Eagles’ Shane Steichen to have 2nd head coaching interview with Colts on Saturday

Shane Steichen appears to be a favorite coaching vacancy in Indianapolis and the Eagles’ offensive coordinator will have his second interview with the Colts on Saturday

The Eagles are using the Super Bowl bye week to install and complete their game plan, allowing for Shane Steichen to conduct his second interview with Indianapolis.

According to Adam Schefter, Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator will have his second interview for the Colts’ head coaching vacancy on Saturday.

Steichen was named one of seven finalists after upgrading the Birds’ offensive approach late last season.

Steichen has overseen the Eagles’ offensive explosion since taking over play-calling duties during the 2021 season and has a good reputation for a run-centric approach to the offense while helping develop Chargers star signal caller, Justin Herbert.

Steichen has been at the helm of Jalen Hurts’ MVP candidacy, Miles Sanders logging his first 1,000-yard rushing season, along with two 1,000-yard receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Alabama coach Nick Saban talks Jalen Hurts’ committment and his journey to the Super Bowl

Alabama head coach Nick Saban says he’s proud of Eagles QB Jalen Hurts and talks about his journey to the Super Bowl

In a move that can only be described as shocking at the time, the Philadelphia Eagles selected former Alabama and Oklahoma star quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Hurts had a historic freshman season under head coach Nick Saban, throwing for 2,780 yards and 23 touchdowns with nine interceptions. In what should have been a precursor for the NFL, Hurts rushed for a total of 954 yards and 13 touchdowns, breaking the school single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback, surpassing Steadman Shealy’s previous record of 791 yards.

Hurts was benched at halftime of the 2018 CFP championship game in favor of Tagovailoa with the Crimson Tide trailing 13-0, and Tagovailoa led a comeback in a 26-23 overtime thriller.

Hurts spent most of his junior season as a backup to Tagovailoa and helped the Crimson Tide reach the CFP championship game for the fourth consecutive season in relief of Tua.

The All-Pro quarterback eventually transferred to Oklahoma for his senior season, where he followed back-to-back Heisman Trophy winners in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

Hurts went on to become a Heisman Finalist and the rest is history.

With Philadelphia now in the Super Bowl, legendary head coach Nick Saban talked to the 33rd Team about his former quarterback’s commitment to the game and his journey to stardom.

In 15 games played this season, Hurts completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He had a passer rating of 101.5 while rushing for 760 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns.

The Eagles were 14-1 with Hurts as a starter during the regular season and were 0-2 during his time out with a shoulder injury.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Josh Sills facing criminal indictment ahead of Super Bowl LVll matchup against Kansas City Chiefs

NFL teams work hard to avoid distractions ahead of the Super Bowl and the Eagles just got hit with some major news.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, undrafted rookie free agent Josh Sills has been indicted on rape and kidnapping charges stemming from a 2019 incident.

Sills was charged in Ohio with raping a woman in December 2019, prosecutors announced on Wednesday.

The incident was immediately reported to the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, and a “detailed investigation” followed, according to a statement from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, which is heading the investigation.

The case was presented to a grand jury, which recommended the charges.

Sills attended West Virginia and Oklahoma State during his college career and appeared in just one regular season game against the Cardinals on Oct. 9.

The Eagles have yet to publicly comment on the charges, and Sills is due in court on Feb. 16.
