Tennessee to host NCAA Tournament as seven seed

Tennessee tennis will host the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed.

Tennessee (22-6) will host the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional as a No. 7 seed at Barksdale Stadium.

2024 marks Tennessee’s 15th time hosting the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds. The Vols will also host a Knoxville Regional for the fifth time in as many NCAA Tournaments.

The Vols will play East Tennessee State (13-9) in the first round on Friday. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. EDT. North Carolina (14-9) and Memphis (18-6) will also compete in the Knoxville Regional on Friday at 10 a.m. EDT.

Tickets for the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional are available for $5 to the general public and can be purchased here. Admission is free for students.

Tennessee (18-7, 9-4) earned a No. 16 seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Lady Vols will host the Knoxville Regional first and second rounds at Barksdale Stadium.

“Our team is excited to be hosting the first two rounds of the tournament again,” Lady Vols’ tennis head coach Alison Ojeda said. “Our squad has worked really hard and they have earned the opportunity to compete at home on Rocky Top!”

Johannus Monday named to SEC All-Tournament Team

Tennessee’s Johannus Monday named to SEC All-Tournament Team.

Tennessee senior Johannus Monday was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Tournament Team.

Monday recorded two victories during the SEC Tournament.

He defeated Florida’s Jeremy Jin, 6-2, 7-5, in the tournament singles quarterfinals. Jin entered the SEC Tournament ranked No. 52 in the nation.

Monday also won in the semifinals, defeating No. 15 Toby Samuel of South Carolina, 6-1, 6-3.

Monday went 17-1 against top ranked opponents during the 2023-24 season, He is also 23-2 in dual matches.

Monday and Angel Diaz also defeated Florida’s Aidan Kim and Nate Bonetto, 6-1, in doubles competition.

Tennessee awaits its NCAA Tournament seeding during the selection show on April 29. The show will be streamed on NCAA.com at 6 p.m. EDT.

Vols advance to SEC Tournament semifinals after Florida win

No. 6 Tennessee (22-5) defeated No. 25 Florida (13-11), 4-1, on Friday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

The Vols advance to play No. 11 South Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. EDT. The match will take place at LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

No. 17 Tennessee (18-6, 9-4 SEC) defeated No. 16 Auburn (16-10, 9-4 SEC), 4-3, on Friday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

The Lady Vols advance to the semifinals against No. 1 seed Georgia on Saturday at 3 p.m. EDT. The SEC Tournament is taking place at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.

“We knew this evening would be a battle against Auburn and that’s exactly what it was, right up until the last point,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. “Our team did an amazing job at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to give us a 1-0 lead going into singles. We battled on every court, just as they did. Sofia (Cabezas) played very committed and disciplined tennis, which is why she was able to beat one of the best players in college tennis.”

Vols defeat Ole Miss to win sixth consecutive match

Tennessee defeats the Rebels to win sixth consecutive match.

No. 7 Tennessee (21-4, 10-1 SEC) defeated No. 59 Ole Miss (9-13, 2-9 SEC), 5-2, at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Mississippi.

Sunday’s win is the Vols’ sixth consecutive. Tennessee clinched a doubles point by sweeping two completed doubles matches.

Catherine Aulia earns SEC Player of the Week honors

Tennessee sophomore Catherine Aulia earns SEC Player of the Week honors.

Tennessee sophomore Catherine Aulia earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors on Wednesday.

Aulia received SEC Player of the Week honors after clinching matches at No. 16 Auburn and No. 23 Alabama. The Rosebery, Australia native holds a 27-21 singles record and is 27-20 in doubles competition at Tennessee.

Aulia was also named to the 2022-23 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll and earned 2022-23 Division I ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete honors.

Tennessee (13-6, 5-4 SEC) will next host Ole Miss on Friday. First serve between the Lady Vols and Rebels is slated for 4 p.m. EDT at Barksdale Stadium. The Lady Vols will conclude regular-season play against Vanderbilt at Barksdale Stadium on April 14.
