The South Carolina Gamecocks (2-1) take on the No. 16 Indiana Hoosiers (2-0) Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is set for 3 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the South Carolina vs. Indiana odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

South Carolina was stunned by North Florida 74-71 in the season opener. The Gamecocks were 19-point favorites in the defeat. Since then, they’ve made quick work of South Carolina State, covering as 19.5-point favorites 86-64, and they smashed Towson 80-54 Tuesday as 7-point favorites. F Collin Murray-Boyles had 27 points and 9 boards Tuesday and is averaging 20.3 PPG and 10.7 RPG on the season.

The Hoosiers have yet to be tested, flooring SIU-Edwardsville 80-61 and Eastern Illinois 90-55, in their first 2 games. Sophomore G Mackenzie Mgbako is 17th in the nation averaging 24.5 PPG and has shot 74.1% from the floor and 66.7% from distance. C Oumar Ballo, a transfer from Arizona, is averaging 16 PPG and 7.5 RPG underneath.

South Carolina at Indiana picks and predictions

Prediction

Indiana 78, South Carolina 74

Moneyline

This is a game IU should win, but they are overpriced at -300. One route South Carolina can take is getting IU into foul trouble. F Malik Reneau was in foul trouble far too often last year, and South Carolina feasts at the charity stripe. Murray-Boyles has already shot 23 free throws thus far.

If the Gamecocks can get into the paint and put IU’s bigs on the bench, they could keep it close to sink their teeth in late.

There were no player props available at press time, but I’d look to see if Murray-Boyles is around 16.5 points around tipoff.

PASS.

Against the spread

I like South Carolina here for the aforementioned reasons. IU is tied for 80th at 38.5 rebounds per game and tied for 284th at 7.5 offensive rebounds per game. Now that last stat is skewed because of the weak competition allowing it to shoot sixth-best in the country at 57.1%. But it doesn’t shoot particularly well from outside.

Take SOUTH CAROLINA +7.5 (-115).

Over/Under

South Carolina is 2-1 O/U thus far, and IU has cashed both Unders. If the Gamecocks’ gameplan is to get to the free-throw line, that means points without time ticking down. Both teams dropped 80 in their last 2 games.

I’ll take the OVER 144.5 (-110).
