Tennessee at Vanderbilt: Three things to know
- The Vols have rattled off a pair of wins after a stunning 71-63 setback against Alabama at home Jan. 2. They split the two wins against the spread. The Under is 4-1 across Tennessee’s past five outings.
- It has been tough sledding for Vandy since the conference portion of the schedule kicked in. The Commodores were a respectable 4-2 straight up and 2-3-1 ATS in their first six non-conference tilts. The ‘Dores are 0-3 SU across three SEC battles to date, although they covered the spread in two of those outings. The Over is 3-0 in Vandy’s three SEC battles and 5-0 in its past five games overall.
- Vanderbilt is having difficulty so far, but Commodores fans have enjoyed watching G Scotty Pippen Jr. He leads the team with 21.6 points, 5.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game, and only he and F Dylan Disu are averaging double-digit points per game.

Money line (ML)
Tennessee (-900) will cost you nine times your potential return, which is just way too much on a road team. It’s not a long-term winning betting strategy, even if Vanderbilt is winless and struggling in conference play.
AVOID.
Against the spread (ATS)
TENNESSEE -11.5 (-120) opened the season 5-0 ATS, but it is just 2-3 ATS in its previous five outings. The Vols have failed to cover in consecutive games since doing so in each of the first five games of the season (Dec. 8-21).
The road team is also 12-2 ATS across the past 14 meetings in this series, which bodes well for the Vols. They have covered in five of their past seven games on the road while cashing in six of their previous eight following a straight-up win.
Over/Under (O/U)
UNDER 137.5 (-105) is worth a small-unit play, as the Vols are tremendous on defense, and the Commodores have really struggled to find offense outside of Pippen. The Under has hit in four of the past five for the Vols.
Yes, the Over has hit in five in a row for Vandy, but the Under has cashed in all but one of their past five against teams with a winning overall mark. The Commodores will struggle against a Vols D allowing just 56.8 PPG, ranking third in the country.
