Dwight Howard did the Taiwan league 3-point contest and was … not that bad?

We saw worse in the NBA 3-point contest.

If you’ve been wondering what Dwight Howard is up to lately, the eight-time NBA All-Star is still hooping, playing basketball in Taiwan’s T1 League. And he’s been looking like his old dominant self over there.

Playing for the Taoyuan Leopards, Howard is averaging 25.6 points, according to asia-basket.com, and he was named the T1’s inaugural All-Star Game MVP after posting 37 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in Tuesday’s game.

But the real buzz around Howard right now is from his participation in the T1 3-point contest. Because, ya know, it’s Dwight Howard. He only made 22 threes on 22% shooting during his entire 18-year NBA career.

But he wasn’t as bad as you might expect…

Alright, so no, he didn’t do great either. Howard was so slow, and some of his misses were real clankers. But he still finished with 15 points, a respectable number that might’ve been higher if he moved a little faster. It also would’ve been better than two NBA players in their contest a couple weeks ago — Julius Randle (13) and Kevin Huerter (8).

Howard’s showing was actually a continuation of how his NBA career evolved before his final season in 2022. He made 37% of his threes (13-of-35) over his final two seasons with the Sixers and Lakers.

So shoutout to him for not being afraid to put that new shooting stroke on display and give those fans a show.

“It’s my first game in a long time where I’ve got a chance to shoot the ball, get to touch it and stuff like that. I really appreciate my coach and the rest of my teammates for just trusting me,” Howard said. “The first game was a little nervous, just wanted to make sure I got a lot of shots up and was aggressive, and my teammates trusted me, but I also trusted them,” he said. -via Focus Taiwan / November 19, 2022
Though the Leopards trailed most of the game, the home fans never got down and cheered for Howard whenever he was on the court. “There’s always four quarters in a game, no matter what’s going on. You always have a chance to come back and win if you just stick together and believe. And in the second half we believed we were going to come back and win the game,” Howard said. -via Focus Taiwan / November 19, 2022

World’s first certified quiet trail announced in Taiwan

Tread softly through this serene land.

Calm your mind at the world’s first certified quiet hiking trail. What is a certified quiet trail? As the name suggests, these trails are nearly-silent natural environments. Recently, the non-profit organization Quiet Parks International (QPI) named Cuifeng Lake Circular Trail in Taiwan the world’s first certified quiet hiking trail. With scientific recordings of the trail not exceeding 25 decibels, the area earned QPI’s certified quiet trail designation on July 18, 2022.

Silent visitors can explore the secrets that keep this location so serene. Outside Taiwan’s Yilan county, Cuifeng Lake Circular Trail winds through a cypress forest and traces the edges of Cuifeng Lake. A lush carpet of green moss both adds to the area’s beauty and serves as “a layer of natural sound-absorbing foam,” according to QPI.

“As a result,” QPI explains on its website, “[the trail] feels like a natural audio control room. Far from the hubbub of human-caused noise, the lowest measured volume is fewer than 25 decibels, which is almost silent.”

On July 18 (World Listening Day), QPI held a certification ceremony for the trail. The Hagaparis tribe of the Atayal People, a Taiwanese Indigenous group from Nan’ao Township, began the ceremony with prayers and performances. As a traditional hunting area, Cuifeng Lake’s forest remains important to the Hagaparis.

“For a densely populated island to have the world’s first certified ‘Quiet Trail’ carries special meaning for Taiwan,” Lin Hua-ching, director of the Forestry Bureau, told CNN Travel.

Additional quiet trails may be on the way as QPI pursues its commitment to “saving quiet for the benefit of all life.” Currently, the Los Angeles-based organization is evaluating locations such as Niobrara Wild & Scenic River in Nebraska and Finnhamnen, Kvarken Archipelago in Finland for quiet trail certification. People from all over the world can also nominate quiet places via the QPI website.

Freedom went on to say that he found Tsai and the people of Taiwan “amazing” for standing against China even when under a considerable amount of political pressure, and expressed a palpable desire to answer Tsai’s invitation to visit Taiwan. He said that he not only anticipates participating in basketball camps and trying foods which Tsai recommended in her Twitter message, he is also looking forward to sitting down with Tsai to have a face-to-face conversation.

Ty Lawson to play in Taiwan?

Veteran former NBA point guard Ty Lawson has reportedly reached a deal to play for the Taichung Wagor Suns of basketball’s professional T1 LEAGUE. If Lawson does come to play in Taiwan, it will make him one of the biggest and most experienced NBA stars to ever play professional basketball in Taiwan, next to O.J. Mayo, who played for the Taipei Fubon Braves in the regional ASEAN Basketball League’s 2019-2020 season.
