Report: Taurean Prince tests positive for coronavirus, ruled out

The Brooklyn Nets need help and fast. They’re now down seven players heading into the NBA’s restart of the 2019-20 season.

The Brooklyn Nets have lost yet another player — their seventh — ahead of the NBA’s restart of the 2019-20 season.

Spencer Dinwiddie became No. 6, joining Kevin Durant (right Achillies), Kyrie Irving (right shoulder), Nic Claxton (left shoulder), Wilson Chandler (elected to opt-out) and DeAndre Jordan (elected to opt-out after testing positive for COVID-19), when he tested positive for COVID-19 again, and the Nets, team doctors and the point guard decided on Tuesday it wasn’t best for him to forgo part in the Disney bubble.

But Dinwiddie is not the latest member of the Nets to be sidelined.

Brooklyn will now be without Taurean Prince, as well. According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, Prince has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. As a result, the Nets forward has been ruled out of the NBA’s restart.

Taurean Prince supports Davis Bertans’ decision to sit out NBA’s restart

Davis Bertans has decided he will not play for the Washington Wizards if the NBA resumes 2019-20 at Disney World in late July.

With Davis Bertans out for the remainder of 2019-20, the Washington Wizards are going to have a much tougher time forcing a play-in game against either the Brooklyn Nets or Orlando Magic — nevermind slide into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, or even the seventh.

But while this is a decision that hurts the Wizards playoff chances, it’s also a safe move for Bertans.

The Latvian Laser is a free agent after this season. Being one of the league’s best 3-point shooters, Bertans could fetch a big payday — maybe even more so than Brooklyn’s Joe Harris. Having dealt with two ACL injuries in the past, Bertans participating in the league’s restart may put the sharpshooter at greater risk of injury.

Among those who support Bertans’ decision is Nets forward Taurean Prince, who wrote on Twitter:

Smart play. Secure ya future! Nothing is promised in this cruel world we live in.

Spencer Dinwiddie had something to say about Bertans’ decision, as well. Though, the Brooklyn guard was looking more at the possible ripple effect:

But what happens when they lock us out and try to drop the cap to 90M in spite of all the revenue we regained in Orlando? I’m assuming FA gets dicey. But then, So would… *gasp* … my extension

Caris LeVert, Taurean Prince defend Kyrie Irving following report on Nets group chat

Kyrie Irving’s Brooklyn Nets teammates have come to his defense after information from the team’s group text was leaked.

Following the report which indicated Kyrie Irving “proposed that players could start their own league” and that he was urging his Brooklyn teammates to not travel to Disney World to finish out the remainder of the 2019-20 season in Orlando, Nets players have come to his defense.

Both Taurean Prince and Caris LeVert refuted Bleacher Report’s Instagram post on the report:

Theo Pinson also shared a similar sentiment in response to the Instagram post, in addition to his remarks about the original report from Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News on Twitter.

Chris Chiozza also weighed in on Twitter, writing, “Y’all just making up [expletive] about my guy now… cut the cap y’all really getting annoying.’

Bleacher Report‘s Taylor Rooks then reported Irving “never stated that the Nets should begin their own league in response to the bubble,” and after Bondy’s report came out, the point guard left the team group chat.

Amidst the reactions on social media, Bondy clarified Irving’s proposal is “not necessarily in response to the bubble situation,” but stood by his report that the Nets point guard has brought up the subject of players starting their own league to his teammates before.

Taurean Prince tweets what’s on every Nets fans’ mind

Brooklyn hasn’t played a game since March 10, but that was in Los Angeles. It’s bee longer since the Nets were last at Barclays Center.

Like the rest of the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets haven’t played in a month and a half. Their last game in Los Angeles came on March 10, when Spencer Dinwiddie hit the game-winning bucket against the LeBron James-led Lakers — the same franchise the Nets point guard grew up loving.

But it’s been slightly longer since the Nets played at home in Brooklyn.

The last time the Nets hosted at Barclays Center was March 8th, with the Chicago Bulls playing visitor. That was also the first game in which Jacque Vaughn served as interim head coach. Brooklyn also won that contest.

While it may feel like it’s been an eternity for fans since they last saw a game, Nets players are missing playing for the crowd, too. Especially Taurean Prince, who said as much on Twitter on Tuesday night:

With no clear return date set, it remains unclear when Prince and the Nets will get to suit up for their fans in Brooklyn next.

Taurean Prince shares his hobby off the court with fans for first time

After waiting a decade to do so, Taurean Prince has finally shown fans what he does with his time, besides “eat, sleep, and breathe hoops.”

Taurean Prince has shared a lot of himself since the start of the 2019-20 season.

Well before the NBA went on hiatus due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, the Brooklyn Nets forward talked about his childhood — specifically, how he grew up homeless.

“Everybody has their story, whether it’s as treacherous as mine was or as easy as theirs might have been,” Prince told Brian Lewis of the New York Post in November. “Everybody grows in different ways throughout different situations, and I’m just happy I was able to come out on the brighter side of that and be able to make a way for my family and my kids.”

But Prince doesn’t want to dwell on his past. Instead, he’s more interested in the here and now. And right now, the Nets forward is stuck at home like the rest of the United States. While that’s not ideal for his game, it does allow Prince to spend more time enjoying his hobby:

Now that everyone knows what Prince does in his spare time, maybe the Nets should talk to their forward about putting something together for their pregame warm-up routine.

Nets win first game under Jacque Vaughn

Jacque Vaughn decided to start DeAndre Jordan over Jarrett Allen on Sunday, and both responded well in the Brooklyn Nets’ win.

Jacque Vaughn’s first move as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets was a bit surprising — he elected to start DeAndre Jordan over Jarrett Allen.

Although the veteran big man has been more impactful of late, Allen has been a staple in the Nets’ starting lineup since last season.

Jordan responded by grabbing 15 rebounds, scoring 11 points and blocking three shots in his 29 minutes of action. Allen also did well with his 19 minutes of work, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds and a blocked shot.

Both of the Nets big men helped their teammates out-rebound the Bulls 50-31, en route to a 110-107 Nets win, Jacque Vaughn’s first as Nets head coach.

Spencer Dinwiddie led the Nets in scoring with 24 points. Joe Harris and Caris LeVert were right behind him with 23 points apiece.

Harris went 3-for-7 from deep and LeVert went 4-for-6. Dinwiddie knocked down 14 of his 15 free-throw attempts.

Taurean Prince came off the bench again while Wilson Chandler started. Prince scored seven points and grabbed nine boards.

Caris LeVert records first triple-double in Nets’ 139-120 win

Caris LeVert and his Brooklyn Nets teammates responded to Wednesday’s loss with a big win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.

Caris LeVert may have had the most impressive night of any Nets player on Friday, but he certainly wasn’t the only one who played well in Brooklyn’s 139-120 win over the San Antonio Spurs at Barclays Center.

The Nets offensive explosion started in the first quarter. Brooklyn set a season-high for first quarter with 41 on Friday. They then set a season-high for third quarter points, scoring 45 against the Spurs. Factor in their 34 second quarter points and the Nets set a franchise record with 120 points through the first third quarter.

In the process, Caris LeVert registered the first triple-double of his NBA career, finishing with 27 points on 9-for-16 shooting (3-for-5 from deep), 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

LeVert is the 27th player in Nets history to log a triple-double. He’s only the third player to do so for Brooklyn — the other two are Kyrie Irving and D’Angelo Russell.

Three of Brooklyn’s other four starters finished in double figures: Joe Harris (20), Spencer Dinwiddie (19) and Jarrett Allen (12).

Taurean Prince came off the bench and finished with 13 points, as did Chris Chiozza. DeAndre Jordan registered a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot led all Nets reserves with 19 points.

Nets embarrassed by Grizzlies 118-79

The Brooklyn Nets could not carry the momentum from their win in Boston into Wednesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Brooklyn was on the wrong end of a blowout at Barclays Center just one night after the Nets had their most impressive win of the 2019-20 season. After losing the first quarter 23-22, Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies took over and blew out the Nets 118-79.

The Nets had plenty of problems in the loss, but one glaring issue was their shooting. Brooklyn shot 33.3% from the floor and an abysmal 16.7% from 3-point territory.

The Nets were also out-rebounded 59-42.

After putting up 51 points against the Celtics in Boston on Tuesday, Caris LeVert scored 14 points on a rough 6-for-19 shooting (0-for-5 from 3-point range).

Taurean Prince scored 15 points and also went 6-for-19 from the floor (2-for-8 from deep). Joe Harris (13) was the only other Nets starter to finish in double figures. Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen scored four and six points respectively.

Chris Chiozza had himself a career night. He reached double figures (14) for the first time in his NBA career. He went 5-for-8 from the floor (2-for-4 from deep).

Nets drop fourth straight with 116-113 loss to Heat

The Brooklyn Nets had a chance to win on their final possession in Miami, but the Heat wound up victorious.

For the third time in their last four games, the Brooklyn Nets had a heartbreaking loss — the exception being the blowout in Atlanta.

Against the Orlando Magic on Monday, the Nets had a chance to win on the final possession. Same thing happened against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.

After getting blown out by the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, the Nets had an opportunity to steal a win in Miami on the final possession, but Brooklyn struggled to run a play effectively and Spencer Dinwiddie threw an errant pass into the stands. Following a foul on the ensuing possession, the Heat were able to finish things off their 116-113 win.

Dinwiddie logged another double-double, finishing with a team-high 25 points and 12 assists.

Jarrett Allen also finished with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Joe Harris scored 20 points and drilled 5 of his 9 3-point attempts.

Caris LeVert (15 points) and Taurean Prince (10) both finished in double figures, as well.

Wilson Chandler chipped in 11 points off the bench, and DeAndre Jordan grabbed 10 boards.

Hawks hand Nets stunning 141-118 loss

Trae Young and John Collins went to town against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.

The Brooklyn Nets had a prime chance to right the ship with a matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. Yet, with just over three minutes left in the game, Kenny Atkinson sent his reserves out on the floor with the team trailing by double digits.

In the end, the Nets lost 141-118, snapping their eight-game winning streak against the Hawks. With the loss, the Orlando Magic take control of the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference and the Nets drop to No. 8, where they lead the ninth-seeded Washington Wizards by 4.5 games. (Washington’s game against the Utah Jazz on Friday was still in progress at the conclusion of Brooklyn’s game.)

The Nets have now lost three games in a row.

Spencer Dinwiddie led the Nets in scoring with 24 points on 6-for-16 shooting (4-for-9 from deep, 8-for-8 at the free-throw line). He also had 13 assists.

Joe Harris (18), Caris LeVert (18) and Taurean Prince (16) each finished in double figures, as well.

Jarrett Allen led the Nets with nine rebounds while DeAndre Jordan had eight off the bench. Jordan also scored nine points. Allen only scored five on 2-for-2 shooting (1-for-3 at the line).

The Nets play the Heat in Miami on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
