Texans DE Will Anderson Jr. named NFL Global Flag Football Ambassador

Will Anderson Jr. is more than just a player on the field for the Houston Texans.

Will Anderson Jr. is the epitome of “all-around good guy” for the Houston Texans. It’s why he continues to pick the hardware whenever there’s an opportunity.

The Texans announced Anderson as an NFL Global Flag Football Ambassador. Anderson joins current NFL and flag football players, Legends, coaches and officials who work together to raise the global profile and promote one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

According to the Texans public relations department,  U.S. Women’s National Flag Team star and Texas native Ashlea Klam will also represent the Texans as a Global Flag Football Ambassador. Klam has played flag football since the age of 6 and serves as an inspiration to young girls who strive to represent their country by playing the sport they love.

She was recognized on-field at NRG Stadium during the team’s Week 12 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Anderson remains one of the league’s top pass rushers as his second season comes to a close. While sharing the spotlight with four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Danielle Hunter, the former No. 3 overall pick ranks in the top 10 among all defenders in sacks (9.5), tackles for loss (12.5) and QB hits (31).

The Texans travel to EverBank Stadium to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday at noon CT.

NFL Black Friday schedule: What games are on TV today?

Here’s what you can watch on Black Friday among the Week 13 schedule.

The NFL is starting a new trend this holiday season by giving fans an extra game on Friday afternoon.

Each year, the Thanksgiving festivities begin with food, thanks and joy around the family. Then, everyone says, “forget that,” to watch three football games leading deep into the evening just in time for dessert.

The Detroit Lions survived a scare with the Chicago Bears at Ford Field because of what had to be the worst clock management moment in NFL history. That final drive eventually cost third-year coach Matt Eberflus his job in a 23-20 loss.

The Dallas Cowboys secured bragging rights over the New York Giants behind a 110-yard outing from running back Rico Dowdle. The Giants remain in the hunt for the No. 1 overall pick, while Dallas improved to 5-7 and entered the chat for a potential nine-win season.

Thanksgiving Day wrapped up with the Green Bay Packers improving to 9-3 with a double-digit win over the Miami Dolphins. Jordan Love tossed two touchdown passes while the Phins froze in the first half and couldn’t overcome a three-touchdown lead in the second half.

But “Black Friday” will offer one more matchup with significant AFC Playoff implications on the line as the Kansas City Chiefs (10-1) host the Las Vegas Raiders (2-9) at 2:00 p.m. The Chiefs-Raiders game will be available to stream exclusively on Prime.

Kansas City, which hosts the Houston Texans in Week 16, could clinch a playoff spot with the help of several others over the weekend with a victory at Arrowhead.

New mock draft has the Texans adding a running mate for Joe Mixon

The Texans are building up their running back room in the latest 2025 NFL mock draft heading into Week 13.

If the Houston Texans are going to keep the same offensive approach behind second-year coordinator Bobby Slowik, they’ll have to emphasize the run game.

Joe Mixon, who’s inching closer to becoming the first Texans’ running back since Carlos Hyde in 2019 to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season, remains the workhorse for Houston’s rushing attack. He’s posted four 100-yard outings and continues to be a touchdown machine.

He’s also set to turn 30 next year and might begin to lose steam over the final three years of his new contract. Alleviating pressure off second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud is essential for Houston’s offense to thrive and while Mixon has provided that in 2024, it must carry over into the final three years of his rookie deal.

One mock draft would tend to agree.

In  Daft on Draft’s new mock draft, the Texans bolster their running back room with the selection of Iowa tailback Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 22. A Doak Walker Award finalist, Johnson’s physical north-to-south running approach would be an ideal fit in Slowik’s offense.

Joe Mixon has had a productive season for the Texans this season, but he will be entering his ninth season in 2025. We all know the shelf life of a running back and why a contingency plan is needed. Kaleb Johnson is an excellent scheme fit and gives the Texans that plan for life after Mixon.

In his first year as the Hawkeyes’ top runner, Johnson’s productivity has carried Iowa toward another potential eight-win season. Not only does he lead the Big Ten in rushing yards (1,492), but he also leads the conference in yards per attempt (6.7), rushing touchdowns (21) and carries (223).

The junior has also rushed for 100-plus yards in eight of his 11 appearances this year. He’s considered by multiple analysts as the No. 2 running back prospect behind Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, who landed with the Dallas Cowboys with the 11th overall pick.

The Texans must build a new offensive line to protect Stroud, but that’s where free agency could factor in. Adding a cost-friendly running back on a potential five-year deal might benefit Houston tenfold should Johnson eventually surpass Mixon as the long-term RB1 in Houston.

Former Texans starter back in Houston in practice squad

Andrew Beck is back with the Houston Texans just in time to recreate his 85-yard kickoff return against the Jaguars.

Andrew Beck made special teams history last season when the Houston Texans traveled down to EverBank Stadium to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He now has a chance to do it again.

According to the team’s transaction wire, the Texans recently added Back to the practice squad. The former starting fullback could be elevated for three games from now until Week 16 before Houston would have to add him to the active roster.

Beck, who joined Houston last offseason after starting his career with the Denver Broncos, was expected to make the active 53-man roster before a calf injury limited him throughout most of the preseason. He was released and signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad.

The Packers released him earlier this week, thus letting him join the Texans.

Last season, Beck finished with 11 catches for 55 yards and two touchdown receptions. He also rushed for five yards on three carries and a score.

Beck is perhaps best known for his epic 85-yard kick return for a touchdown against the Jaguars in Week 3. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, he hit 20.3 MPH on the play.

The last fullback with a kick return touchdown was Jaguars’ Derrick Wimbush in 2005.

Houston travels back to Duval County this weekend for an AFC South showdown. Was Beck added for perhaps a good luck charm?

Texans bring back former training camp star to active roster

Myles Bryant is back on the Houston Texans’ active roster.

With Jalen Pitre expected to miss several games, the Houston Texans need a backup plan for Jimmie Ward at the nickel position.

Entering Friday’s practice, Myles Bryant seems to be the front-runner for slot cornerback No. 2.

The Texans promoted Bryant to the active 53-man roster from the practice squad, the team announced Thursday morning. The move was expected with Pitre out indefinitely with a partially torn pectoral muscle.

Ward, who previously played in the slot for two seasons on Texans coach DeMeco Ryans in San Francisco, is expected to start next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. If all goes according to plan, Bryant will serve as the No. 2 option.

The former New England Patriots starter and training camp breakout star also should replace Ka’dar Hollman on special teams after the veteran cornerback suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Sunday’s loss against the Tennessee Titans.

After agreeing to terms on a one-year deal this offseason, Bryant made a big impression on the Texans coaching staff and personnel department during training camp. He initially made the Texans’ active roster after cutdowns and even saw action in several games.

Houston elected to release Bryant once Jeff Okudah was healthy enough to return. After he cleared waivers, the Texans brought him back to the practice squad.

For his NFL career, Bryant has totaled 200 tackles, two sacks, nine tackles for losses, four interceptions, 17 pass deflections, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

The Texans hit the road to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13 for a shot to extend their seven-game winning streak against divisional opponents on the road. With a win, Houston would secure a 4-1 record in the AFC South play before the Bye Week.

Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is scheduled for noon CT.

All 32 NFL quarterbacks (including C.J. Stroud) ranked by Total QBR

Here’s where Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud stacks up among other passers in QBR entering Week 13.

Houston Texans second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud posted a Total QBR rating of 23.7 in the team’s 32-27 loss against the Tennessee Titans in Week 12. That performance knocked his season-long Total QBR average to 51.3.

That’s a slight decline from last week’s rating (52.2),  which is why Stroud’s ranking among QBs (No. 24) dropped three spots from last week (No. 21).

Stroud’s traditional passer rating this season is 87.3, which ranks 25th.

Unlike a traditional passer rating, the Total QBR “incorporates all of a quarterback’s contributions to winning, including how he impacts the game on passes, rushes, turnovers and penalties,” according to ESPN.

The metric takes into account scenarios that a traditional passer rating overlooks and considers “a team’s level of success or failure on every play to provide the proper context and then allocates credit to the quarterback and his teammate to produce a clearer measure of quarterback efficiency.”

With that context in mind, here’s a look at how Stroud stacks up against the NFL’s other starting quarterbacks entering Thanksgiving weekend

NFL QBs ranked by Total QBR after Week 12

  1. Lamar Jackson: 75.9
  2. Joe Burrow: 75.6
  3. Josh Allen: 73.2
  4. Kyler Murray: 72.5
  5. Brock Purdy: 67.6
  6. Patrick Mahomes: 66.8
  7. Jameis Winston: 66.7
  8. Jayden Daniels: 66.5
  9. Jalen Hurts: 63.7
  10. Matthew Stafford: 62.4
  11. Trevor Lawrence: 61.8
  12. Derek Carr: 61.7
  13. Tua Tagovailoa: 60.0
  14. Sam Darnold: 59.4
  15. Baker Mayfield: 59.3
  16. Jordan Love: 58.4
  17. Justin Herbert: 58.1
  18. Jared Goff: 57.1
  19. Drake Maye: 57.7
  20. Kirk Cousins: 56.8
  21. Bo Nix: 55.9
  22. Geno Smith: 54.6
  23. Aaron Rodgers: 51.4
  24. C.J. Stroud: 51.3
  25. Russell Wilson: 50.1
  26. Caleb Williams: 48.9
  27. Aidan O’Connell: 47.3
  28. Anthony Richardson: 45.9
  29. Will Levis: 36.4
  30. Bryce Young: 35.8
  31. Cooper Rush: 33.2
  32. Drew Lock: 9.3

Stroud will look to improve his Total QBR rating when the Texans travel east to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in a battle of AFC South foes this Sunday at noon CT.

Is Trevor Lawrence playing against Texans? Injury update on Jacksonville Jaguars QB’s shoulder

Trevor Lawrence is dealing with a left shoulder injury heading into Week 13’s matchup against the Houston Texans.

The Houston Texans will be down a vital member of their defense after defensive back Jalen Pitre suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday’s 32-27 loss against the Tennessee Titans.

Will the Jacksonville Jaguars have the upper hand? It depends on the status of quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who’s missed the last two games with a shoulder injury.

Lawrence, a former No. 1 overall pick, injured his left shoulder two weeks ago against the Philadelphia Eagles. He never exited the game, finishing 16 of 31 for 169 yards with two interceptions and running for two touchdowns.

For the past two weeks, the former Clemson has been held out in games vs. the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, giving backup QB Mac Jones the start.

Will Sunday mark the third consecutive game he’s out? Here’s the latest surrounding Lawrence’s status against the Texans.

Trevor Lawrence injury update

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson told reporters Monday that Lawrence would return to the practice field after missing the last two games due to a non-throwing shoulder injury.

“Trevor’s going to practice today, and then we’ll see where he’s at from there,” Pederson said.

The fourth-year coach did not commit to Lawrence playing in Sunday’s matchup against the AFC South favorites, stating that he would only practice that day. Lawrence could be limited on Thursday and Friday, thus signaling that Jones could be the starter once more.

“We’ll see where Trevor’s at today, then he’s got tomorrow off. Come in and get treatment and see where he is at on Wednesday how he feels. He’s feeling better today, so that’s positive,” Pederson said.

Monday was a step forward for the franchise signal-caller. He hadn’t hit the practice field since Week 10 before the team’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Lawrence also didn’t practice at all in Week 11 before the team’s game against the Detroit Lions and was limited during the team’s bye.

Trevor Lawrence injury history

Since being drafted out of Clemson in 2021, Lawrence has started 59 of a possible 62 games. He previously missed Week 17 of the 2023 season against the Carolina Panthers due to injury.

Lawrence sustained ankle, knee, shoulder and head injuries during the 2023 season and missed most of the team’s practices, whether completely or limited, during the final six games of the year. He only missed one game, however, before the 2024 campaign.

Who would start in place of Lawrence?

Should Lawrence miss a third game, Jones is expected to start. While the numbers are underwhelming, Jones hasn’t been the biggest problem for Jacksonville’s woes amid a 2-9 season.

While he does have a 0-2 record as a starter, Jones has completed 60.78% of his passes for 249 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions. The Jaguars have totaled 13 combined points over the last two matchups in losses to the Vikings and Lions.

Trevor Lawrence stats

Even before the injury, Lawrence’s fourth year had been a roller coaster of sorts. In nine games, Lawrence has completed 61.3% of his passes for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.

In Lawrence’s last five games, he completed 67.76% of his passes for 1,276 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

Jaguars depth chart

Here’s what the Jaguars’ depth chart is going into Sunday’s matchup against the Texans at home. With a win, Jacksonville would survive a playoff elimination for at least another week.

  • QB1: Trevor Lawrence (O-shoulder)
  • QB2: Mac Jones
  • QB3: C.J. Beathard
  • Practice squad: John Rhys Plumlee

Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is scheduled for noon CT.
