Giants claim CB Mario Goodrich off of waivers from Eagles

The New York Giants have claimed CB Mario Goodrich off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles and released DB Stantley Thomas-Oliver.

The New York Giants announced on Wednesday evening that they have claimed cornerback Mario Goodrich off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 24-year-old Goodrich originally signed with the Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Clemson in 2022. He appeared in just four regular season games (one start) over his two NFL seasons, recording five tackles (three solo).

During his four games in 2023, the 6-foot, 186-pound Goodrich allowed 11 receptions on 11 targets for 109 yards and two touchdowns. He earned an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 50.4 (48.6 in coverage).

With the Giants, Goodrich will compete with a young and inexperienced group for the chance to win a roster spot. His ability to play special teams should help that cause.

In a corresponding roster move, defensive back Stantley Thomas-Oliver has been released with a non-football injury designation.

Thomas-Oliver was signed to the Giants’ practice squad last October and later signed to a reserve/future contract. He was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list last week with a groin injury.

Giants place Evan Neal on PUP list as training camp begins

The New York Giants placed right tackle Evan Neal on PUP Tuesday as the teams reported for their annual training camp.

The New York Giants placed right tackle Evan Neal on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as the team reported for their 2024 training camp.

Neal missed the final half of last season with an ankle fracture and the team is taking no chances as the former first-rounder attempts to jumpstart his sagging career.

Cornerback Aaron Robinson, a 2021 third-round pick who has played in just 11 games as a Giant, was also placed on PUP.

Defensive backs Jalen Mills and Stanley Thomas-Oliver were placed on the NFI, or non-football injury list.

Quarterback Daniel Jones, who missed the second half of last season with a torn ACL, was cleared for camp.

The Giants are prepared for a prolonged absence from Neal, signing Jermaine Eluemunor in free agency and have Joshua Ezeude returning healthy from an injury-riddled 2023.

Giants sign CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver to practice squad

The New York Giants are signing former Carolina Panthers cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver to their practice squad.

The New York Giants are signing free agent cornerback Stanley Thomas-Oliver, who spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, much of it on injured reserve and the practice squad.

NFL insider Aaron Wilson was the first to report the signing.

Thomas-Oliver, a former wide receiver, was the 221st selection (7th round) in the 2020 NFL draft by the Panthers out of Florida International.

The 25-year-old Thomas-Oliver has appeared in 25 games for the Panthers with no starts. He was released by the Panthers off their practice squad in September.

In 25 career games, Thomas-Oliver has recorded 17 tackles (12 solo). Most of his snaps have come on special teams.

The Giants also terminated the contract of wide receiver and punt returner, Gunner Olszewski. However, he is expected to be re-signed this week.
