World Series between Florida and Kentucky has been postponed

Either Florida or Kentucky will now endure a double-header ahead of facing Texas A&M due to Tuesday’s postponement

Due to more inclement weather expected in Omaha, Nebraska, Game 10 between Florida and Kentucky will now be postponed until 10:00 a.m. CT. as the winner of the matchup will go on to face Texas A&M in a rematch in the double-elimination round with a chance to play for the national title.

Following the first game, Bracket 1 leader Tennessee’s game against Florida State has been moved to 2:00 p.m. CT., while the Aggie’s 6:00 p.m. start has not been altered at this time.

It’s important to note that the weather could continue to impact the game schedule. If the Florida vs. Kentucky game is further disrupted or goes into extra innings, we could see a later start time for Game 12. As of now, Texas A&M remains in a solid position going into Wednesday.

With this sudden change, the teams coming out of Game 10 unscathed will likely face a challenge in managing their pitching rotation. This could potentially give way to an offensive onslaught for Texas A&M, a team that finally showed a glimmer of their batting prowess in Monday’s 5-1 win over the Wildcats.

Pitching-wise, ace Ryan Prager’s dazzling six-inning performance provides head coach Jim Schlossnagle and pitching coach Max Weiner plenty of options, as Justin Lamkin, Chris Cortez, and closer Evan Aschenbeck are all fresh and ready to take the mound when called upon.

Texas A&M pitching coach Max Weiner is a star in the making

Max Weiner has turned Texas A&M’s pitching staff into one of the best units in the country

Texas A&M (51-13) is just one win away from the College World Series title game after a series of impressive victories, including a 5-1 win over Kentucky (46-15) on Wednesday night. Like most of the Aggies’ wins this postseason, it was the performance on the mound that has kept the team undefeated this week for the first time in program history, a testament to the strategic guidance of the coaching staff.

The Aggies’ offensive firepower took a hit with star outfielder Braden Montgomery’s season-ending ankle injury. The blow was further compounded by the upper-body injury suffered by sophomore pitcher Shane Sdao in A&M’s super regional win over Oregon, which has kept him out for the rest of the postseason.

With the team facing more challenges due to the injuries, the pressure on Jim Schlossnagle to deliver increased. However, the third-year head coach has relied on the expertise of first-year pitching coach Max Weiner, who has proven to be a game-changer and the best hire the program has made during Schlossnagle’s tenure.

With Sdao’s absence, the team needed to rely on fewer arms. The combination of Ryan Prager, Chris Cortez, and senior reliever Evan Aschenbeck has been nothing short of elite.

Each player has vastly improved from last season, with Weiner’s coaching leading to notable adjustments in control, hitting the strike zone, and, most importantly, confidence after every in-game mound visit has eased the mind of every Aggie pitcher to finish out each inning.

On Monday, Prager pitched one of his best career performances, recording 20 outs and four strikeouts while allowing just two hits and one walk on 95 pitches, outright earning the Aggie’s 5-1 victory. While the redshirt sophomore’s improvement has taken center stage after missing last season with an injury, junior Chris Cortez’s ascendance as a top MLB prospect has continued to turn heads.

Entering the season with an elite arm but a blatant lack of control and a tendency for wild pitches, Cortez is now 10-3 on the year. He isn’t lacking any confidence as the Aggies’ go-to relief option, bringing a, yes, nasty quality to his sliders and fastballs that regularly top out at 100 MPH.

For star closer Evan Aschenbeck, the senior was named “Stopper of the Year” with ten saves and a 6-1 record on the season so far, coupled with 76 strikeouts and just ten walks issued, taking full advantage of Weiner’s analytic knowledge during his time with the Seattle Mariners.

Even after a shaky start to the regular season, lefty Justin Lamkin bounced back in a big way during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Florida. The sophomore struck out six batters while allowing just one hit on the night, a testament to Weiner’s late-season adjustments.

Still under 30, Weiner’s “control the zone” mantra has continued to yield results, as Texas A&M baseball’s first national title in program history while building toward his eventual head coaching career. Last but not least, Texas A&M’s team ERA has gone from 5.67 to 3.86 in just one season under Max Weiner.

Texas A&M will play the winner of Florida vs. Kentucky on Wednesday, June 19, at 6:00 p.m. CT.

Jim Schlossnagle provides update on Jace LaViolette’s hamstring tweak

Jace LaViolette’s status moving forward in the College World Series is trending in a positive direction

Texas A&M (51-13) is just one win away from earning a berth in the College World Series title game after defeating Kentucky (46-15), 5-1, on Monday night. The Aggies are undefeated in the CWS for the first time in program history.

Taking the mound after a week off, Aggies ace pitcher Ryan Prager was nearly flawless, lasting six innings while recording 20 outs on 95 pitches for four strikeouts and just two hits and one walk allowed during his start.

After a tense five scoreless innings, A&M’s offense finally sprang to life. The game-changing moment came with Hayden Schott’s RBI double, sending Jace LaViolette and Jackson Appel home. However, during his run to third before Schott’s hit, LaViolette slightly tweaked his hamstring.

Despite the injury, he managed to make his way home before heading to the Aggie bench. This moment not only marked a turning point in the game but also showcased the team’s resilience in the face of adversity.

Surprisingly, the sophomore made one more appearance at the plate but sat the rest of the game to gauge the severity of his injury. However, from his body language alone, LaViolette didn’t look like he was in much pain as the game progressed.

Providing an update after the game, head coach Jim Schlossnagle stated that the star outfielder “pulled his hamstring a little bit” and would be observed further during the Aggies’ rest day on Wednesday.

“We have a little less than 48 hours to see if we can get him to do something on the field.”

If Jace Laviolette is unable to play on Thursday, freshman Jack Bell will likely be reinserted into the starting lineup.

Texas A&M will play the winner of Kentucky vs. Florida on Wednesday, June 19, at 6 p.m. CT.

Jim Schlossnagle announces Texas A&M’s starting pitcher vs. Kentucky in the CWS

Ryan Prager will take the mound against Kentucky on Monday night

Texas A&M (50-13) is off and running in the College World Series after defeating the Florida Gators 3-2 in the early hours of Sunday morning due to inclement weather in Omaha, Nebraska, causing a four-hour delay.

The game, which started at 10:00 p.m. CT, was a thrilling late-night baseball showdown that had the Aggie and Gator fans in attendance on the edge of their seats. If you were a fan of pitching, this was the matchup for you! The Aggies, led by Justin Lamkin, Chris Cortez, and Evan Aschenbeck, delivered an impressive performance, striking out 16 batters and allowing just two runs on the night.

While A&M’s offense only mustered three runs in the second and third innings, Schlossnagle’s strategic move to start Lamkin, who had previously struggled, resulted in the sophomore striking out six with just one allowed in three innings.

While Cortez, who earned his 10th win on the year, threw 61 pitches and will likely not be available for Monday’s matchup vs. Kentucky, Lamkin and star closer Evan Aschenbeck could appear if needed.

On Sunday, Schlossnagle officially announced the inevitable: ace Ryan Prager would take the mound against the Wildcats. Prager will make his first start since being pulled early in the Aggies’ win vs. Oregon in the super regionals. During the year, Prager had 114 strikeouts with a 3.10 ERA.

No. 3 Texas A&M will play the No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats on Monday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN.

Date, time announced for Texas A&M’s College World Series matchup vs. Kentucky

Texas A&M will now take on the Kentucky Wildcats in the College World Series on Monday night

Texas A&M (50-13) has moved on to the second round of the College World Series after defeating the Florida Gators (34-29) 3-2 behind one of the best pitching performances on the season, as Justin Lamkin, Chris Cortez, and Evan Aschenbeck combined for 16 strikeouts with eight hits and two runs allowed.

The team’s unity and collective effort were on full display when star sophomore outfielder Jace Laviolette made what could be considered the catch of the year in the top of the ninth. With just one out and a man on base for the Gators, Laviolette’s catch robbed Cade Kurland’s would-be home run, potentially changing the season’s trajectory. This was a testament to the team’s spirit and could be a game-changer in the upcoming matchups vs. Kentucky.

In a respectable and strategic move, Schlossnagle opted to go with Lamkin over ace pitcher Ryan Prager to save as many arms as possible heading into next week. The sophomore’s six strikeouts in just three innings led to Cortez’s impressive three frames despite allowing the Gators two runs. While Achenbeck struck out four to close things out as usual, the three combined for 158 pitches on the night.

With Prager set to start on Monday, Lamkin and Aschenbeck are expected to be available if needed.

Texas A&M will play 2-seed Kentucky on Monday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN and be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Updated start time for Game 1 of Texas A&M vs. Florida in the CWS

Amid the inclement weather in Omaha, Nebraska, Texas A&M vs. Florida is reportedly resume later tonight

Texas A&M (49-13) has reached the College World Series for the second time in three seasons under head coach Jim Schlossnagle. The Aggies will face a feisty Florida Gators (34-28) team on Saturday night. Both programs last met during the start of SEC play in early mid-March. However, it will now begin much later than anticipated.

Due to rain and a tornado watch in Omaha, Nebraska, the original 6:00 p.m. start time was initially delayed for at least a couple of hours. As the clouds set in and the sky looked dark and ominous, light rain continued, which is presumed to stop around 9:00 p.m. CT.

A new time has officially been announced: the Aggies and Gators will take the field at 10:00 p.m. The anticipation for this game, heightened by the weather delay, is palpable. If the tarp has done its job, the field is expected to be as dry as it can be.

Here is the new broadcast information. We will update you on any changes, including the new starting time.
