Spartan Stadium considered one of top ‘sneaky awesome atmospheres’ in Big Ten

Spartan Stadium received some praise on Thursday

Michigan State’s home football field received some praise on Thursday.

Spartan Stadium was considered one of the top five “sneaky awesome atmospheres” in the Big Ten, according to Anthony Herron of the Big Ten Network. Herron ranked the top five sneaky awesome atmospheres and listed Spartan Stadium as No. 3. He had Washington’s Husky Stadium at No. 1 and Purdue’s Ross-Ade Stadium at No. 2. Behind Spartan Stadium was Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium at No. 4 and Rutgers’ Shi Stadium at No. 5.

In my mind, this is a great list from Herron. There are honestly a ton of great venues in the Big Ten, so it’s hard to know what’s considered a “sneaky awesome atmosphere” but I personally have no issue with this list.

On the year, Michigan State is 2-1 in home games played at Spartan Stadium, with the lone loss coming against Ohio State. Michigan State will return home for its next game after the bye this week, facing Iowa on October 19. That game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Tom Herman praises Spartan Stadium atmosphere with slight jab to Michigan

While praising the Spartan Stadium atmosphere, Tom Herman took a small jab at Michigan in the process:

Ahead of Michigan State football’s season opener with Florida Atlantic on Friday night, the Owls head man Tom Herman had a press conference, previewing the matchup.

During that press conference, among the key quotes Herman had, he spoke on the atmosphere at Spartan Stadium, throwing a small shot at Michigan in the process.

“I just remember, this is no offense to their brothers in Ann Arbor, but that stadium in Ann Arbor holds 40,000 more people, and I thought the one in East Lansing was significantly louder and more disruptive for an offense.”

A note from the Owls’ head coach that will surely bring a smile to Spartan fans faces.

Spartan Stadium ranked as one of ‘toughest places to play’ in new EA Sports video game

Spartan Stadium is considered one of the toughest places to play in the new EA Sports college football video game

Spartan Stadium is considered one of the toughest places to play in the new EA Sports college football video game.

“College Football 25” is set to be released next month — which will be the first college football video game in over 10 years. As part of the lead up to the game’s release, EA Sports will be unveiling numerous rankings this week, which included the top 25 “toughest places to play” in the game list. Spartan Stadium came in at No. 22 on that list.

Watch some of the ‘loudest’ moments in Spartan Stadium history

Spartan Stadium has seen some wild finishes over the years — here are some of the best ever

Can you name the loudest moment in Spartan Stadium history?

Probably not, since that is an objective question, but there certainly are some times that come to mind. For me personally, I’d say the yell of the crowd after the officials overturned the call on the field for the Hail Mary “Rocket” game against Wisconsin in 2011 is up there. So is the interception by Charles Brantley to seal the Spartans victory over rival Michigan in 2021. Being in the stadium for both of those wild finishes are two moments I’ll never forget in my lifetime.

Both of those games were included in a fun montage video put together by “Michigan State Content” on X earlier this week. Check out this great video of clips from some of the most “loudest” moments in Spartan Stadium history below:

New Michigan law means alcohol sales could be coming to Spartan Stadium soon

Michigan State fans could have the opportunity to enjoy an alcoholic beverage inside Spartan Stadium this upcoming season

Michigan State fans could have the opportunity to enjoy an alcoholic beverage inside Spartan Stadium this upcoming season.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer officially signed Senate Bill 247 on Tuesday, which allows public universities to obtain liquor licenses to sell alcoholic beverages during football, basketball and hockey games. This means Michigan State will now have the opportunity to pursue offering alcohol at games this upcoming season — should the university choose to do so.

Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller has previously supported the idea of alcohol sales at Spartan Stadium so with this new law in place one can assume the Spartans will be offering beer and other drinks at games soon. It is unclear, however, if that will be the case by this upcoming season — which begins in just over a month.

Check out more details on this new law by clicking on the tweet below:

WATCH: How to give Michigan State football the best home field environment

How to give Michigan State football the best home-field environment

Mel Tucker has been very adamant about wanting to bring the best home-field atmosphere to Spartan Stadium. Tucker has a vision of building this program and building an atmosphere at Spartan Stadium is something that is a part of those plans.

Tucker has dubbed Spartan Stadium with the nickname ‘The Woodshed’ and now the student section is set to be known as ‘The Deep End’.

With all these branding changes, there is excitement around the program. Next, Coach Tucker wants to see Spartan Stadium be one of the loudest places in the country.

Led by former linebacker and current Director of Player Engagement Darien Harris, MSU took to Twitter to give the fans a video of what the team wants to see. You can watch the video here:

Could Michigan State be moving on from Thunderstruck as team’s entrance song?

It seems like Michigan State could have a new entrance song this season…

[mm-video type=video id=01feyq3gp346szkpfy85 playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01feyq3gp346szkpfy85/01feyq3gp346szkpfy85-c78b87aed6ebf5e09c9b0352abc92468.jpg]

The Spartans could be running onto the field to a new song this season.

For the longest time, Michigan State football has used AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” as the team’s entrance song to start games. However, that could be changing based on a tweet from the Spartans’ official Twitter account on Wednesday evening.

The tweet — which is pasted below — states the Spartans will “SURF” on Saturday with F.L.Y.’s “Swag Surfin'” faintly playing in the background. The video also shows the tunnel the players run out of to enter Spartan Stadium — which has some fans believing this will be the team’s new entrance song.

I personally don’t have a problem with Thunderstruck as the team’s entrance song but also would be in favor of this change for the program too. This, of course, could be reading too much into a simple tweet but it’s worth noting as another potential change by head coach Mel Tucker and his staff.
