Bleacher Report names Ravens player who could disappoint in 2022

Bleacher Report named one player on the Ravens who could underperform during the 2022 NFL season

The Baltimore Ravens have had a busy 2022 offseason following the 2021 NFL season. The team added veteran players at multiple different positions in free agency, while also having one of the better drafts throughout all of the league. However, it remains to be seen how each of Baltimore’s new contributors will perform.

In an article published by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, he named one player from every NFL team who could disappoint in 2022. The player Moton picked for the Ravens was safety Kyle Hamilton, who was the No. 14 overall pick in the draft and regarded as a phenomenal value selection.

Moton believes it will be tough for Baltimore to find a role for Hamilton this upcoming season since the team already has established players in the secondary who can cover multiple areas on the field.

“The Ravens have two proven starters at safety in Chuck Clark and Marcus Williams, who just signed a five-year, $70 million deal. They can experiment with Hamilton and use him in the slot following the release of Tavon Young, but cornerback Marlon Humphrey may move inside if Marcus Peters and Kyle Fuller line up on the boundary in nickel alignments.”

Baltimore does have a lot of depth at the safety and cornerback positions, but as the team has learned in the past, you can never have too much depth. Moton also said that Hamilton could be a rotational player if the team has injuries in the secondary or decides to keep safety Chuck Clark, who has been rumored to be in trade discussions.

“Barring injuries at safety or a trade that involves Clark, Hamilton could be a rotational slot defender in the big nickel formation and the sixth defensive back in dime packages, which would give the 14th overall pick few opportunities to make an impact in his rookie year.”

Regardless of what Baltimore does this season, Hamilton is expected by many to have a big workload. The Ravens got a steal when the safety fell to them at No. 14 overall in the draft and they will certainly look to take advantage of his incredible skillset.

What to watch for at Bears’ mandatory minicamp this week

The Bears wrap their offseason program with mandatory minicamp this week. Here are some storylines to keep an eye on:

The Chicago Bears wrapped up the voluntary portion of their offseason program following organized team activities last week. Now, the attention shifts to mandatory minicamp, which runs June 14-16.

There were a number of intriguing storylines unfolding during OTAs, including a number of which will continue into minicamp.

The Bears have three more practices before breaking for the summer ahead of training camp in late July.

Here’s what you should be keeping an eye out for at minicamp this week:

It sounds like there’s competition at nickel between Bears’ Tavon Young, Thomas Graham Jr.

The Bears are set outside at cornerback. But there’s competition at nickel cornerback brewing between Tavon Young and Thomas Graham Jr.

The Chicago Bears upgraded their cornerback room with the addition of rookie Kyler Gordon, who is expected to start on the outside opposite Jaylon Johnson.

While the Bears have certainty on the outside, the same can’t be said for the nickel cornerback position, which is currently up for grabs. Bears cornerbacks coach James Rowe indicated that there’s a competition at nickel brewing.

“There is some great competition right there,” Rowe said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “Some great players there. Each of them have a little bit different things that make them special, so I’m excited to see how that turns out for us.”

The Bears signed Tavon Young this offseason, who’s established himself as a dependable guy in the slot. He’s certainly the favorite to win the job this simmer. But it also sounds like second-year pro Thomas Graham is giving him a run for his money, as Graham has been working with the nickels.

“I love him, you know. He puts in extra time,” Rowe said of Graham. “He comes up and meets with David Overstreet, who coaches our nickels mostly. He comes up and meets up with him every morning at 7 a.m. Very smart player. He is able to handle the workload outside and inside. He is intent on being good, and we love what we see from him so far.”

Graham was a late bloomer during his rookie season, where he spent most of the year on the practice squad. But after Chicago’s entire secondary was ravaged by COVID-19, Graham started in a Week 15 prime-time game against the Minnesota Vikings. And Graham immediately had an impact, which left many excited for his potential in 2022.

While Graham isn’t going to win the starting job on the outside against the likes of Johnson and Gordon, there’s a chance for him to make an impact in the slot.

Bears 2022 NFL draft preview: Where does Chicago stand at cornerback?

We’re breaking down each position for the Bears ahead of the 2022 NFL draft. Next up is cornerback, which remains a big need.

The Chicago Bears are coming off a disappointing 2021 season that ushered in the start of a new era with general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. The hope is this Ryan-Matt duo will be able to guide the Bears  back to relevance.

With the NFL draft fast approaching, Poles still has plenty of work to do with the current roster, which features some glaring holes at positions of need. Positions like wide receiver, offensive line and defensive back remain huge concerns.

Here at Bears Wire, we’re going position by position to break down where Chicago stands entering the 2022 NFL draft. Up next is cornerback, which was a position of weakness in 2021.

Reported details of former Ravens CB Tavon Young’s deal with Bears released

The reported details of cornerback Tavon Young’s deal with the Bears were released

The Baltimore Ravens have seen many of their now-former cornerbacks depart during 2021 free agency. First, Anthony Averett went out west and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders followed by Chris Westry going to the Carolina Panthers. Now, Tavon Young has found a new football home.

It was reported on late Thursday night that Young signed with the Chicago Bears on a one-year deal. Soon after the agreement was reported, Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Focus reported the details of the contract, which come out to one-year, $1.365 million.

Getting Young at that price is an absolute steal for Chicago. It’s a low-risk, high reward move considering the veteran’s injury history, but if he can stays healthy he should far outperform the metrics of his new contract and set himself up for a nice pay day in 2023.

Details of CB Tavon Young’s contract with Bears

The Bears are signing CB Tavon Young. See the details of his contract here:

The Chicago Bears have found a new cornerback in Tavon Young, who figures to serve as the starting nickelback heading into the 2022 season.

Young fills a big hole at slot corner, which was a huge area of weakness last year. While Young has the potential to be a huge asset in the slot, there are some injury concerns. He’s torn the same ACL twice and suffered a neck injury that forced him to miss an entire season. But his upside makes him a low-risk, high-reward signing.

Details of Young’s contract have emerged, and it’s a favorable one. Young gets a one-year deal worth $1.365 million with $650,000 guaranteed, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson. Young also gets a signing bonus of $150,000 and gets a base salary of $965,000 with $500,000 fully guaranteed.

When healthy, Young has been productive in the slot. He figures to be the favorite to win the starting nickelback job heading into the 2022 season. Young joins a cornerback group that includes Jaylon Johnson, Thomas Graham Jr., Kindle Vildor and Duke Shelley.

Former Ravens CB Tavon Young reportedly joins new NFL team

Former Ravens cornerback Tavon Young reportedly has signed with a new NFL team

The Baltimore Ravens have seen multiple of their own free agents depart over the course of 2022 free agency. Cornerbacks Anthony Averett and Chris Westry are now with the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers respectively, center Bradley Bozeman also signed with Carolina, and others have found new homes as well.

On Thursday night, it was reported that former Baltimore cornerback Tavon Young signed a deal with the Chicago Bears. It marks yet another contributor in the Ravens’ 2021 secondary to move on, and Young will now go north and join the NFC.

Young was released by Baltimore back in February for cap savings despite the cornerback having a solid year out of the slot. Cornerback has shot up to be one of the major needs on the Ravens’ roster, and replacing the talent of Young on the field will be no easy task. It’s always come down to injuries with the former Temple star, and now Young will look to continue his NFL career in the Windy City.

Updated look at Bears cornerback depth after Tavon Young signing

With Tavon Young joining the Bears, here’s a look at where Chicago’s cornerback depth stands.

The Chicago Bears signed cornerback Tavon Young to a one-year deal, which makes him the first cornerback move in free agency for general manager Ryan Poles.

Young fills a big hole at the nickelback position, which was a huge area of weakness last year. While Young has the potential to be a huge asset in the slot, there are some injury concerns. He’s torn the same ACL twice and suffered a neck injury that forced him to miss an entire season.

But it’s hard to argue with the upside that Young brings. If he can stay healthy, he can bring some stability in the slot for Chicago. With a one-year deal, it’s a low-risk, high-reward signing for Poles.

With the addition of Young, here’s a look at the Bears’ cornerback depth:

Twitter reacts to Bears signing CB Tavon Young, TE Ryan Griffin

In case you were sleeping last night, the Bears added CB Tavon Young and TE Ryan Griffin. Here’s how fans are reacting to the new signings.

In case you were sleeping last night, you missed the Chicago Bears adding a couple of players to the roster.

The Bears are signing cornerback Tavon Young and tight end Ryan Griffin each to one-year deals, per Pro Football Focus’ Ari Meirov. While they’re not exactly big splashes in free agency, they’re two solid additions who are gearing up to be contributors in 2022.

Young fills a big hole at the nickelback position, which was a huge area of weakness last year. While Young has the potential to be a huge asset in the slot, there are some injury concerns.

Griffin figures to serve the role of Cole Kmet’s back-up, although he projects to be a “U” tight end while Kmet serves as the “Y” tight end. Griffin is an experienced tight end who is another weapon for quarterback Justin Fields.

For the most part, Bears fans were happy with these additions. There was a ton of excitement for the Young signing, as he’s someone who’s an absolute baller. But ultimately, both Young and Griffin present as low-risk, high-reward signings for Chicago.

Here’s how Twitter is reacting to the signings of Young and Griffin:

Report: Bears agree to one-year deal with CB Tavon Young

The Bears appear to have found their starting nickel cornerback in Tavon Young, who is signing a one-year deal.

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles seems to be burning the midnight oil when it comes to signing free agents.

The team has reportedly signed former Baltimore Ravens defensive back Tavon Young to a one-year deal on Thursday evening, according to Ari Meirov of Pro Football Focus. Young is the second reported signing of the evening, along with tight end Ryan Griffin.

Young was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft out of Temple. He quickly shot up the depth chart with a strong rookie campaign, recording two interceptions and recovering a fumble. The 28-year old has shown plenty of promise as a nickel corner, but has also dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career.

In 2017, he suffered a torn ACL during organized team activities and missed the entire year. After rebounding in 2018 that earned him a lucrative contract extension the following offseason, Young missed the entire 2019 season with a neck injury. He then tore the same ACL again during Week 2 of the 2020 season.

Young finally was healthy again in 2021 and worked his way back to having a solid season for the Ravens, earning the team’s Ed Block Courage Award before being released in March. He finished his Ravens career with 111 solo tackles, four interceptions, four sacks, and two touchdowns.

Now, he’ll have a chance to rejuvenate a Bears secondary that struggled mightily in 2021. As of now, Young projects as the team’s starting nickel cornerback.
