Marshawn Lynch to speak at Princeton’s Class Day ceremony

Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has been selected as the Class Day speaker at Princeton University’s graduation.

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is known as a lot of things: elite football player, philanthropist, entrepreneur, actor, and now – public speaker.

Lynch’s past public speaking endeavors have been noted primarily for their brevity, as he has made it clear conversing with the media is not his cup of tea.

When he does speak, he often leaves the listeners with extremely memorable sound bites, including his most recent “take care of yo’ chicken” advice to younger players, which Lynch has now trademarked and branded with his clothing line, Beast Mode Apparel.

Lynch’s next speaking event won’t be to the NFL’s young talent, but rather the 2020 graduating class at Princeton University, one of America’s most prestigious colleges.

“Mr. Lynch’s sustained professional excellence is not the only reason we are excited to have him serve as our Class Day speaker,” said a few of the Class Day co-chairs. “His substantive work in communities stands alongside his on-field success…From his stops in the Bay Area, to Buffalo, to Seattle, Mr. Lynch has always prioritized community engagement and empowerment by leveraging his prominence as a professional athlete to promote opportunities for civic engagement and social justice.”

No word on if Lynch’s financial advice will be the same with Princeton grads as it was to the rest of the NFL – but you can bet it will be entertaining nonetheless.

Marshawn Lynch shows off his “chicken” at Holiday Bowl event

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch had fun with the media in San Diego at an event for the Holiday Bowl, which he played in back in 2006.

It’s always a story when former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is behind a microphone.

Speaking to the press in San Diego at a Holiday Bowl event, Lynch joked with reporters, including NBC San Diego sports anchor Darnay Tripp, about his “chicken” – a slang term for money that Lynch made famous after Seattle’s loss to the Packers in the NFC divisional round.

Lynch showed reporters his “chicken” all while rocking a “take care of yo chicken” shirt from his clothing line, Beast Mode Apparel.

Lynch trademarked the iconic phrase just after uttering it as a message to young NFL players, urging them to save money so they can enjoy retirement.

Lynch starred in the Holiday Bowl back in 2006, rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns in Cal’s dominant 45-10 win over Texas A&M.

He was asked to recall his favorite memory from the contest, and in a rare moment of candidness with the media, Lynch shared how important it was for him to let his backup, former Seahawks running back Justin Forsett, come in and share in the glory alongside him.

Forsett rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown in the contest.

Lynch played in three games for the Seahawks in 2019, returning around Christmas-time and rushing for four touchdowns, including three in the playoffs.

It is unclear if he plans to continue his playing career, or if he will find his way back to Seattle, but for now we can enjoy his presence with the media, whenever it may occur.

Marshawn Lynch filed a trademark for ‘Take care of yo’ chicken’

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has filed a trademark for the phrase ‘take care of yo’ chicken’ to be put on apparel.

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch used what may be his final press conference as a player to spread a message to younger players about the importance of taking care of yourself, mentally and financially.

It appears Beast Mode is taking his own advice to heart, as the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s online database shows Lynch filed for a trademark of the phrase “TAKE CARE OF YO’ CHICKEN”.

The trademark, according to the filing, would apply primarily to clothing. Lynch already has his own clothing line, Beast Mode Apparel, and he has already begun selling clothing with ‘take care of yo’ chicken’ and ‘take care of yo’ mentals’ written on them.

Lynch’s now famous phrase was uttered after Seattle’s loss to the Packers in the NFC Divisional round, as a way to encourage young players to be smart with their money – chicken is a slang term for money.

It’s unclear if Lynch, who rushed for 67 yards on 30 carries for four touchdowns in three games with Seattle, is planning to return for another NFL season or if he has officially reached the end of his playing career.

Regardless, he has set himself up well financially, and his advice – however uniquely delivered – is worth noting for all younger NFL players.
