St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The St. Louis Cardinals (25-37) and Texas Rangers (40-20) cap off a 3-game set Wednesday at Globe Life Field. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 2-0

The Cardinals continue to find ways to lose baseball games as they have dropped 5 straight and 8 of 10. Monday, it was a baserunning blunder that killed a rally that should have put them ahead in the 8th inning. Tuesday, it was missing a cutoff man on defense to allow extra runs to score. It’s June 7, and they have the worst record in the National League.

The Rangers keep truckin, even as news broke Tuesday that ace RHP Jacob deGrom is out for the season due to Tommy John surgery. Texas has won 8 of 10 and 15 of 20 to lead the AL West. They are also thriving in their home ballpark at 21-8.

  • Has 1 career start vs. Texas back in 2019 (no-decision, 6 IP, 2 ER)
  • Better on road at 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA vs. 2-2 with a 6.12 ERA at home

Gray (6-1, 2.51 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.04 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 in 64 2/3 innings.

Cardinals at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, Cardinals 4

Moneyline

The Cardinals have some reasons for hope here. They have been competitive in the series. Flaherty has pitched much better of late, only allowing 2 ER and 2 BB in 12 1/3 IP his last 2 starts.

However, Gray has been a buzzsaw of late. He hasn’t allowed more than 1 ER in each of his last 5 starts. I’ll take the RANGERS (-145).

Run line/Against the spread

The Cards have played a ton of 1-run games lately. The problem is they’re a laughable 6-14 in them. Over the last 10 games, they have 8 losses and 5 of the 1-run variety. But I’m not paying -165 because I have that little faith in this version of the Cardinals to keep it within a run or win outright.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Cards haven’t cashed an Over in the last 4 games and just 1 in the last 10. According to Covers.com, the Under is 6-0-1 in the last 7 head-to-head meetings in Texas and 8-1-2 in the last 11 meetings overall.

We’re projecting a push here, so head to the Win/Total section and take RANGERS AND UNDER 9.5 (+200) for a chance to double up.

St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with expert MLB picks, predictions and best bets.

The St. Louis Cardinals (25-36) and the Texas Rangers (39-20) play the middle contest of a 3-game interleague series Tuesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 1-0

The Cardinals are in freefall, dropping 4 straight outings while going 3-8 across the past 11 games on the road to fall into last place in the NL Central. St. Louis is just 9-12 in interleague play and is 13-20 on the road.

The Rangers picked up a 4-3 win in the series opener Monday to maintain a 3 1/2 game lead over the Houston Astros in the AL West. Texas is tops in the majors with a plus-153 run differential.

Texas has won 4 in a row, and 8 of its last 10 games, winning 5 straight series since dropping 2 of 3 outings against the visiting Atlanta Braves from May 15-17.

Liberatore (1-1, 4.91 ERA) makes his 3rd start and 4th appearance overall. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 11 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K in a 4-3 road loss vs. the Cleveland Guardians on May 26, his only road start this season

Cardinals at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 6, Cardinals 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-155) are rather moderate favorites, and they’re a solid value at this price point.

The Cardinals have been terrible lately, especially against the AL West. The Cards are 1-10 in the past 11 vs. AL West, 0-5 in their past 5 outings on the road and 1-4 in the past 5 games against right-handed starting pitchers.

Run line/Against the spread

The RANGERS -1.5 (+125) are a solid play at plus money, even though Texas failed to cover the run line in the series opener.

The Rangers, leaguer leaders in run differential, have won their previous 3 games by 2 or more runs and 7 of the team’s last 8 victories have been by 2 or more runs. So if you like Texas to win, you should like it to cover the run line, too.

Over/Under

The UNDER 9.5 (-105) is the lean. It cashed in the series opener and is a good bet again Tuesday.

The Texas offense has been prolific this season, and the Over is 11-5 in the past 16 games against a left-handed starting pitcher.

However, St. Louis has plated 3 or fewer goals in 10 of the past 11 games, and it’s hard to envision the Cards piling up runs against Dunning, who has been tremendously efficient.

Cardinals at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Cardinals 3

Moneyline

BET TEXAS -135.

St. Louis is having an uncharacteristic rough season, with a 13-19 road record and sitting last in the NL Central Division. The Rangers, on the other hand, sit atop the AL West Division and are 19-8 at home.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

This one could go either way and I don’t believe that it is worth the juice for the Cardinals, although it’s tempting to bet on the Rangers at plus-money to win by multiple runs.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 9.5 (-105).

For St. Louis the Under is 5-0 in their last 5 interleague games and 4-0 in Wainwright’s last 4 starts vs. AL West teams. For Texas the Under is 5-0-1 in Perez’s last 6 starts during the 1st game of a series and 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
