A 13-year-old became the first person to ever beat Tetris: Watch the stunning moment when he does it

SOMEONE ACTUALLY BEAT TETRIS!

Stop and think about it: Have you ever seen someone actually beat the classic block-dropping game Tetris?

Sure, you’ve seen people lose at Tetris, getting their blocks to the top of the screen. But winning the game? That’s apparently never happened.

Until now.

Meet Willis Gibson, a 13-year-old from Oklahoma who filmed himself playing the game and getting to level after level — 157 LEVELS IN ALL! — back in December.

But how do you “beat” Tetris when it can seemingly go on ad infinitum? Well, Gibson got to what’s called a “kill screen” — basically the game glitches out and stops entirely.

The video is astounding:

From The Associated Press, the game’s CEO delivered congrats:

“Congratulations to ‘blue scuti’ for achieving this extraordinary accomplishment, a feat that defies all preconceived limits of this legendary game,” Tetris CEO Maya Rogers said in a statement. Rogers noted that Tetris will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year and called Willis’ victory a “monumental achievement.”

Willis combined some innovative button-smashing techniques that have popped up over the years and getting through some tough color patterns, not to mention the speed as the blocks came down.

WOW!

Mobile game maker wants to give you things for playing Tetris

PlayStudios is teaming up with Apple and a number of high-profile organizations to give you rewards for playing the Tetris mobile game

PlayStudios is teaming up with Apple and several high-profile organizations to give you rewards for playing their mobile games, and it’s starting with Tetris on mobile. PlayStudios, makers of hit casual games for mobile devices such as Sudoku, Spider Solitaire, and Tetris’ mobile version, announced plans to integrate its playAwards loyalty platform with its portfolio of games, giving players a chance to earn real-world rewards for reaching in-game milestones.

The Tetris rewards platform goes live at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time on March 28, 2023.

PlayStudios partners with dozens of entertainment and leisure brands for its playAwards program, including MGM, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and for the Tetris celebration, Apple. To celebrate the Tetris movie’s Apple TV+ release on March 31, 2023, you can redeem points earned through completing daily missions and challenges in Tetris for a one-month Apple TV+ subscription.

“This is an exciting evolution for Tetris and a groundbreaking advancement for casual mobile gaming as a whole,” Andrew Pascal, founder and CEO of PlayStudios, said. “Our players earn loyalty points for doing something they love and can use those points for a range of enjoyable travel and leisure activities. At the same time, our rewards partners are introduced to passionate consumers. Everyone wins.”

The company will gradually roll out playAwards integration for its other games as well, though PlayStudios didn’t give a timeline for when this might happen.

If you haven’t checked out Tetris on mobile yet but like the sound of free stuff, you can download the free-to-play game from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and even play in offline mode to save your data.
