There are a lot of teams with plenty to play for in Week 16 of the NFL season. There are plenty of storylines to follow and there is plenty of money to be made. Finding the intersection between the 2 points will be the key to finding some good plays to wager on.

NFL Week 16: Let’s make some money parlay

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated on Thursday at 12:08 a.m. ET. All games Saturday and ET unless noted.

Leg 1: LIONS -2.5 (-118) at Panthers – 1 p.m. (FOX)

The Lions have the 31st ranked defense in the NFL, but the defense has played better in recent weeks and the offense has been solid all season.

Jared Goff has set himself up as the QB for Detroit in 2023 with the way he has meshed with WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. With the offensive line blocking great for D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, the Lions are on the verge of making the playoffs. The team has already gone over its win total of 6.5 for the season.

Carolina is still alive in the NFC South, but has a lot of ground to make up and not a talented roster to do it with. While this game will be close early, the Lions will pull away and win by more than a field goal.

Leg 2: Giants at Vikings OVER 48 (-111) – 1 p.m. (FOX)

This is an important spot for both teams. Saquon Barkley is coming off a good game on Sunday night and the Vikings are coming off an incredible 33-point comeback victory against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen will be able to put up points in this game. The Vikings defense will also give up points to the Giants. While 48 is much higher then the other over I am on in this parlay, I like this game to get to about 55. Both teams need this game for their playoff seeding and it will be important for both. Expect the offenses to come out humming.

Leg 3: Saints at Browns OVER 32.5 (-109) – 1 p.m. (CBS)

The total of this game is the lowest total in an NFL in over a decade. The weather will be around -10 and it will be snowy and windy. This means the run game will be important. Saints RB Alvin Kamara will be up for the challenge and if Nick Chubb comes back to practice and is able to play for the Browns, I can see 5 TD being scored in this game.

I do not think it will be a shootout in the 40’s for each team. But all I am asking for is a 20-14 game. I think this is viable. Even in the tough conditions which will be had in Cleveland.

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to win $66.40 (profit $56.40).

Leg 4-*: Texans at TITANS -3 (-116) – 1 p.m. (CBS)

*-If you want to add a 4th play to this parlay:

Derrick Henry and the Titans love to play against the Texans. This game will be even better for the Titans as the Texans will be without RB Dameon Pierce and WRs Brandin Cooks and Niko Collins. The Texans have not given up, but they might as well have. The Titans will finally be able to get off their 4-game slide when they play at home in this game. Even without Ryan Tannehill, QB Malik Willis and Henry can do enough to win this battle of AFC South teams.

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to win $126.90 (profit $116.90).

The chalk: Detroit Lions

Who they play: at Carolina Panthers – 1 p.m. (FOX)

The Lions come into Charlotte after beating the New York Jets 20-17 on Sunday to go over their season wins total of 6.5. After starting 1-6 they have won 6 of 7 and it was certainly not something many saw coming.

With Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift, Detroit has a solid running game for the 1st time in many years. This has helped take pressure off Jared GoffAmon-Ra St. Brown has taken his place amongst the best young WR in the NFL and Jamison Williams, who is finally healthy, has added a 2nd receiver to the mix for Goff to find.

While the defense of Detroit started the season as one of the worst in the NFL, it has improved to the point of mediocrity as the season has progressed. While this may not seem like a lot, it is good enough as the Lions continue to score points against their opponents. This should be another game in which the Lions offense can overcome a Panthers team which at 5-9, is fighting for a division title but is still far less talented than the Lions.

D.J. Moore has not yet found a connection with Sam Darnold to make me believe the Panthers have enough firepower to win a high-scoring game. With Detroit likely to get to 30 in this Christmas Eve game, they will do more than enough on offense to win against a lackluster Panthers team. The Detroit Lions are my favorite Survivor Pool play in Week 16.

Off the board: Tennessee Titans

Who they play: Home vs. Houston Texans – 1 p.m. (CBS)

Derrick Henry finally got over 100 yards against the Chargers on Sunday. He also managed to have more then 60 receiving yards as he did everything possible to get the Titans their 1st win in 4 games. Despite his play, an injury to Ryan Tannehill was too much to overcome for Tennessee. This week will be entirely different.

Not only does Henry routinely feast on the Texans defense, but the Texans will also be without starting WRs Niko Collins and Brandin Cooks. The team will also be without CB Derek Stingley and RB Dameon Pierce, the leading rusher for the Texans just placed on injured reserve.

Whether it be Kyle Allen, Davis Mills or a combination of both at QB in this game for Houston, it will not be able to move the ball much. Tennessee will keep the Texans off the field with Henry likely to get 30-plus carries. The Titans will shorten this game and attempt to get out with an easy win after so many tough recent losses. The Titans will get back on track here as they look to win the AFC South division over the streaking Jaguars.

Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans odds, lines, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans Week 17 match up, with NFL betting odds, lines, picks and best bets

The Tennessee Titans (8-7) head into their game in Houston knowing that a win locks them into the playoffs, while the Houston Texans (10-5) have a chance to improve their playoff seeding. The game kicks off at NRG Stadium at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday.

For the Texans to earn the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs (they are currently seeded No. 4 as AFC South division winners), they’ll need to beat the Titans and have the Los Angeles Chargers to beat an 8.5-point favorite Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs play during Sunday’s early slate, so Texans head coach Bill O’Brien should know by kickoff whether the Texans have anything to play for … which could impact how long he plays his starters.

If the Texans starters see limited action or don’t play, then it would be a monumental disappointment if the Titans lost this game — and control of whether they make the postseason.

We analyze the Titans-Texans odds and sports betting lines while providing betting tips and advice on this Week 17 NFL matchup.

Titans at Texans: Week 17 preview, betting trends and notes

  • The Texans beat the Titans 24-21 in Week 15, but the two have split the two-game series each season since 2016.
  • RB Derrick Henry has struggled in his career against the Texans:  he’s rushed for only 362 yards (51.7 per game) with two touchdowns in seven games against the Texans.
  • The Texans have won seven straight home games outright (6-1 against the spread) versus the Titans
  • The home team is 6-1 ATS in their last seven meetings.
  • Titans are 8-2 on the over/under in their last 10 games.
  • The Titans have scored 20+ points in each game QB Ryan Tannehill has started (6-3).

Titans at Texans: Key injuries

Titans: WR Adam Humphries (ankle) and CB Adoree’ Jackson (foot) were among those who did not practice. The Titans missed RB Derrick Henry (hamstring) last week in their 38-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints, but he’s on track to play in Week 17 against the Texans.

Texans: WR Will Fuller (groin) hasn’t practiced this week and is expected to miss the game. Numerous Texans starters were limited in practice this week, as well, including QB Deshaun Watson (back), WR DeAndre Hopkins (illness), WR Kenny Stills (knee), T Laremy Tunsil (ankle) and CB Bradley Roby (hamstring).

Prediction

Titans 29, Texans 10

Moneyline (?)

I LOVE the TITANS -182 moneyline because it’s guaranteed that the Titans play all of their starters whereas it’s not with the Texans. In Week 15, the Titans outgained the Texans (432-374) and had more first downs, 24-23. A fluke Tannehill interception in the red zone, which lead to a Texans touchdown, was the major turning point that I will not factor in when handicapping this Week 17 matchup. BET TITANS -182.

New to sports betting? Every $182 wagered on the Titans to win straight up would profit $100 if the Titans win. A successful $10 wager on the Titans to win the game would return $5.49.

Against the Spread (?)

Even more so than the moneyline bet, whether the Texans go all out with their starters impacts the point-spread consideration. Of course, the Titans could still cover with the Texans’ starters playing the full 60, but if Watson isn’t out there making magic happen and the Texans trot out backups on a defense that ranks 30th in passing yards allowed per game, then a red-hot Tannehill and the TITANS (-4.5 +110) is a great bet.

Over/Under (?)

I anticipate this will be a one-sided affair with the Titans manhandling the Texans who will eventually sit their best players to preserve them for the playoffs. I don’t see Texans backup QB AJ McCarron and second-stringers having success. However, the likelihood of the Titans having offensive success concerns me. But ultimately I recommend BETTING UNDER 45.5 (-115).
