T.J. Oshie’s emotional hat trick after dad’s death should be the story from Capitals-Rangers

This is what we should be talking about.

We shouldn’t be focused on the brawl-filled portions of the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals game that was a result of Tom Wilson’s dangerous actions from the previous matchup that resulted in only a fine.

Let’s talk instead about T.J. Oshie, the Caps forward who lost his father Tim — known to many as “Coach” — on Tuesday. His dad had Alzheimer’s and was there in 2018 with T.J. when Oshie and his teammates raised the Stanley Cup.

“My dad, he doesn’t remember a lot of stuff these days,” Oshie said at the time. “He remembers enough, but he’s here tonight, and this one will stick with him forever.”

Oshie returned to the ice on Wednesday, and in the midst of all the fisticuffs, he scored a hat trick that had the whole team celebrating and comforting him:
