Steelers withhold 50% of game ticket supply due to social distancing precautions

Tickets on sale for Pittsburgh Steelers home games will be limited.

Individual tickets went on sale Friday morning for Pittsburgh Steelers home games, but as a precaution, only half are being made available for purchase.

“We are being proactive with these limited amount of tickets as we are preparing for possible social distancing scenarios at Heinz Field this year,” Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten announced via Twitter.

Any tickets not sold will be made available for purchase at a later date.

Though the NFL is planning to play its entire season as scheduled, contingency plans are in place in case games are postponed or canceled because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent the 32 teams a memo on May 6 that detailed a ticket refund policy in the event games are not played or take place with a limit on the number of fans in attendance.

Ticket holders who purchased directly from the club will be entitled to a full refund or a credit toward future ticket purchases.

Fans can purchase up to eight tickets per household in any combination of the eight regular-season games. For the two preseason games, there is no ticket limit.

The Steelers will continue their variable pricing plan that was implemented in 2014. Variable pricing essentially means that fans will pay more for the same seat for games versus opponents with good records from the previous season than they will for teams like the Bengals and the Redskins.

Here’s what that looks like, according to Joe Rutter of Trib Live:

Premier: Philadelphia Eagles (Week 5), Baltimore Ravens (Week 12).

Black: Denver (Week 2), Cleveland (Week 6), Indianapolis (Week 16).

Gold: Houston (Week 3), Cincinnati (Week 10), Washington (Week 13).

Preseason: Tampa Bay (Week 1), New Orleans (Week 2).
