- Southern Methodist won last year’s meeting 45-21 (Oct. 19). Then-junior QB Shane Buechele tossed six touchdown passes as part of a 457-yard game. The Mustangs outgained the Owls, 655 yards to 273, and had four scoring drives of nine-or-more plays.
- The Mustangs have logged 523 total yards per game, which ranks seventh in the nation. Southern Methodist has thrown for 330.1 yards per game, which ranks 13th. It has all added up to 39.6 points per game (13th). The SMU defense has been touched up for 113 points over the last three weeks, but overall, the Mustangs’ 29.4 PPG allowed is a would-be season best for the program since 2012 (25.7).
- Temple has logged just two takeaways in four games, and that’s contributed to the Owls allowing 36.8 PPG (82nd FBS). A week ago, at Tulane (in a 38-3 loss), Temple coughed up 6.0 yards per rush and 284 rushing yards total. The Owls have allowed 213.5 rushing yards per game (88th).
