Florida State starting QB enters transfer portal ahead of Orange Bowl

Florida State’s roster continues to take hits ahead of the Orange Bowl matchup versus No. 6 Georgia on Saturday.

The latest loss for the No. 5 Seminoles is starting quarterback Tate Rodemaker, who announced his decision to opt-out of the game and enter the transfer portal on Monday. The Seminoles are also without star quarterback Jordan Travis, who is injured.

That leaves FSU with freshman Brock Glenn at quarterback. The former four-star prospect out of Covington, Tennessee, threw for 55 yards in the ACC Championship win over Louisville after replacing Rodemaker due to injury.

Rodemaker was expected to be cleared to take on the Bulldogs, but Glenn will make his second career start in Miami instead.

Including opt-outs and transfers, the Seminoles are down most of their key contributors that helped them to a 13-0 regular season and ACC crown.

Kickoff from Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium is set for 4 p.m. ET, televised on ESPN.

Florida State freshman Brock Glenn could start the ACC title game

The Florida State Seminoles could have to go with a true freshman quarterback in the ACC title game.

The Florida State Seminoles are set to take on the Louisville Cardinals in the ACC title game in Charlotte.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, the starting quarterback was Jordan Travis. Due to an injury suffered against North Alabama, Tate Rodemaker would have to take over the starting role heading into the annual rivalry matchup against Florida.

Rodemaker would have to leave the game due to a hit by a pair of Gators defenders. He would only miss 55 seconds of the game before he would return to lead the Seminoles to victory over Florida, 24-15. He finished the game with 134 yards passing while completing 12 of 25 pass attempts.

Recent reports indicate that Rodemaker is a game-time decision with a head injury. If he is unable to go, true freshman Brock Glenn will make his first start in the conference championship.

Glenn was a four-star quarterback prospect that was originally committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes before flipping to Florida State. This season he has seen very little live-game action.

Glenn has thrown four passes and one rushing touchdown on four attempts. His first start could come against the No. 1 red zone scoring defense in the ACC.

Florida State names starting QB for Notre Dame game

After leading the Seminoles to five straight touchdowns on Saturday, Florida State has an announced yet another starting quarterback.

When No. 5 Notre Dame hosts Florida State on Saturday night the Irish will be taking on a team that will be featuring their third starting quarterback already, in just fourth game for the Seminoles this fall.

Announced by Florida State head coach Mike Norvell on Monday, red-shirt sophomore Jordan Travis will get the start for Florida State after coming off the bench to help guide the Seminoles to their first victory of the year last week, a 41-24 win over Jacksonville State.

Travis replaced freshman Tate Rodemaker in that contest after Rodemaker struggled early as Jacksonville State jumped out to an unlikely 14-0 lead at Doak Walker Stadium.

Travis then led Florida State on five straight touchdown drives, going 12 of 17 passing for 210 yards and a touchdown along the way while also rushing for 48 yards and an additional score himself.

James Blackmon, who started for Florida State the last time the Seminoles and Irish played back in 2018, started the season as the Seminoles starting signal caller but was replaced after their debacle in Miami.

“Jordan has really done a nice job; you can tell the work he did during quarantine and a lot of things he was able to do working on his own that was able to carry over,” Norvell said. “We’re excited about having him back, and some of the things he’s been able to do early in the season, even with limited repetition, speaks well to where his continued development can go and what he can be.”

For what it’s worth, Travis was graded as a three-star prospect out of The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach.  Originally a Louisville enrollee, Travis transfered to Florida State following the 2018 regular season.
