Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner is Seattle’s Peak Performer in loss to Rams

For his impressive performance in the wild-card round loss to the Rams, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is the team’s Peak Performer.

There is a reason Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner was named to the Associated Press’ All-Pro first team this week and is assuredly headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when his career is over. He is one of the best defensive players to ever put on a Seahawks uniform.

Despite Seattle playing from behind against Los Angeles in the wild-card contest, Wagner never took his foot off the gas. Wagner finished the day leading the team in tackles with 16 total and one tackle for loss. Wagner also logged one quarterback hit and one sack.

At one point near the end of the matchup, Wagner pulled up limping but was able to play through the pain.

For his impressive efforts Saturday afternoon against the Los Angeles Rams, Wagner is the Seahawks Wire’s Peak Performer of the game.

Jamal Adams shines in Week 12 in best game yet as a Seahawk

Safety Jamal Adams had his best game yet as a Seahawk in Week 12 against the Philadelphia Eagles, leading all Seattle defenders.

The Seattle Seahawks came away with a road win in Philadelphia Monday night, beating the Eagles in prime time to the tune of 23-17. Lots of credit goes to the defense, and safety Jamal Adams in particular, for getting the job done.

“It was his best game and this was the best he’s felt,” coach Pete Carroll said during his interview on 710 ESPN Seattle Tuesday morning. “He just was able to play with his right shoulder and it just made a difference. He was balanced out in his tackling and he fit into things really well. He was really aggressive in the backfield on a number of runs and he was just really having fun playing football. He had a blast tonight.”

Adams finished the night as the Seahawks defensive leader, logging nine tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack.

“This is just an indication of where it’s going and he’s going to continue to get better, too,” Carroll continued. “And that’s really exciting.”

Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner named NFC Defensive Player of Week 8

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner has been named the NFC Defensive Player of Week 8 for his impressive outing against San Francisco.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner had himself a ballgame last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers and for his impressive efforts, he has been named the NFC’s Defensive Player of Week 8.

Seattle’s defense as a whole showed great improvement in the win over the 49ers but Wagner played himself played at a different level. On the day, Wagner led the team in tackles with 11, also tallying two sacks, four quarterback hits and three tackles for loss.

Before the matchup, Wagner had given his squad a pep talk of sorts, demanding they step up to the task at hand.

“I feel like as the leader of the defense, you have to address the team, you have to bring the issues to light and get everyone on the same page and talk about discipline and consistency,” Wagner explained Sunday. “That’s kind of what we did. Everybody locked in this week. We had a great practice, a great week and it showed in the game.”

This is just Wagner’s second NFC Defensive Player of the Week award over his career – the first he also earned against the 49ers in 2018.

Jon Gruden talks up Demario Davis, ‘the guy that really stirs the drink’

New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis was praised by Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who described the captain as a playmaker.

Demario Davis emerged as one of the NFL’s best three-down linebackers in 2019, and he picked up right where he left off in 2020. The New Orleans Saints captain has made plays in coverage, in run defense, and as a blitzing pass rusher, and it’s built up a healthy level of respect from his upcoming opponent.

Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden gushed over Davis when previewing the matchup, telling NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill: “The guy that really stirs the drink is 56. Demario Davis, he’s as good of a blitzing linebacker as I’ve seen. He is pelting running backs. This guy is an outstanding collision player, man.”

Describing Davis as “an outstanding collision player” is perfection. The first-team All-Pro really cleaned up his tackling in 2019, notching 111 combined tackles against just five misses (a rate of 4.3%, per Pro Football Reference). Last year, he led the Saints defense with 53 tackles within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. In Week 1, he ranked second-best with four such tackles (behind breakout safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who had six).

And Gruden is right to point out Davis being productive on blitzes. PFR credited him with as many quarterback pressures last year (15) as defensive tackle David Onyemata, trailing defensive ends Cameron Jordan (49), Marcus Davenport (26), and Trey Hendrickson (17). That’s rare production out of an off-the-ball linebacker.

But the Saints will need Davis at his best in Week 2. They’re matched up with Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs, who led the league in missed tackles forced in Week 1 while carrying the ball 25 times for 93 yards and scoring three touchdown runs. Expect Davis to line up against Jacobs throughout the game; the running back was also targeted six times as a receiver, catching four passes to gain 46 yards through the air.

That’s a tough challenge, but that’s life in the NFL. Davis has played a lot of games against many other talented players. This should be no different for him.

Bobby Wagner makes Forbes’ 30 under 30 list in sports category

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner was named to Forbes’ 30 under 30 list in the sports category, thanks to strong financial literacy.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner was recognized by popular business magazine “Forbes” on its list of 30 sports figures under the age of 30.

Wagner has always prioritized being financially savvy, and he has always encouraged other athletes to learn those skills as well.

“We should take the time to learn and understand how to make money work for us,” Wagner told Forbes. “Versus working for money.”

Wagner has invested in a handful of startups, including Denali Therapeutics and the Cultural Leadership Fund. He also negotiated his own contract extension, a three-year, $54 million dollar pact that made him the highest-paid inside linebacker of all-time.

Wagner is using a lot of that money to continue investing and growing his business acumen, but he’s also very willing to give back to his community – as evidenced by his recent decision to buy groceries for low-income families at a Safeway in West Seattle last month.

Wagner will look to build on his strong 2019 season when the 10-2 Seahawks take on the Rams in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
