Nick Saban roasted himself after losing to Miss Terry’s elite College GameDay picks

GameDay wasn’t about to let Nick Saban forget he lost to Miss Terry in Week 5.

ESPN’s College GameDay has opened the 2024 college football season with some standout guest pickers, including Dawn Staley, Michael Phelps, Johnny Manziel and, of course, Miss Terry Saban, who made an appearance for Week 5’s game between Alabama and Georgia.

Miss Terry — who’s been married for more than 50 years to former Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, now a panelist on GameDay — was an absolute delight on the show, and college football fans loved her appearance, as she showed off her extensive football knowledge too with some great picks.

In fact, Miss Terry’s GameDay picks were so accurate that her Week 5 record was better than her husband’s. She finished at 7-2, while Nick Saban went 6-3. Before the GameDay crew could even start to get a few jokes off at Saban’s expense on Saturday when the show aired live from Berkeley, California, the former coach explained how miserable this week has been for him after Miss Terry’s picks.

“I’ve been hearing this all over the country,” Saban said. “There’s no place that I can go that I don’t hear about Miss Terry beating me.”

Hilariously, one of the correct picks Miss Terry made that Nick Saban did not was Colorado over UCF, and Miss Terry gasped when her husband picked “against our good friend Deion” Sanders.

Either way, we hope Miss Terry enjoys her bragging rights after last week’s GameDay appearance.

Miss Terry Saban delivered a delightful College GameDay appearance, and football fans loved it

Miss Terry, who’s been married to Nick Saban for more than 50 years, was wonderful as GameDay’s guest picker.

ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast every Saturday during football season always has a special guest picker, but this week, it had an extra special guest who absolutely delighted fans.

Terry Saban — who’s been married to Nick Saban for more than 50 years — was GameDay‘s guest picker No. 2 Georgia against No. 4 Alabama in Week 5, and, to no one’s surprise, she turned out to be one of the best guest pickers of all time. Miss Terry, as she’s known, seemed nervous but in a sweet way, and Nick seemed nervous in more of a slightly terrified way, as the pair sat side by side.

While seemingly charming everyone watching, Miss Terry showed off her extensive football knowledge, made some solid picks and had cute back-and-forths with her husband, who’s now a regular on the show after retiring as Alabama’s football coach.

It was wonderful and hilarious at times, like when she was hiding her picks from Nick:

And when she literally gasped when Nick picked UCF over Deion Sanders’ Colorado team:

She also actually got to enjoy the tailgating scene now that her husband is no longer on the sidelines:

Miss Terry on GameDay was must-see TV for diehard college football fans, who loved her appearance as a guest picker — especially the Alabama fans, obviously.

Social media reacts to Nick Saban showing up to work a day after retiring

Nick Saban hasn’t even been retired for a full 24 hours, but he’s back on campus and looks ready to work.

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has returned to campus less than 24 hours after officially announcing his retirement. While he’s likely there for reasons of meeting with media and assisting in the new coaching search, fans were quick to make jokes online.

This is uncharted territory for many Crimson Tide fans, who have been comfortable every offseason for the last 17 years knowing that Saban would be working all Spring and Summer with plans of dominating the Fall and Winter.

Though fans are still dealing with the emotional side of things, it was great to see them make some lighthearted jokes upon seeing Saban’s return to the Mal Moore Athletic Facility.

Terry Saban makes public statement on Nick Saban’s career

Miss Terry releases a statement regarding Nick Saban’s time as the Alabama football head coach.

The day that many Alabama fans have long feared has arrived: Nick Saban has decided to retire.

While Crimson Tide fans and college football enthusiasts take time to digest this difficult news, Terry Saban, his wife, shared a public statement.

On the Nick’s Kids Foundation Facebook page, “Miss Terry” shares a heartfelt message to all of those who supported her and her husband, who coached football at the University of Alabama.

“It has been an incredible run these last 17 years at the University of Alabama, and we take with us many amazing memories. We hope that the Saban legacy will be about helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives as well as the winning tradition on the field. Our Nick’s Kids Foundation will continue to help children, student and teacher causes in the State of Alabama. The rules for the game of football may change, but the ‘process’ will never go out of style: hard work, discipline, the relentless pursuit of a worthy goal, not cutting corners, and doing things the right way for the sake of constant personal improvement, not for the scoreboard. Alabama will always feel like ‘Sweet Home’ to our family, and we’ll be cheering ‘Roll Tide’!”

The news is still fresh, but there will likely be many more statements from the Saban family over the next few days.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the news of Saban’s retirement and how the Alabama football program will handle this transition.

Saban doesn’t want to take this suggestion from Miss Terry

This is great. Saban doesn’t want to take this suggestion from Miss Terry, and his reasoning is comical.

Nick Saban has never been shy to admit that his wife, Miss Terry, offers up some advice on football occasionally.

Thursday night during his weekly radio show, he informed the audience that Miss Terry wants him to send more blitzes.

As a DB in college and a defensive coach by nature, Saban knows how vulnerable the secondary is during blitzing situations. It can be especially detrimental if used at the wrong time.

Ole Miss employs an offense that can pummel their opponents through the air. Blitzes could be useful against them if they get to the quarterback in time to prevent a big play.

But Ole Miss QB Matt Corral has a quick release, making it difficult for blitzes to reach him before the ball is out of his hands.

Saban joked about his wife’s suggestion, view the tweet below from 247Sports’ Alabama beat writer Charlie Potter for his full quote.

It will be fun to see if he decides to go with Miss Terry’s gut and send more blitzes against Ole Miss on Saturday.

You can catch the game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 12 Ole Miss on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS.
