All three finalists will soon meet with top Lakers officials — including owner Jeanie Buss — in Los Angeles for the next in-person stage, sources said. So far, Lakers vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, director of basketball affairs Kurt Rambis, vice president of research and development Joey Buss and assistant general manager Jesse Buss have led the first stage of coaching interviews.

Report: There are three finalists for Lakers head coaching job

The Lakers’ search for a new head coach seems to be moving forward.

It appears the Los Angeles Lakers have headed into the next stage of their head coaching search.

Over the last few weeks, they have reportedly interviewed several candidates, including some young assistant coaches and a couple of former head coaches who are well-known and well-established.

Now, the number of candidates who the team is considering for the job has been narrowed down.

Via Lakers Daily:

“Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham and former Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts reportedly have advanced to the final round of interviews for the Los Angeles Lakers’ head-coaching job.

“Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson is reportedly also a finalist for the job.”

Ham is a young assistant who is reportedly highly regarded as head coaching material around the league and has never been a head coach at the NBA level.

Atkinson and Stotts, on the other hand, have spent several years each as a head coach.

Atkinson led the Brooklyn Nets for four seasons from 2017 to 2020, while Stotts was at the helm for the Portland Trail Blazers from 2013 until last season.

L.A. fired Frank Vogel, who had been its head coach for three seasons, at the end of the regular season last month. Vogel guided the team to the 2020 NBA championship.

Plaschke noted in his interview that in his discussion with Jeanie, she pushed back against the mere idea of trading LeBron, so it certainly doesn’t feel like that is a remote possibility. He also said he believes the Lakers would keep Westbrook next season and would make it a requirement for the next head coach to make it work with Westbrook, LeBron and Anthony Davis. -via Silverscreenandroll.com / May 11, 2022

Former Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts to interview for Hornets job

Charlotte continues their coaching search as they add another candidate to their list.

The Charlotte Hornets continue to add candidates to their coaching search.

Reported by Shams Charania on Tuesday, the Hornets are scheduled to interview former Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts for their head coaching vacancy this week.

Stotts, who has already interviewed for the Lakers’ vacancy, joins a long list of candidates for the Hornets’ job, that includes Bucks assistant Darvin Ham, former Lakers coach Frank Vogel, and two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike D’Antoni.

Reported by Marc Stein, D’Antoni had found himself to be in a ‘strong position’ for the job due to his experience and ability to connect offensively with LaMelo Ball.

Stotts and the Trail Blazers mutually parted ways last season after their fourth first-round exit in five years.
