Steve Kerr delivered a cheeky MAGA joke about Warriors after Donald Trump won the election

Steve Kerr wasn’t subtle about this one.

It’s no secret that Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is no fan of Donald Trump.

He’s been outspoken about politics for so many years. And that was the same on Wednesday after Trump won Tuesday’s presidential election.

Before the Dubs beat the Boston Celtics, he had this to say: “I believe in democracy. I think the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well the next four years. I want our country to do well.”

Then, he jumped in with some sarcasm before returning to the hope for the United States and the government.

But what was his message to his team?

“I just told them in our meeting this morning,” he added, “‘Let’s make America great again and beat the Celtics.”

Quite the way to walk off.

Barack Obama realized he hilariously reenacted the Key & Peele handshake sketch with Team USA

Obama did not realize it at first but now finds it hilarious.

Earlier this year, President Barack Obama met with Team USA basketball and had a hilarious interaction with the players and coaching staff.

Obama had a familiarity with several players and coaches including Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Erik Spoelstra, and Steve Kerr. That much was quite obvious when he greeted each of them for a handshake.

But the former POTUS was not as familiar with Team USA assistant coach Mark Few, who is also the head coach of Gonzaga Men’s Basketball. During a recent interview with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, who was on Team USA this summer, Obama said he had never met Few.

So when it came time to shake his hand, he wasn’t sure what greeting to go with. In the conversation, he admitted that it ended up looking a lot like an iconic sketch fromĀ Key & Peele at a meet and greet:

“I gotta say, that was funny. But here’s what happened. Here’s what happened. So I’m going down the row, right? A lot of those guys, I knew. And then right before I got to Coach Few, it’s Steph, it’s LeBron. I’ve been knowing those guys forever. I had dinner with them, their families. So then Coach Few, I’d never met. And he put out his hand and I’m like, alright. Yeah. I don’t know. Is he going to be comfortable if I pull him into a bro hug? I don’t know. So I just shook his hand. Kerr was right afterward. And Steve I knew. But the way it played out, I will say, it looked just like that Key & Peele skit.”

Obama revealed that he did not know that people would make the comparison because it was not a “conscious” decision.

You can watch the version from his presidency and the version from the Olympics:

When he watched it side-by-side, he felt like people “caught” him.

The former president added that the two comedians did plenty of funny sketches surrounding his presidency and believes that Jordan Peele does a fantastic impression of him.

Meanwhile, this was a great job by Haliburton to ask the question.

Aaron Gordon claimed Steve Kerr asked him about playing for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Aaron Gordon playing for Team USA? Sounds like it was at least considered.

Denver Nuggets star forward Aaron Gordon claims that Team USA coach Steve Kerr made him a big promise.

Gordon didn’t suit up with Team USA during this year’s Paris Olympics, but Gordon claimed through Twitter (X) on Thursday afternoon that Kerr asked him if he wanted to play with the squad.

“Itā€™s a bit rhetorical but hey we got gold,” Gordon said on social media of Kerr’s prompt.

“If you think Iā€™m not working every damn day to play in 2028 and representā€¦I got goals! Donā€™t care if you wanna see me fail.”

Well, that’s certainly interesting. Maybe Gordon will make Team USA for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics?

Steve Kerr brings Steph Curry’s ‘Night Night’ celebration to Democratic National Convention

The Golden State Warriors head coach brought Steph Curry’s “night night” celebration to the Democratic National Convention.

Coming off a run to the Olympic gold medal in Paris with Team USA’s men’s basketball, Steve Kerr made the trip back to where he shared the court with Michael Jordan ā€” the United Center. Yet, his trip to the home of the Chicago Bulls wasn’t for basketball, but for the Democratic National Convention.

Steve Kerr was one of the speakers on Monday in Chicago who gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention. Along with publicly endorsing, Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, Steve Kerr finished his speech with a shoutout to the Golden State Warriors point guard.

Kerr spoke about telling former President and 2024 Republican candidate Donald Trump “night night.” To end his speech, Kerr reenacted Curry’s signature night night celebration.

In the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump … night night.

Steve Kerr trolled Donald Trump with a rendition of a famous Steph Curry celebration at the 2024 DNC

Steve Kerr cracked a joke at Donald Trump’s expense at his Monday night DNC appearance.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has never hidden his progressive politics, and he decided to veer into full advocacy on Monday night.

The longtime NBA coach made a memorable appearance on the first night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago to help support the Kamala Harris/Tim Walz presidential ticket.

During his speech, Kerr had some fun with the idea of former President Donald Trump losing the November election with a classic celebration from his Warriors superstar Steph Curry.

Kerr joked toward the end of his speech that “in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump … night night!”

As he said that, he did Curry’s famous “Night night!” taunt at opposing teams when they’re about to lose.

It’s not hard for you to guess who Kerr will be voting for this fall with a dig like this, one that combines the NBA, the election and comedy all in the name of political advocacy.

Erik Spoelstra is the obvious choice to replace Steve Kerr as U.S. men’s basketball coach

Erik Spoelstra is the best coach in the NBA. He deserves to take over for Steve Kerr with Team USA.

After winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics — even with some unwarranted internal controversy regarding Jayson Tatum — Steve Kerr is reportedly done coaching Team USA men’s basketball, according to longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein.

The news does not come as a shock, as the legendary Golden State Warriors head coach has previously told The Athletic he would likely step down as the Americans’ head man after the Paris Games because he always thought the job was like a “baton” to be passed along.

Where it gets interesting is who will likely replace Kerr, especially as the USA program starts looking ahead to Los Angeles in 2028. Stein has said Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue are the top two replacement candidates, a decision that feels like a no-brainer either way.

However, let me make the decision for the Americans rather easy.

It should be Spoelstra. Running away.

With no disrespect to Lue, who I think is comfortably a top-five coach in NBA basketball right now, Spoelstra is clearly the best coach in the men’s game. In fact, it’s not even close. Frankly, I was always a little surprised the master tactician from Miami wasn’t the USA coach for this past Olympics cycle, as I actually think Spoelstra is a lot better than Kerr.

Spoelstra’s qualifications basically speak for themselves.

He’s led the Heat to two NBA titles, with six overall appearances in the NBA Finals since 2011. The Heat have missed the playoffs only three times in his entire tenure, which started in the 2008-2009 season. Anyone you talk to about the game often touts Spoelstra’s innate ability to maximize whatever talent he has on hand. He is, in effect, the purveyor of the infamous “Heat Culture” that has become a meme in NBA circles precisely because you really can never count Miami out as long as Spoelstra is coaching. That’s because he’s a brilliant basketball junkie through and through.

Now imagine the guy known for taking “gritty” and often haphazardly pieced-together teams coaching a squad of all the best American players on the planet. Hoo boy. This isn’t to say the Americans are facing any real threat of losing their gold-medal perch in Los Angeles, but more that Spoelstra’s coaching would probably make them somehow even more of a virtual shoo-in.

Make the right decision, USA basketball. Let Kerr pass that baton to Spoelstra. He’s earned it.

Steve Kerr: ‘I’m a LeBron [James] fan for life’

Steve Kerr has gained a new appreciation for LeBron James after coaching him and winning a gold medal with him in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

For the last several weeks, a large number of NBA stars and superstars came together and put their egos and individual agendas aside for the good of their country as members of Team USA men’s basketball. Coached by Steve Kerr, they looked vulnerable at times during some exhibition games, but they got the job done when it mattered and left Paris with an Olympic gold medal.

LeBron James was named the MVP, and it was because of his all-around play rather than some dominant scoring performances.

Kerr had coached against James’ former NBA team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the NBA Finals four times, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers, James’ current team, twice in postseason play. He said that being on the same side as the future Hall of Famer gave him a new appreciation for the 39-year-old and that he’s now a “LeBron fan for life.”

ā€œWhat a blessing to coach him finally after all these years of coaching against him and trying to figure out how to beat him,ā€ Kerr said. ā€œTo watch him up close. . .just to see his approach, to see his professionalism, how coachable he is, and then of course how gifted he is, everything, every part of the game he seems to have mastered. Iā€™m thrilled to be able to coach him the last six weeks and Iā€™m a LeBron fan for life.ā€

James’ 14 points, 10 assists and six rebounds helped Team USA get past France 98-87 in the gold medal game on Saturday. In the prior game, he posted a triple-double and helped the United States overcome a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit versus Serbia.

Even after all these years, he is still an elite basketball player and is showing no real signs of slowing down. A lot of that is no doubt due to the professionalism Kerr mentioned, which includes how diligent he is about taking care of his body.

Steve Kerr praises Devin Booker’s performance for Team USA in Olympics

Steve Kerr made a point to praise the Suns guard for his performance in the Olympics.

While a lot of the attention coming off the final two games of Team USA’s run to gold in the Olympics surrounds Stephen Curry following back-to-back ridiculous performances from the Golden State Warriors guard, head coach Steve Kerr made a point to call out the performance of one specific player.

After Team USA secured gold with a thrilling win over France in Paris, Kerr spoke with members of the media in his postgame press conference. Before his presser came to an end, Kerr shared some high praise for Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker. Kerr called Booker Team USA’s “unsung MVP.”

Curry then took to Instagram to co-sign Kerr’s praise of Booker.

Booker was one of four players to score in double figures for Team USA on Saturday. Booker finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes. Booker tallied 10 or more points in four of Team USA’s six games in Paris.

Steve Kerr calls former Kentucky star Team USA’s ‘unsung MVP’

Former Kentucky guard Devin Booker drew praise from Devin Booker for his performance in Team USA’s gold medal win over France.

Team USA secured a gold medal against France in Paris on Saturday, thanks in large part to a dominant fourth quarter from Steph Curry, who looked like his old self after hitting three three pointers in the closing minutes to put the game to rest and silence the home crowd.

Curry led the USA with 24 points on eight made three pointers, while fellow veterans LeBron James and Kevin Durant each had excellent games as well – giving Team USA’s older superstars an incredible curtain call.

After the game, understandably, most of the conversation was centered around Curry’s late game heroics or the play of James and Durant, but at the end of his postgame press conference head coach Steve Kerr made sure to give a special shoutout to former Kentucky guard Devin Booker for his play on Sunday and throughout the olympics.

“Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player,” Kerr said, per Ben Golliver of the Washington Post. “Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that.”

Booker finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists in 28 minutes, while shooting 6-9 from the field.

His 28 minutes trailed only Curry, James, and Durant – a clear sign the 27-year-old is a critical future piece of Team USA going forward.

Team USA will attempt to defend its gold medal in Los Angeles in 2028, and while Curry, Durant, and LeBron are likely going to be done at that point, expect Booker, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Bam Adebayo, and others to pick up the mantle and keep USA Basketball thriving for years to come.

Jonathan Kuminga’s contract demands revealed

Jonathan Kuminga’s demands for his next contract have been revealed.

Jonathan Kuminga was a breakout star for the Golden State Warriors last season. The explosive forward emerged as a vital piece of the rotation and showcased All-Star level upside. As such, he earned himself a spot in the starting lineup in 46 of his 74 outings for the franchise.

Kuminga is entering the final year of his rookie-scale contract. According to Yahoo Sports Jake Fischer, via his “No Cap Room” podcast, Kuminga will seek a full max contract for his next deal. However, those type of contracts are usually reserved for high-level stars, which he is yet to prove himself as.

“Jonathan Kuminga is entering the final year of his rookie deal where the word around the league from various sources is that Kuminga and his representation are looking for a full max extension, which as we just talked about with Brandon Ingram and Jamal Murray and whoever, like if you’re not an absolute All-Star, Scottie Barnes type of guy for Toronto, Lauri Markkanen for Utah you know, Trae Young for Atlanta back in the day, because look at what happened to Trae Young and Atlanta since then, it’s really hard to get that number,” Fischer said.

If Kuminga is truly seeking such a lofty contract extension, he must produce the best season of his young career. Golden State have re-tooled their roster over the opening month of the off-season. Therefore, Kuminga is expected to have more opportunities and a bigger role. The ball will officially be in his court.

Golden State may choose to reach a middle ground with Kuminga during the season rather than waiting to negotiate next summer. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the two sides approach negotiations in the coming weeks and months.
