Former Wisconsin linebacker unfazed by sub-freezing temperatures in Kansas City

Former Wisconsin linebacker unfazed by sub-freezing temperatures in Kansas City

The story of the Chiefs vs. Dolphins Wild Card matchup last night isn’t just told by the final score of Chiefs 26, Dolphins 7.

It felt as though this game had more angles than any other in the NFL this weekend. The game was streaming only on Peacock, Jason Garrett was somehow on the call, Taylor Swift arrived wearing a jacket made by the wife of 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk and, most importantly, the game was the fourth-coldest in NFL history.

The broadcast made sure to emphasize the latter, often with an ongoing graphic with the real-time temperature and wind chill.

Many in that weather resort to more layers, or whatever is necessary to somehow stay warm. Others played football at the University of Wisconsin.

Leo Chenal counts as the latter:

Saints announce changes to training camp practice schedule due to excessive heat

The New Orleans Saints announced changes to their training camp practice schedule due to excessive temperatures, citing local heat warnings and a challenging forecast:

Citing “the current long-range forecast for the New Orleans area through the weekend,” the New Orleans Saints have announced changes to their training camp practice schedule. With rare heat hammering down Louisiana and the Gulf South — high temperatures are predicted to reach 98 degrees Fahrenheit this week, with intense humidity sending them dangerously high — the Saints are looking to limit everyone’s exposure to the elements.

Excessive heat warnings are in effect for many locales. When team drills began at Tuesday’s practice session, head index values rose as high as 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

The team will conduct stretching, warmups, and individual drills inside their indoor practice facility before moving outside for team drills at 10 a.m. CT; gates will open for fans to take their seats at 9:15 a.m. CT. So be prepared, and if you’re visiting Saints training camp adjust your plans accordingly.

Sure, part of the goal at training camp is to get players’ bodies in game-shape and help toughen them up for a long season. That doesn’t mean putting people at unnecessary risk. Not just the players themselves, but the team’s coaches, personnel, and the hundreds of fans in attendance. It’s a shame spectators won’t be seeing as much of practice as they planned on, but this is a smart move.

Snow flurries possible in Jaguars vs. Chiefs playoff game

It’ll be another cold one on Saturday with some snow possible.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won a chilly home game against the Los Angeles Chargers over Wild Card Weekend and will likely play in even colder conditions in the Divisional Round.

Early forecasts for Saturday say snow flurries are possible for the Jaguars’ playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

As of Wednesday, The Weather Channel says there’s an 80 percent chance of snow in Kansas City on Saturday with a high of 38 degrees and a low of 29.

Local meteorologists in Kansas City are saying the same:

The Jaguars’ 31-30 win against the Chargers was officially recorded at 45 degrees at kickoff, but dipped into the 30s before the end of the game.

The coldest playoff game in Jaguars history was the team’s 45-42 win on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2018 with the temperature at kickoff recorded at 18 degrees. Jacksonville also beat the Steelers in a snowy playoff game in January 2008.

Chilly night expected in Jacksonville for Chargers vs. Jaguars

It’s not often Jaguars fans have to bundle up for a home game, but Saturday is expected to be a cold one.

It’s not often that Jacksonville Jaguars fans need to bundle up for a game at TIAA Bank Field, but an upcoming playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers looks like it’ll be the exception.

While temperatures are expected to climb into the 70s this week in North Florida, a cold front in the forecast is projected to cool things down over the weekend.

The Weather Channel is predicting a high of 55 degrees and low of 34 degrees in Jacksonville on Saturday. The AccuWeather forecast has the high at 52 and low at 36.

With kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET — the first ever night playoff game at TIAA Bank Field — it could be one of the coldest home games in Jaguars history. The record belongs to a December 2010 game against Washington that was 38 degrees at kickoff. The top 10 coldest games in Jaguars history were all on the road.

The Chargers are currently listed as a one-point favorite over the Jaguars on BetMGM.

Wind chill has Cleveland’s Saints-Browns game feeling colder than ‘polar weather conditions’

The wind chill has Cleveland’s Saints-Browns game feeling colder than the South Pole:

Sheesh. The New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns are doing their best to warm up at FirstEnergy Stadium under heavy wind and snow, and yeah, it’s cold. It’s actually so cold with the wind chill, ESPN Stats and Info reports, that the on-field temperature at kickoff (a projected negative-21 degrees Fahrenheit) could be colder than the current temperature at the South Pole (negative-15 degrees).

Yikes. See the conditions for yourself from those on the ground in Cleveland:

Seahawks preparing for cold in Green Bay but have won in worse weather

The Seattle Seahawks are attempting to replicate the frigid temperatures of Green Bay before facing the Packers in the divisional round.

Much ado has been made about playing late in the season Green Bay, which often features some of the worst weather of all NFL venues. From snow to bitterly cold temperatures, anything is possible at Lambeau Field.

The Seahawks advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs after beating the Eagles and the matchups have been set. Seattle will square off against the Packers Sunday afternoon – make that early evening in Wisconsin.

Coach Pete Carroll and the Seahawks are used to wild weather at home, rain often being the case on gamedays in Seattle. Carroll was asked about the forecasted conditions for Green Bay this weekend.

“It looks like it’s going to be about 10 degrees colder than it was the other night, so, big deal,” Carroll said Wednesday. “That’s nothing. It was comfortable the other night. That was fine. It didn’t have any factor at all. If it’s in the twenties or whatever, 29 or 28, where it’s supposed to be, that’s no big deal. But, I’m not going to overlook the factor that the fellas might be thinking. We’ve already started to deal with that. You have to be very disciplined about that as well.”

Seattle is going through its own cold snap – with freezing temperatures and light snow possible all week before the Seahawks depart – and Carroll is making the most of the opportunities to replicate the upcoming weather. Plus, the temperature in Green Bay is expected to be downright balmy compared to when the Seahawks faced the Vikings in January 2016 in what proved to be the third-coldest game in NFL history.

“It depends on how the field is – if we can get out, we will,” Carroll explained. “We’re opening it up and blowing the air in to make sure. We’re not going to quite get it to where it’s going to be there. One thing we know that we’ve played in weather 50 degrees colder than it’s going to be.

“We’re really not going to worry about it.”

As of Thursday, the forecast for Sunday in Green Bay is partly sunny skies and 24 degrees. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. PT.
