AAC Tournament: Tulane vs. Temple odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Tulane vs. Temple AAC Tournament odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The fifth-seeded Tulane Green Wave (13-14) meet the fourth-seeded Temple Owls (17-11) Friday. The quarterfinal in the American Athletic Conference Tournament at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, is slated to tip-off at 3 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Tulane vs. Temple odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Tulane went 10-8 in conference play to finish fifth in the AAC. The Green Wave are a very good distance shooting squad; their 36.8% mark from 3-point land leads the American. Tulane went 9-for-18 on triples in a 92-83 overtime win Feb. 12 against Temple but would lose 75-70 to the Owls Feb. 27 to result in a season split.

Temple went 10-7 in conference play to finish fourth. The Owls rely on defense and a slow-tempo style in grinding out their best performances. They’ve held foes to a 40.3% mark from the field since Feb. 7 and have been especially good in defending the perimeter.

Tulane vs. Temple odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Temple 70, Tulane 68

Money line

These are two of the younger teams in NCAA-I hoops. Tulane heads into this contest with more offensive momentum, but Temple has the edge in key areas like offensive rebounding and free-throw rate.

Recent Owls performances at Cincinnati and Memphis were solid. The regular-season games between these two were awfully close. Figure this one being a near-pick-’em: TAKE TEMPLE (-110).

Against the spread

The Temple ML lean is the lean as the primary play here. Some bettors may, however, consider adding a TEMPLE -1.5 (+100) to chase the plus money value in chasing a 2-point victory.

Over/Under

No room on either side: STEER CLEAR.

Temple at Houston odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Temple at Houston odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Temple Owls (16-10, 9-6 AAC) visit the Hofheinz Pavilion Thursday to take on the No. 14 Houston Cougars (25-4, 14-2 AAC). Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Temple vs. Houston odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Houston enters the conference matchup having covered 3 straight double-digit spreads with 2 at home, including beating Cincinnati by 18 points.

Houston is 18-11 against the spread (ATS) this season. The Cougars are led by G Marcus Sasser who is averaging 17.7 points per game.

Temple posts a solid ATS record at 16-10. On the season, the Owls are just 5-5 straight up on the road. They currently have the second-best covering record in conference games at 10-5.

Temple at Houston odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Houston 70, Temple 58

Money line

PASS.

Temple is 5-5 on the road and Houston is 15-1 at home. Despite that, Temple should have more to play for, rendering both odds on the money line unplayable, especially Houston’s -1600.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to TEMPLE +15.5 (-110).

While Houston is the superior team, Temple should be a tough matchup as the Owls have recent wins at Cincinnati and against SMU.

Temple has a top-tier defense, ranking 22nd in the nation in opponents’ field goal percentage, Houston sits atop that category, allowing opponents to shoot just 36.9%.

Temple lost by just 5 points at home earlier in the season against Houston. The Owls are 2-1 when getting 10 or more points on the spread. When giving at least 10, Houston is 9-6 ATS.

With how well Temple has played in conference play, 15.5 seems to be a good number to project them to cover by. The Owls are 6-4 ATS on the road as well.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 131.5 (-110).

Both teams are good at covering the spread, and the other thing they’ve been doing at a high rate is hitting the Under. The Owls are 10-15-1 O/U this season with the Cougars 13-15-1.

The strength of both teams is in the defense, with Houston allowing just 58.8 points per game to opponents. Houston is 6-10 O/U as the home team while Temple is 4-6 O/U on the road.

The first meeting pushed at 127 as the end score was 66-61. In Houston, getting a few more points, I would side with the Under as it has been the better season-long trend for both programs.

Temple at Cincinnati odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Temple Owls at Cincinnati Bearcats odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Temple Owls (3-2, 1-0 AAC) travel to meet the No. 6 Cincinnati Bearcats (4-0, 0-0) Friday at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Temple vs. Cincinnati odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Owls opened the season on the wrong side of a 61-14 beatdown from Rutgers Sept. 4, and after a 28-3 loss at home to Boston College, it looked like it might be a long season. But the Owls turned it around with a 41-7 win over FCS Wagner and an even more impressive 34-31 win over Memphis as 11-point underdogs last weekend.

Speaking of impressive, the Bearcats went to South Bend and topped Notre Dame 24-13 in a battle of top-10 teams. It was the second straight win on the road against a Power 5 team for Cincinnati, which is 3-1 against the spread overall.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Temple at Cincinnati odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cincinnati 45, Temple 17

Money line

Cincinnati (-5000) will cost you 50 times your potential return, or a $2 profit on a $100 wager. That’s amateur hour and not a good long-term betting strategy, even in a multiple-team parlay.

AVOID and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

Play CINCINNATI -29.5 (-107) in its first AAC game of the season. The only concern with playing the Bearcats at home is the potential of a letdown after their monumental win at Notre Dame last weekend.

Temple won’t sniff an upset, but it should be able to grab the backdoor cover.

Over/Under

The OVER 54.5 (-108) is way to go. Temple has hit the Over in three of four games against FBS opponents this season, and the Owls are allowing 30.2 points per game (PPG) overall. That’s not good when facing a Bearcats offense tossing up 38.3 PPG.

Yes, Cincinnati’s defense has had it on lockdown this season, but the Owls should be able to grab at least a touchdown in the first half, and perhaps some points in garbage time when the Bearcats take their foot off the gas a little.

Temple at Rutgers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Temple at Rutgers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Temple Owls will travel to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Saturday night of Week 1 after their Thursday matchup was postponed and relocated. The game is now set to kick off at noon ET and will be held at SHI Stadium. Below, we look at the Temple vs. Rutgers odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Temple is coming off an unimpressive season in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls were 1-6 on the season with all their games coming in conference play. Their one win was at home over South Florida.

Already giving a slight edge as the favorite now at home, Rutgers, despite not being a top-tier program, is fighting against Big Ten opponents.

The Scarlet Knights defeated Purdue and Michigan State while also putting up more than 20 points on Indiana and Ohio State last season. They’re a competent program, bringing in 18 three-star recruits.

Temple at Rutgers odds, spread and lines

  • Against the spread (ATS): Temple +14.5 (-108) | Rutgers -14.5 (-112)

Temple at Rutgers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 31, Temple 14

Money line

PASS on the money line as it’s just too pricy.

There’s not much more to it than that. Rutgers was a bottom-tier Big Ten team, and I wouldn’t put the type of money on the line that it would take to return anything of importance.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to RUTGERS -14.5 (-112) to cover the lofty spread and win by 15 or more points. This is more of a bet against Temple as it was playing a top-heavy conference yet still managed to get pummeled.

While Rutgers didn’t have a win by more than 14 points last season, it managed to take down quality opponents. The Scarlet Knights brought in recruits and should be ready to rock. The Big Ten is a different beast.

Temple lost each of its last four games by more than 20 points. Without much help inbound, expect Rutgers to cover Saturday.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 52.5 (-115) as the best value in this game.

Both teams are coming off heavily restricted seasons due to COVID-19, so the rust should be there. We’ve seen games already in Week 1 be more defensive-minded as teams look to find their groove offensively.

Five of Rutgers top six recruits were on the defensive side of the ball. With that in mind, QB Noah Vedral is back and had just 9 touchdowns in seven games last season.

Temple scored 42 over their last four games last season. This one should be a low-scoring affair and even a 35-17 final seems like a high number for these two sides.

Temple at Houston odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Temple Owls at Houston Cougars sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Temple Owls (1-0, 0-0 AAC) visit the Houston Cougars (5-0, 0-0) Tuesday for an 8 p.m. tip at the Fertitta Center in Houston. Below, we analyze the Temple-Houston college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Temple at Houston: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:15 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Temple +1100 (bet $100 to win $1,100) | Houston -2500 (bet $2,500 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Temple +16 (+100) | Houston -16 (-120)
  • Over/Under: 134.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Temple at Houston: Three things to know

  1. Temple has just one game under its belt, a 72-60 win over NJIT on Dec. 19, covering a 10-point number. Houston has won each of its first five games, but they have covered just three times. Two of the covers were impressive victories over Texas Tech and South Carolina.
  2. The Cougars have managed 77.2 points per game, which is rather middling, but it’s their defense which has been most impressive. They’re allowing just 55.6 PPG, ranking eighth in the country, and they’re fourth in 3-pointer defense, allowing opponents to hit just 20.5 percent from behind the arc.
  3. This is the AAC conference opener for both sides. In the past 10 meetings, the road team has hit against the spread eight times. However, Temple is 2-6 ATS in the past eight road games against teams with a winning home mark.

Temple at Houston: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Houston 76, Temple 63

Money line (ML)

Houston (-2500) has plenty of games under their belt, and that will make a difference in this one. But you cannot back a team that costs $100 for every $4 won. That’s just not a good long-term gambling model. It’s amateurish. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEMPLE +16 (+100) isn’t going to win this game, but the Owls looked pretty good in their opener over the Highlanders. Facing an experienced Houston side with four more games of experience this season is a tall order, but 16 points is a bit much. Take the points in this conference opener for both.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 134.5 (-115) is the lean here. After three straight Under results to start, the Over has cashed in each of the past two for Houston against South Carolina and Alcorn State. It might not inch over the finish line until the final minute or two, but this baby is going Over.

Previewing Saturday’s SMU Mustangs at Temple Owls sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The SMU Mustangs (6-1 overall, 3-1 AAC) take on the Temple Owls (1-3, 1-3) Saturday at noon ET in an American Athletic Conference tussle at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Below, we analyze the SMU-Temple college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Mustangs are ranked 18th in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

SMU at Temple: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 12:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: SMU -910 (bet $910 to win $100) | Temple +550 (bet $100 to win $550)
  • Against the spread/ATS: SMU -17.5 (-110) | Temple +17.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 62.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

SMU at Temple: Three things to know

  1. Southern Methodist won last year’s meeting 45-21 (Oct. 19). Then-junior QB Shane Buechele tossed six touchdown passes as part of a 457-yard game. The Mustangs outgained the Owls, 655 yards to 273, and had four scoring drives of nine-or-more plays.
  2. The Mustangs have logged 523 total yards per game, which ranks seventh in the nation. Southern Methodist has thrown for 330.1 yards per game, which ranks 13th. It has all added up to 39.6 points per game (13th). The SMU defense has been touched up for 113 points over the last three weeks, but overall, the Mustangs’ 29.4 PPG allowed is a would-be season best for the program since 2012 (25.7).
  3. Temple has logged just two takeaways in four games, and that’s contributed to the Owls allowing 36.8 PPG (82nd FBS). A week ago, at Tulane (in a 38-3 loss), Temple coughed up 6.0 yards per rush and 284 rushing yards total. The Owls have allowed 213.5 rushing yards per game (88th). Dating to last September, TU has allowed 200-plus yards on the ground six times

SMU at Temple: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

SMU 38, Temple 21

Money line (ML)

The price is too steep on SMU (-910). AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Mustangs are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games. Owls QB Anthony Russo is out with a shoulder injury and will be spelled by sophomore QB Trad Beatty.

PASS on an ATS play for now, but CONSIDER A TEMPLE WAGER should the line reach 20 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

PEG THE UNDER AS HAVING SOME VALUE, especially if that figure hits 63.
