Texas A&M baseball freshman third baseman named SEC Freshman of the Year

Gavin Grahovac has been named SEC Freshman of the Year

This week, the SEC Baseball Tournament begins on Tuesday, May 21, as Texas A&M (44-11, 19-11 SEC) received a first-round bye, and will await the winner of 5-seed Mississippi State and 12-seed Ole Miss for a Wednesday night matchup.

The Aggies ended the regular season on a high note by winning their final series against Arkansas. The offense finally woke up in Game 3, earning a much-needed 14-4 run-rule victory on Saturday afternoon, as freshman standout third baseman Gavin Grahovac hit his 19th home run of the year.

While the entire lineup deserves credit for ranking fifth in the country in homers with 121 on the season, Grahovac’s consistent power and shear confidence at such a young age are not just a testament to head coach Jim Schlossnagle but, of course, his dedicated Father, Mike Grahovac.

On Monday, it was announced that after hitting .322 with 19 home runs and 59 RBI, Grahovac was named SEC Freshman of the Year, as he currently sits behind Jace LaViolette (28), and Braden Montgomery (26) in home runs.

On Wednesday, May 22, 4-seed Texas A&M will face the winner of 5-seed Mississippi State vs. 12-seed Ole Miss 30 minutes after the conclusion of 1-seed Tennessee vs. 8-seed Vanderbilt or 9-seed Florida.

No. 4 Texas A&M baseball run-rules No. 2 Arkansas to win final regular season series

Texas A&M’s offense explodes for 14 runs, run-ruling Arkansas 14-4 to win the season series

Entering the weekend, Texas A&M’s (44-11, 19-11 SEC) goal was an SEC West title, which would have come to fruition with a sweep against the division-leading Arkansas Razorbacks (32-12, 20-10 SEC), who were just one win away from securing the crown.

After defeating the visitors in Thursday’s elite pitching duo at Ted Burton’s walk-off walk in the bottom of the 11th inning, Arkansas responded on Friday with a late 6-3 victory to earn what is the last division crown in the SEC as the conference will eliminate the East and West starting next season.

For the Aggies, winning the series was all that mattered now, and the offense responded accordingly, hitting .441, including four home runs and seven walks with only six strikeouts on the afternoon, as Hayden Schott led the day with a 3-3 performance at the plate.

Exploding in the sixth and seventh, Texas A&M netted nine runs as freshman Gavin Grahovic recorded his 19th home run of the year. At the same time, Braden Montgomery’s lead-taking homer early in the game was a good sign heading into postseason play.

On the mound, Shane Sdao was solid for the most part but gave up four runs, three of which came off a game-tying home run in one of his rare starts. In relief, Chris Cortez (8-2) was stellar on the bump, striking out eight. Together with Zane Badmaev, Arkansas failed to score another run after said home run.

To end the game in yet another run rule for the Maroon & White, senior Ryan Tagac, who had moved down the depth chart and had been serving in coaching rule throughout the season, was given the nod to take what could be his final collegiate at-bat, pinch-hitting for Ted Burton in the seventh frame.

Leading 13-4, Targac delivered with an RBI single to left center, as the Aggie, as Blue Bell Park roared his name in the process.

With the win, Texas A&M has solidified a four-seed in the SEC Tournament, which guarantees a first-round bye. Next Wednesday, it will play the winner of the five-vs.-twelve-seed match.

Game 1 of Texas A&M vs. Arkansas will be played on Thursday night

Game 1 of Texas A&M vs. Arkansas will begin at 8:30 p.m CT.

Due to inclement weather in the College Station/Bryan, Texas area, Texas A&M baseball’s Game 1 vs. Arkansas Razorbacks will not be delayed till Friday, as the tarps are off the field, and the Aggies are set to begin play at 8:32 p.m. CT on ESPN 2.

Ranked as the No. 4 team in the country, Texas A&M (42-10, 17-10 SEC) lost its second consecutive SEC series last weekend after falling to the Ole Miss Rebels in the first two games, salvaging the series with a decisive Game 3 6-0 shutout.

Serving as the lone bright spot on the weekend, sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season on Sunday. He set career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors this week. Due to his performance, Sdao has earned a starting spot in Game 2 this weekend.

This series is big for both programs. Arkansas (42-10, 19-8) needs one win to secure the SEC West title, while the Aggies need the sweep to take the top spot.

Texas A&M Baseball’s pitching lineup vs. Arkansas has been announced

Texas A&M’s pitching rotation for the season finale series vs. Arkansas has been announced

Showing remarkable resilience, Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) bounced back on Sunday against the Ole Miss Rebels, delivering a 6-0 shutout win. This victory, just a week after a tough loss to LSU, is a testament to the team’s unwavering spirit.

Wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series, as the Aggies looked confused and borderline uninspired.

However, sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season on Sunday, setting career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process. He deserves most of the credit for the 6-0 victory.

This weekend, the No. 4-ranked Aggies will finish out the regular season against the visiting No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks (42-10, 19-8 SEC), as head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s squad still has a shot at the SEC West title with a sweep this weekend. Ahead of Game 1 on Thursday, here is the starting pitching lineup:

  • Game 1 (Friday): Ryan Prager (8-1, 95 SO, 2.71 ERA)
  • Game 2 (Saturday): TBA
  • Game 3 (Sunday): Shane Sdao (4-1, 46 SO, 2.03 ERA)

Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park to take on Arkansas. Game 1 is set for Thursday, May 16, and will air at 7:00 p.m. CT. on ESPN2.

Texas A&M baseball drops in newest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Texas A&M drops a couple of spots in the newest USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. No. the sky is not falling.

Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) rebounded on Sunday afternoon to once again salvage a disappointing road series vs. Ole Miss, losing the first two games frustratingly just a week after similarly falling to LSU.

After wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series.

However, a bright spot emerged on Sunday afternoon, as sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season, only to set career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process, leading to an impressive shutout 6-0 victory.

Even with the win, Texas A&M’s consistency issues at the plate needed to be mended before taking on the No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks to finish the regular season. Losing four out of their last seven games, the Aggies dropped two spots in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll rankings to No. 5 on Monday afternoon.

Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park to take on Arkansas. Game 1 is set for Thursday, May 16, and will air at 7:00 p.m. CT. on ESPN2.

No. 2 Texas A&M’s pitching lineup vs. Ole Miss has been announced

Texas A&M’s pitching rotation for the Aggies’ final regular season road test vs. Ole Miss

Texas A&M (41-8, 16-8 SEC) rebounded after losing just the second SEC series this season against LSU last weekend, run-ruling the visiting Rice Owls 16-3 to reach a perfect 25-0 in midweek games this season, a feat reached for the first time since 2015.

What plagued the Aggies against the Tigers, outside of their Game 3 blowout win on Sunday, was the collectively poor performance at the plate, especially star outfielder Braden Montgomery’s unusual hitless streak lasting four games is definitely a warning sign that depends on power at the plate to score in bunches.

However, Montgomery steadily rebounded against the Owls, collecting two hits and a home run on the night. At the same time, Jace LaViolette continued his hot-hitting streak, recording his 26th home run of the year. Looking ahead to this weekend’s road test vs. Ole Miss (25-23, 9-15 SEC), head coach Jim Schlossnagle knows that success on the mound is key to keeping the Rebels at bay. On Thursday, Schlossnagle released the starting pitching rotation for this weekend’s series:

  • Game 1 (Friday): Ryan Prager (10-2, 85 SO, 2.67 ERA)
  • Game 2 (Saturday): Justin Lamkin (8-5, 62 SO, 4.74 ERA)
  • Game 3 (Sunday): TBA

Game 1 will air on SEC Network at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Game 2 (4:00 p.m.) and Game 3 (5:00 p.m.) will be available for streaming on SEC Network+.

No. 3 Texas A&M baseball’s series vs. Arkansas will be nationally televised

Texas A&M’s season finale home series vs. Arkansas will be nationally televised!

Texas A&M baseball (40-8, 16-8 SEC) faced a wave of adversity last weekend, losing just their second SEC series on the road to the surging LSU Tigers. However, they managed to avoid the sweep with an emphatic 14-4 Game 3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies are gearing up for some tough battles. They will end the regular season with four out of their last seven games at home, while this weekend’s road test vs. Ole Miss will present a similar challenge to what the Tigers provided, especially on the mound.

However, for those who have had issues streaming A&M’s games recently, it has been revealed that the series finale vs. Arkansas will be nationally televised if fans are unable to attend. On Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 18, the Aggies will look to end the conference slate on a high note before entering the SEC Tournament with a likely first-round bye.

  • Game 1: Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2.
  • Game 2: Friday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. The game will air on SEC Network.

Texas A&M baseball’s pitching rotation vs. LSU has been announced

Texas A&M HC Jim Schlossnagle has announced Texas A&M’s pitching rotation vs. LSU

Texas A&M (39-6, 15-6 SEC) remains undefeated in mid-week games after defeating Tarleton State 10-6 on Tuesday night. Former Michigan second baseman Ted Burton hit his fifth home run in the last four games. In contrast, Jace LaViolette hit his 23rd home run on the season.

Within the victory, the Aggies have now crossed the 100-homerun mark for only the 2nd time in program history, a testament to head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his impressive coaching staff’s work last offseason to both acquire and develop talent at the plate.

The Aggies are in second place in the SEC West standings, just a conference win below the Arkansas Razorbacks. Both programs are tied with 39 wins on the year. This weekend, the Aggies will travel to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers, who have now won two consecutive conference series while simultaneously climbing up the standings to fifth place in the West.

On Thursday, Schlossnagle released the starting pitching rotation for the series, but for a second straight weekend, the Game 3 starter is “to be determined.”

  • Game 1 (Friday): Ryan Prager (10-1, 80 SO, 2.59 ERA)
  • Game 2 (Saturday): Justin Lamkin (8-4, 59 SO, 4.47 ERA)
  • Game 3 (Sunday): TBD

Note: Jim Schlossnagle noted that Tanner Jones (9-1, 34 SO, 6.75 ERA) will likely start Game 3 if called upon.

Game 1 of No. 1-ranked Texas A&M vs. LSU will air on ESPN2/SEC Network on Friday, May 3.

Charlie Condon sets Georgia’s home run record

Georgia baseball’s Charlie Condon sets UGA’s single season, career home run record in win over Texas A&M

Star Georgia Bulldogs first baseman Charlie Condon hit his 29th home run of the season as No. 17 Georgia picked up a massive 5-4 road win over No. 1 Texas A&M. Georgia lost the series to Texas A&M, but went 2-2 against the Aggies and No. 4 Clemson on the week, which is a win for the Dawgs.

Condon’s home run gave him sole possession of Georgia’s single season home run record. It was his 54th career home run, which is most in Georgia history.

Charlie Condon and Georgia lost their first two games to Texas A&M including an embarrassing performance where Georgia allowed the Aggies scored 19 unanswered runs after jumping out to a 9-0 lead over Texas A&M.

Georgia’s win moves the Bulldogs to 31-12 and should help the Bulldogs rise in the college baseball rankings. Here’s a look at Charlie Condon’s record-breaking home run.

Georgia baseball continues to hover around .500 in SEC play, which is good considering how stacked the conference is.

Georgia baseball blows 9-0 lead, loses 19-9 vs. No. 1 Texas A&M

Georgia baseball blows 9-0 lead, allows 19 consecutive runs to No. 1 Texas A&M

No. 17 Georgia baseball picked up a big win over No. 4 Clemson earlier in the week. However, Georgia has already dropped its road series at No. 1 Texas A&M.

Star first baseman Charlie Condon hit home run No. 28 as Georgia jumped out to a 9-0 lead over Texas A&M. Georgia’s lead did not last long as the Aggies scored 19 unanswered runs to clinch the series over Georgia. The Aggies ended the game with the run rule in the seventh inning.

Georgia’s road loss drops the Bulldogs to 30-12 ahead of Saturday’s double header. Georgia will look to salvage one game in the second half of Saturday’s doubleheader against Texas A&M, who defeated Georgia 5-2 on Friday, April 26.
