Suns at Wizards picks and predictions

Prediction

Suns 117, Wizards 110

Moneyline

I’ll take the SUNS (-135) on the road after they defeated the Grizzlies Tuesday. While the Wizards won on Tuesday as well, it’s been tough to trust them even with G Bradley Beal in the lineup.

Against the spread

It remains to be seen if G Devin Booker will return for the Suns Wednesday after he missed Tuesday with a groin injury. Even with his status unknown, SUNS -2.5 (-110) is an intriguing wager with G Chris Paul, F Mikal Bridges, and C Deandre Ayton still available.

The Suns are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings with the Wizards and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road meetings against the Wizards.

Over/Under

OVER 223.5 (-112) is where I’m leaning in this game regardless of Booker’s status. The Suns have put up 125 points in back-to-back games and those came against solid defensive teams in the Grizzlies and the Denver Nuggets.

The Suns have hit the Over in 8 of their last 9 games against a team with a winning home record. The Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these sides in Washington and 7-2 in the last 9 meetings overall.

Suns at Wizards odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Suns 115, Wizards 103

Money line

PASS on the money line.

The Wizards are missing their top player while the Suns, aside from missing Payne, are as healthy as they can be. Phoenix has the league’s best road record at 19-5 and has not lost consecutive games since December 25-27. The Suns also have not lost two consecutive road games since dropping games to the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers Dec. 3 and Dec. 13.

It still isn’t worth betting nearly five times your potential return, and you can get better values from the spread and the total.

Against the spread

The Suns are 28-23 ATS overall this season and 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games. They perform well against the spread on the road, where they are 15-9 ATS.

The Wizards are 20-30-1 ATS on the season but 12-13 ATS at home. They have covered the spread only twice in their last 10 games.

They have G Kyle Kuzma stepping up in Beal’s absence, but a healthy Suns team is too deep for the Wizards to handle. G Devin Booker is averaging 32.0 points per game in his last 11 contests.

Take the SUNS -8.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Three of the last four games for the Suns have hit the Over but the Wizards have had six of their last eight games stay Under the projected total.

The Suns are 8-15-1 O/U on the road this season.

The Wizards have averaged only 101 points in their last six games.

Take UNDER 218.5 (-107).

Phoenix Suns at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Phoenix Suns at Washington Wizards NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Phoenix Suns (7-3) are in the nation’s capital Monday for a 7 p.m. ET game with the Washington Wizards (2-8). Below, we analyze the Suns-Wizards NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Phoenix earned an impressive road win vs. the Indiana Pacers 125-117 Saturday. The Suns moved the ball better than the Pacers, throwing 33 assists to Indiana’s 23 and committing just three turnovers. Phoenix SF Mikal Bridges scored a game-high, and career-high, 34 points on 12-for-18 shooting (6-for-8 from behind the arc) vs. the Pacers.

The Wizards snuck in the backdoor with a plus-13-point fourth quarter in a 128-124 home loss to the Miami Heat as 6.5-point underdogs Saturday. Washington was without PG Russell Westbrook and the NBA’s leader in points per game in SG Bradley Beal.

These teams split last season’s meetings with each winning and covering a game apiece. Phoenix SG Devin Booker had 27 points in both of the Suns-Wizards games last season and Beal put up 32 points in the only meeting he played in (a 140-132 Wizards win Nov. 27, 2019).

Suns at Wizards: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Suns 121, Wizards 109

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. Laying -275 with the Suns or any NBA team in the regular season is a no-go for me.

Phoenix is the right side here because it needs to rack up wins in a competitive West and newly acquired PG Chris Paul will make sure the unproven Suns aren’t overlooking the Wizards regardless of their opponent’s situation.

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME SUNS -6.5 (-110) for 1 unit. Phoenix is quietly one of the best teams in the league to start the season: 7-3 ATS, third in net rating and fourth in effective field-goal percentage.

The Suns exceeding bookmakers’ expectations by an NBA’s best plus-5.6-ATS margin is exceptionally noteworthy because of CP3’s cache and how Phoenix ended its regular season in the Orlando Bubble.

Let’s not forget that the Suns were a perfect 8-0 in the bubble and missed the play-in due to a tiebreaker but were expected to be a contender for the play-in tournament at the end of this season.

Well, it’s only been 10 games but, if Phoenix fell to the 7-10 seeds and had to clinch a playoff berth via play-in tournament, it would be a disappointment.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 230.5 (-110) is the play because even though we like Phoenix to win, and it plays at the slowest tempo in the league, Washington’s defense is that bad.

The previous four Suns-Wizards games have gone Over the total and all three of Phoenix’s Overs so far this season have come in the last four games. The Suns can put up points and if Washington isn’t going to provide much resistance, what’s stopping Phoenix from dropping 120-plus?
