Spencer Cross earns All-America honorable mention

Tennessee’s Spencer Cross earns All-America honorable mention.

Tennessee golfer Spencer Cross has been named Honorable Mention All-America by Golfweek.

Cross’ selection to the team marks his second All-America honor since the conclusion of the season. He was also named Honorable Mention by PING.

Cross was also named Honorable Mention in 2020, making him the sixth golfer in program history to achieve All-America honors in multiple seasons.

He also received first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors and was named to PING’s All-Southeast Region Team.

In his final season with the Volunteers, Cross finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 69.33 stroke average, the best single-season average in program history.

His career stroke average of 71.96 is the third-best in program history.

Cross recorded 22 rounds of par or better this season.

Patriot All-America: Results for Hunter Wolcott, Spencer Cross

Patriot All-America: Results for Tennessee’s Hunter Wolcott and Spencer Cross

Hunter Wolcott and Spencer Cross competed in the Patriot All-America tournament.

The 54-hole event took place Dec. 29-31 at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield, Arizona.

Wolcott, a redshirt senior from Burns, Tennessee, finished tied for 15th (-6). He shot 68 in all three rounds of the tournament.

Cross, a senior from Sevierville, Tennessee, finished tied for 22nd (-4). He shot 66 on Friday after finishing the first two rounds even with consecutive scores of 70 to open play.

Tennessee returns to team competition Feb. 13-15 in the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The 119th Western Amateur Championship is taking place July 26-31 at Glen View Club in Golf, Illinois.

The first day of the Western Amateur Championship is a practice round on Monday. Rounds 1-4 are slated for July 27-29 with rounds three and four taking place on Thursday.

The Round of 16 and quarterfinals are scheduled for July 30, while the semifinals and finals are slated to take place July 31.

Three University of Tennessee golfers are competing in the field: Spencer Cross, Bryce Lewis and Hunter Wolcott. Below are first round results.
