The Vikings’ offense has struggled against the Arizona Cardinals, and the defense will be without Stephon Gilmore for the second half.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: It was an ugly first half for the Minnesota Vikings. It all started with Vikings’ running back Aaron Jones fumbling on the first two drives. The Vikings’ offensive line has struggled to protect quarterback Sam Darnold against the Cardinals’ blitz packages.
All-told, the Vikings were on the field for seven minutes fewer than the Cardinals, and ran half as many plays in the first half. Despite all the struggles, the Vikings went into halftime only down by three, with each team only scoring field goals.
In the second half, it looks like the Vikings will be without cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Gilmore was hurt in the first half, and was initially take into the medical tent for an evaluation. After a few minutes, Gilmore was taken back to the locker room early before halftime.
Stephon Gilmore injury update
After being taken back to the locker room prior to halftime, Gilmore continued to be looked at. After testing out the hamstring on the sidelines, Gilmore has officially been deemed as questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
How long will Gilmore be out?
As with all in-game injuries, we’re not going to speculate on any long-term effects of the injury. We’ll wait to get an official word from the team on if this will be a persistent injury for Gilmore, forcing him to miss any time. For now, Gilmore has been called questionable to return, but a return does not look likely at this moment.
Vikings cornerback depth chart
With Gilmore currently on the sidelines, the Vikings have turned to the tandem of Fabian Moreau and Shaq Griffin to fill his shoes. Those two will likely split cornerback duties for the remainder of the game as long as Gilmore is out.
