St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (61-49) try to take the series against the Colorado Rockies (49-64) Thursday in the finale of a 3-game set at Coors Field. First pitch is set for 3:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 1-1

The Cardinals got out to an early lead Wednesday and never looked back in winning 9-5 a day after they were embarrassed 16-5. St. Louis is 8-2 in the last 10 games and improved to 26-29 away from Busch Stadium.

The Rockies are among the best home teams in baseball, but they’ve slipped to 31-28. They’ve won just 3 of the last 10 games and they just lost 3B Kris Bryant (foot) to the IL again. They still find ways to mash in their home ballpark, though.

Cardinals at Rockies projected starters

RHP Dakota Hudson vs. RHP German Marquez

Hudson (6-6, 4.20 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.39 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 4.8 K/9 in 105 IP.

  • He’s just 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA and 1.57 WHIP on the road vs. 4-2, 3.25 ERA and 1.23 WHIP at home
  • In 1 career start at Coors Field, he allowed 2 ER on 4 H and 5 BB with 7 K in 6 IP. This came in 2019 before Tommy John surgery derailed him

Marquez (6-9, 5.18 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.41 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 in 121 2/3 IP.

  • He’s just 2-5 with a 6.11 ERA and 1.54 WHIP  in 12 home starts vs. 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 9 away starts
  • He did pitch better in his last 3 home starts with a 3.37 ERA, lasting 6 IP in all

Cardinals at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockies 9, Cardinals 6

Money line

The Cards have won the season series against Colorado every year since 2009. However, the Rockies are 6-3 in the last 9 home games. Hudson doesn’t miss many bats, and his sinker is likely to flatten in the thin air of Coors Field. I look for a high-scoring game and a ROCKIES (-103) win.

Run line/Against the spread

When the Rockies win, it’s usually by more than 1 run. Nine of the last 11 wins have been by 2 or more runs. The Cards’ bats are hot, though. I just feel like Hudson will allow too much traffic to overcome. He has walked 2 batters or more in 15 of his 20 starts this year, and those come back to bite in Coors. Sprinkle ROCKIES ALTERNATE LINE -1.5 (+175) for a QUARTER UNIT.

Over/Under

This is a big number, but it hit in the first 2 games of the series. The Over is 4-0 in the Rockies’ last 4 against teams with a winning record. The Over is 6-1 for the Rockies in the last 7, and it has hit for the Cards in the last 3 games. LEAN OVER 12.5 (+100).

Season series: First meeting; Cardinals won 2021 series 4-3

The Cardinals swept the Yankees last weekend and their current 7-game winning streak has vaulted them into 1st place in the NL Central.

Cardinals at Rockies projected starters

RHP Miles Mikolas vs. RHP Ryan Feltner

Mikolas (8-8, 2.92 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.01 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 in 138 2/3 IP.

  • Hasn’t been as good on the road this season as he has at home. In 11 road starts he has a 3.41 ERA and 3.1 K/BB compared to 2.48 and 5.2 at home
  • Has made 2 career starts at Coors Field, allowing 7 ER and 4 HR in 9 2/3 IP

Feltner (1-3, 5.75 ERA) makes his 10th appearance (9th start). He has a 1.45 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 in 40 2/3 IP.

  • Has appeared in just 3 games at Coors Field this season, where he has surrendered 7 ER in 13 1/3 IP while striking out 11
  • Not likely to work deep into the game and he has lasted 5+ innings just once in his last 6 MLB starts and reached that mark in just 1 of 3 July starts at Triple-A

Cardinals at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 7, Rockies 5

Money line

The Cardinals have the pitching advantage and are the better team, but they are just 25-28 on the road this year, while the Rockies are 30-27 at home. There’s no value on either side of this line so PASS.

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for 20% OFF full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 8/31/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

Of Colorado’s 27 home losses, 20 have been decided by more than 1 run. In this game they will have to rely heavily on a bullpen that is second worst in the league in terms of ERA and K/9 so take the CARDINALS -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The total has gone over in 6 of Feltner’s 8 starts this season, and Mikolas’ pitch to contact approach can’t be expected to work as well at Coors as it does everywhere else. This one should end up pretty close to the set total, but we’ll side with the plus odds and take OVER 11.5 (+105).

St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (41-43) and Colorado Rockies (36-48) play the finale of a four-game set Sunday at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Carlos Martinez is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 4-9 with a 6.38 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 6.3 K and 4.0 BB in 79 IP over 15 starts.

Martinez snapped a five-start losing streak last time out with a quality start and win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday. He allowed one run, four hits and two walks in six innings with six strikeouts in the win.

Martinez faced the Rockies May 8 in St. Louis allowing five runs, six hits and five walks in five innings in a victory.

RHP German Marquez is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 7-6 with a 3.62 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 8.5 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 99 1/3 IP over 17 starts.

Marquez has won three consecutive starts including a complete-game, one-hit shutout last time out against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday. He is 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA across the past three outings chopping his ERA from 4.60 to 3.62 just since June 12.

Marquez faced the Cardinals in St. Louis May 9 allowing two runs (one earned) with six hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings in a 2-0 loss.

  • Money line: Cardinals +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Rockies -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals +1.5 (-135) | Rockies -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under: 11.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Rockies 7, Cardinals 2

Money line (ML)

The ROCKIES (-160) look to cap off the four-game set with three victories, and the way Marquez has been pitching lately, that makes Colorado a great bet.

Colorado has rattled off wins in five of the past six outings, and they have allowed two or fewer runs in five of those contests.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The ROCKIES -1.5 (+110) have won by two or more runs in five of their past six victories. In addition, they have won each of Marquez’s past three starts, outscoring the opposition 20-5 during the span. Colorado is a great bet laying the run-and-a-half here as long as Marquez doesn’t have a backslide.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 11.5 (-115) is the play with Marquez on the hill. As mentioned, he has a 0.39 ERA over 23 innings across his past three outings, and the Under has cashed in all three games. The Under is also 5-1 across his past six starts.

The Under is also 5-1-2 in the past eight games overall for the Cardinals and 4-1 in their past five on the road.

St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (41-42) and Colorado Rockies (35-48) play the third game of a four-game set Saturday at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Wade LeBlanc is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 0-1 with a 5.60 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 12 K and 3 BB in 17 2/3 IP over two starts and nine relief appearances.

LeBlanc will make his second straight start, and sixth overall appearance, for the Cardinals since being acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in mid-June. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings Monday receiving a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

LHP Kyle Freeland is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 1-2 with a 6.54 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 31 2/3 IP over seven starts.

Freeland suffered a right hamstring injury Monday while running the bases against the Pirates but is expected to be fine to start. He won that outing allowing just 3 hits with a walk and 7 strikeouts across 5 scoreless innings.

Cardinals at Rockies odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:54 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cardinals -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Rockies -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals -1.5 (+135) | Rockies +1.5 (-160)
  • Over/Under: 12.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Rockies 7, Cardinals 6

Money line (ML)

The ROCKIES (-115) may be slight favorites but they’re still the play in this one against the Cardinals. I like Freeland a little bit better than the journeyman LeBlanc – especially at Coors Field – assuming he doesn’t have any sort of a setback with his hamstring.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The ROCKIES +1.5 (-160) won’t cost you that much if you’re just not feeling them at home to win straight up or you want a little bit of insurance in case Freeland’s hamstring flares up.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 12.5 (-105) is a big number but a matchup between LeBlanc and Freeland should mean a decent amount of runs at Coors.

After scouring the alternate lines I also like OVER 10.5 (-190) as you chop off two runs off the total and it still won’t quite cost you two times your potential return. It’s an attractive alternate play.

St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (40-42) try to even the series in the second game of their four-game set against the Colorado Rockies (35-47) Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. at Coors Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Johan Oviedo is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 0-4 with a 5.23 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 and 5.2 BB/9 in 43 IP over nine starts and one relief appearance.

Aside from one great start where he tossed 7 scoreless innings he has recorded a 7.18 ERA over 31 1/3 IP as a starter.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 2-5 with a 5.81 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 5.3 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in 69 2/3 IP over 11 starts and four appearances out of the bullpen.

He picked up the loss in his last start Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers but it was his best outing in June allowing just 1 run in 5 innings.

Cardinals at Rockies odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:02 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cardinals -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Rockies -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals -1.5 (+135) | Rockies +1.5 (-160)
  • Over/Under: 12.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Rockies 7, Cardinals 4

Money line (ML)

The Cardinals have lost four straight, and 12 of their last 14, road games, after their 5-2 loss Thursday. They’re 17-24 away from home for the season. St. Louis is 2-7 in Oviedo starts and 1-3 when he starts on the road.

Only two teams have more than the Rockies’ 29 home wins. Colorado has won four games in a row and is 2-2 when Gonzalez starts at Coors Field this season.

Take the ROCKIES (-115).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Cardinals have covered the spread in only three of their last 10 games and are 20-21 ATS on the road.

The Rockies are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games overall and their 68.9% cover percentage at home is the highest in baseball.

If you aren’t confident enough that the Rockies win the game outright to bet the money line give yourself an extra run and take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-160).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for tonight’s game is high.

Only 48.8% of the games at Coors Field this season hit the Over. Only two of the last 13 games at Coors Field reached a total greater than 12 runs scored.

June 11 was the last time the Cardinals had a game with a total of greater than 12.

Take UNDER 12.5 (-105).
