Josenberger joining Orioles as they select him in third round

Tavian Josenberger will join Heston Kjerstad in the Baltimore Orioles organization, who took him with the 100th overall pick Monday afternoon.

Tavian Josenberger will be joining a familiar face to Arkansas fans in the Baltimore organization.

The Orioles selected him late in the third round with the 100th overall pick on Monday.

Former Razorback Heston Kjerstad is currently having a nice year switching between the Orioles’ AAA and AA affiliates.

The slot value for Josenberger’s pick at 100 is $671,800.

His versatility should set up for long-term success with Baltimore. As a Razorback in 2023 he hit 10 home runs after only hitting three in two years as a Kansas Jayhawk, and he also stole 13 bases for Arkansas.

Arkansas to host former teammate of Tavian Josenberger

Josenberger and Jack Wagner were dynamite together at Kansas and could be at Arkansas.

It’s unclear how many holes in the lineup Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn will have to fill this offseason. But he knows it’s going to be more than a few.

So, in the way teams do nowadays, the transfer portal will hold some keys.

Arkansas is going to host Tarleton State utility player Jack Wagner next week to help fill a void. Wagner slugged almost .700 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI last year.

It was his one season at Tarleton State after he transferred from Kansas. With the Jayhawks he played with Arkansas outfielder Tavian Josenberger. Josenberger left KU for the Razorbacks and just finished his first season in Fayetteville.

Josenberger and Wagner could play again together in 2024 for the Diamond Hogs. But Josenberger is also listed as a Top-150 prospect for the MLB Draft this summer, pointing back to the issue at the top.

Also expected to leave are outfielder Jace Bohrofen, infielder Caleb Cali and will lose to outfielder Jared Wegner, first baseman Brady Slavens and infielder Harold Coll.

Check out every Razorbacks player and coach to earn All-SEC honors

Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn was named SEC Coach of the Year for the third time Monday. Four of his players earned All-SEC honors.

Arkansas has just been a different program under Dave Van Horn’s watch. And the 2023 may have been his best coaching job in 21 years at the program’s helm.

The league noticed, too, as Van Horn was named SEC Coach of the Year on Monday. Arkansas won the SEC West for the seventh time and fourth since 2018 this year. His Razorbacks will carry the No. 2-seed into this week’s SEC Tournament.

Van Horn previously won the award in 2004 and 2021. He is now one of three active coaches – joining Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin and Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan – as three-time winners.

DVH was not the only Razorbacks baseballer honored Monday. As four Arkansas players earned All-SEC marks from the league’s coaches. Check the complete list below.

Four Razorbacks were named to All-SEC teams by the league’s head coaches, led by Hagen Smith’s first-team selection at starting pitcher and All-Defensive honors. Kendall Diggs picked up second-team recognition at designated hitter, while pitcher Gage Wood and outfielder Tavian Josenberger garnered Freshman All-SEC and All-Defensive praise, respectively.

Wegner, Josenberger still out, but Diamond Hogs expect them back by SEC Tournament

Arkansas outfielders Jared Wegner and Tavian Josenberger should be back from injury before the regular season ends, Dave Van Horn said.

Arkansas’ shot at an SEC West division title is a long one. But the Razorbacks, playing for something greater, will at least have a couple of their best hitters back in time for the real stakes.

Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said Monday that outfielders Jared Wegner and Tavian Josenberger should be back in the Diamond Hogs’ lineup before the end of the season. Wegner has been out for three weeks because of a fractured thumb. Josenberger hasn’t played since April 22 because of a hamstring malady.

Van Horn spoke to the Swatter’s Club in the final luncheon of the season. He said Wegner will have pins removed from his thumb next week and that both players should be back before the end of the regular season, just time for the SEC Tournament and the subsequent NCAAs.

Wegner was Arkansas’ best hitter before the injury. He was hitting .351 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI when he was forced out of the lineup. His homer and RBI totals still lead the team.

Josenberger was hitting .322 and was second on the team in walks with 28 when he was hurt. He also leads the team in stole bases (9) and is second in runs (40).

Arkansas will play Lipscomb on Tuesday in North Little Rock. The Diamond Hogs then hit the road proper for a three-game set at Mississippi State on the weekend. The team is two games in the loss column behind LSU in the SEC West standings, but they’re also five games up on third-place Alabama, Texas A&M and Auburn.

Bad News Diamond Hogs: Josenberger officially ruled out indefinitely

More bad news for Arkansas baseball.

Good news has eluded the Diamond Hogs this past week, extending their losing streak to four games, but it’s followed with more bad news.

Tavian Joseberg has officially been ruled out indefinitely due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the Saturday game in the weekend series loss to Georgia. As a result, he didn’t travel with the team to Missouri State.

Injuries have plagued the Razorbacks all season, but it seems to have become a real problem within the last couple of weeks of games.

“We’re just trying to patch this thing together until we can get all of our guys back,” Van Horn said. “We’ve just got to win enough games to get to a regional because there’s going to be a lot of conference games played without our guys. We’ve got to find a way to win.”

The center fielder has been one of the more consistent players for the Diamond Hogs. Just three weeks ago, he was named SEC Player of the Week, putting together .571 BA, .657 SLG, 1.143 OPS with eight hits, including two doubles and two homers, and six RBI.

This makes two outfielders injured in the last two weeks, with Jared Wegner nursing a thumb injury. The Diamond Hogs host Texas A&M for a very important weekend series.

Arkansas outfielder Josenberger named SEC Player of the Week

Josenberger is the third Arkansas player to pick an SEC award this year.

With an OPS over 1.000 in four games, Tavian Josenberger was a pretty easy pick for SEC Player of the Week.

The Arkansas outfielder, in his first season with the Diamond Hogs after transferring from Kansas, earned the honor with a massive quadruplet of games. Josenberger slashed .571/.657/1.143 with eight hits, two of which were doubles and two of which were home runs and six RBI.

Arkansas went 3-1 with a series win over Alabama and a one-off victory over Omaha.

Josenberger is third on the team in batting with an average .362 and he leads the team in base-hits and stole bases with 38 and seven, respectively.

The junior is third Arkansas player to earn a weekly award from the SEC this year. His fellow outfielder, Jared Wegner, earned the same honor back on February 24.

Arkansas hosts Arkansas State in Fayetteville on Tuesday before a three-game set at Ole Miss on the weekend.

Diamond Hogs drop 16, drop Omaha to get back to winning ways

Tavian Josenberger and Kendall Diggs were both perfect at the plate for the Diamond Hogs.

Tuesday provided the sort of game the Arkansas baseball team needed.

The sixth-ranked Diamond Hogs weren’t feeling too down in the dumps or anything. They were after all, sixth in the country. But coming off a series loss to LSU on the weekend, one that saw Arkansas outplayed for most of it, the Razorbacks could have used a little pick-me-up.

Omaha provided one as Dave Van Horn’s bunch was back its winning ways with a 16-3 win over the Mavericks from Baum-Walker Stadium.

Arkansas scored runs in each of the first four innings, including a five in the second and seven in the third, to run-rule Omaha in just seven frames. Diamond Hogs hitters reached base 24 times via hit, walk or bean-ball and the pitchers didn’t allow a single Mavericks hit over the final five innings.

Tavian Josenberger had the best individual day for Arkansas, going 2 for 2 from the leadoff spot with two walks, a home run, three runs and three RBI. Kendall Diggs also went 3 for 3 with a walk, three runs and two RBI.

Omaha scored three runs off Arkansas starter Ben Bybee, who managed just two-plus innings. Gage Wood, Ben McLaughlin, Christian Foutch and Parker Coil finished things off.

Arkansas has a short break before Alabama visits Fayetteville for a three-game set starting on Friday.

Arkansas Baseball adds two from transfer portal

Arkansas Baseball landed two more transfers on Saturday, both with proven potential.

Over the last week, the Transfer Portal appeared to be a mortal enemy of Arkansas Baseball, as ten players announced their intentions to enter the portal since the Razorbacks’ trip to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina in the Super Regionals.

However, the pendulum seems to be swinging towards Arkansas again, as they landed two prospects from the portal on Saturday, bringing their weekend commitment list to three over the weekend.

The first commit of the day was from [autotag]Koty Frank[/autotag], a right-handed pitcher from the University of Nebraska. During his senior season for the Cornhuskers, Frank made 14 appearances with seven starts. Despite only getting 59.0 innings of work, he was second on the team with 70 strikeouts, while allowing the least amount of hits (54) by a pitcher who recorded more than 40 innings on the mound.

As many transfers do, Frank took to Twitter to announce his commitment to Arkansas. In the tweet, he thanked God, his coaches, family, and friends for their roles in the transfer process.

Frank is a 6-2, 210-pound pitcher from Tushka, Okla. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.

The second commit of the day comes from the Big 12. [autotag]Tavian Josenberger[/autotag], a utility player from Kansas City, announced that he will be transferring to Arkansas from Kansas, where he spent his first two collegiate seasons.

Josenberger is listed as an IF/OF, but has the most experience playing second base, where he started 52 games last season for the Jayhawks. In 104 total games at Kansas, Josenberger hit .296 with three home runs, 54 RBI, and 21 doubles.

At the plate, Josenberger recorded multiple hits in 15 games, and even had a 12-game hitting streak during his sophomore season in 2022. His only two home runs of the season came in the same game against Charleston Southern on March 9, where he hit those home runs from both sides of the plate.

Josenberger’s draft stock is high was well, as he is ranked as a top-15 prospect by Baseball America, Perfect Game, and D1Baseball, ranking as high as No. 6. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Frank and Josenberger are the second and third commits of the weekend for Arkansas. On Friday, junior college transfer [autotag]Caleb Cali[/autotag] announced that he has intentions to come to Arkansas. He slashed .438/.533/.826 this past spring with 17 home runs, 22 doubles, six triples and 77 RBIs, and is projected to be a first baseman for the Razorbacks.
