Alabama softball sweeps the Gamecocks

Alabama softball gets a much-needed sweep of the South Carolina Gamecocks

The last couple of weeks has been a bit of a tough stretch for Patrick Murphy and the Alabama softball team. Before the weekend series with South Carolina, the Tide had lost four out of nine games which is very uncharacteristic of Team 26.

It looks like the ladies have found their groove again over the weekend in Columbia. Alabama was able to sweep the Gamecocks to improve its overall record to 28-4 and 6-3 in SEC play.

It took a come-from-behind effort on Friday night when a grand slam in the top of the sixth by KJ Haney gave the Tide a one-run lead before they added another in the top of the seventh to defeat South Carolina 7-5.

In game two of the series on Saturday, the Alabama bats caught fire as the Crimson Tide defeated the Gamecocks 10-2.

On Sunday, Montana Fouts dominated the South Carolina lineup, holding the Gamecocks to just two hits while striking out a career tying 16 batters.

Alabama will face Alabama State and Jacksonville State during the upcoming week before hosting the Georgia Bulldogs from Saturday through Monday.

Alabama softball continues hot start, defeats Louisiana 9-1

Team 26 continues to dominate the competition!

The Alabama softball team is off to a blazing hot start here in 2022. On Thursday, the ladies made the trip to Louisiana to take on the Ragin’ Cajuns in a matchup of top-25 teams. Alabama run-ruled Louisiana, cruising to a 9-1 victory in just five innings of work.

Kaylee Tow gave the Tide an early lead thanks to a two-run home run in the first inning. Thanks to a walk and a hit-by-pitch in the third inning, Alabama would plate two more runs before Lexi Kilfoyl knocked in a two-run double to give the ladies a 6-0 lead. By the time the third inning was completed, Alabama held a commanding 9-0 lead. Louisiana would knock in a run in the bottom of the fourth to avoid the shutout. Kilfoyl got the start on the mound and improved her season record to 3-0.

Alabama has now run-ruled six opponents on the young season and improves to 4-0 against ranked opponents.

The Crimson Tide will remain in Lousiana for the “Mardi Gras Mambo” tournament which is being held in Youngsville, LA.

Alabama’s tournament schedule will include, Nicholls, Southeastern Lousiana, Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech, and once again a meeting with the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Alabama Softball dominates Arizona 11-0

Alabama Softball run-rules ninth-ranked Arizona 11-0

Team 26 is off to an excellent start in the 2022 season. On Friday, the Crimson Tide kick-started the season with an 11-0 victory over Southern Utah. Saturday saw the ladies take care of business in their double-header. First Alabama defeated Oregon State 5-1 and in the nightcap, they defeated ninth-ranked Arizona Wildcats 11-0 in five innings via the run-rule.

Junior Lexi Kilfoyl got the start on the mound for the Tide against the Wildcats and delivered a two-hit shutout. Kilfoyl also got the ladies on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the third.

Junior catcher Abby Doerr continued the hot-hitting with a three-run home run that would extend the Tide’s lead to 6-0. The Crimson Tide would hit a flurry of solo shots that eventually gave Alabama a commanding 11-0 lead and forced the run-rule to be applied.

Team 26 sits with a 3-0 record and will wrap up its weekend trip in Tuscon with a matchup with the New Mexico Lobos on Sunday at 12;30 p.m. CT.

Alabama Softball 2022 team roster

Team 26 is fixing to be something special!

Alabama’s 2022 softball season will soon begin, as the Crimson Tide will take on Southern Utah on Friday, Feb. 11 in Tuscon, Arizona at the Candrea Classic.

Head coach Patrick Murphy will be without a few star players like Elissa Brown, Bailey Hemphill, Sarah Cornell, KB Sides and others this season, but the team is still expected to make a run for it all.

Montana Fouts named 2021 Pitcher of the Year

Alabama Softball pitcher Montana FOuts had ana amazing season that contributed heavily to the success of the Crimson Tide in 2021, she …

Alabama softball’s journey to a national title in Oklahoma City was abruptly cut short, but their overall season was still very impressive. Though Team 25 worked extremely well as a unit, it would not do the 2021 Crimson Tide softball season justice if individual performances were not appreciated.

Montana Fouts will be back for her senior year next season, but what she did in 2021 was nothing short of incredible.

On her birthday at the Women’s College World Series, Fouts threw a perfect game against UCLA – a team that Alabama had not beaten in the WCWS until then.

Overall, Fouts had a final record of 27-4 with an ERA of 1.61, 143 hits, 49 walks and 349 strikeouts.

For having such an amazing season, she was recognized as the Schutt Sports and NFCA pitcher of the year.
