Troy at South Carolina odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Troy at South Carolina odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Troy Trojans (2-2, 0-1 Sun Belt) and South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2, 0-2 SEC) meet Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Troy vs. South Carolina odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Troy is coming off a head-scratcher as it fell 29-16 at UL Monroe last week as 23.5-point favorites. The Warhawks are one of the worst teams in the nation and the Trojans had a shot at improving to 3-1, with its only loss to a good Liberty side, but couldn’t capitalize.

South Carolina enters on a two-game skid, but losses to ranked SEC East Division foes Georgia and Kentucky are nothing to be ashamed about. The Gamecocks gave the Wildcats a good game, falling 16-10 at home last Saturday. The Under is 3-1 for South Carolina, as they have allowed 33 total points in the three outings outside the UGA game.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Troy at South Carolina odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

South Carolina 26, Troy 17

Money line

I would have liked the possibility of a Troy upset a lot more until its egg-laying in Monroe last week. If the Trojans can’t beat one of the worst teams in their own conference, they aren’t taking down a mid-tier SEC squad.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

I think SOUTH CAROLINA -6.5 (-125) is quite a gift from the books, so enjoy. As long as this stays under a flat seven, or the dreaded seven and a hook, I love this line.

Troy has had difficulty putting points on the board against FBS foes, going for just 13 points in the Liberty loss, just 21 points in a win over Southern Miss, and 16 points in last week’s stunner at ULM.

South Carolina isn’t exactly killing it offensively either, going for 20, 13 and 10 in its last three outings. Don’t expect a ton of points, but the Gamecocks will pull it out in the end.

Over/Under

The slight lean is to the OVER 42.5 (-108), even though Troy and South Carolina have had their issues cobbling together yards and points against non-FCS teams this season.

Still, a total in the low 40s is crazy low, and you can expect South Carolina to enjoy a little home cooking. South Carolina managed just 10 at home against a solid Kentucky side but scored 46 in the opener against Eastern Illinois. I like the Gamecocks to fall somewhere in the middle of that margin, especially against a Trojans side that was dinged by a very bad ULM team for 29 points.

  • Money line: Texas A&M -323 (bet $323 to win $100) | South Carolina +255 (bet $100 to win $255)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Texas A&M -9.5 (-110) | South Carolina +9.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Texas A&M at South Carolina: Three things to know

  1. The Texas A&M’s offense is diverse and led by the arm of QB Kellen Mond (64.7% accuracy, 12 TD, 2 Int.) and the legs of RB Isaiah Spiller (10.3 YPC). In last year’s meeting — a 30-6 win for the Aggies (Nov. 16) — Mond threw for 221 yards and ran for 47 while Spiller logged 129 rushing yards.
  2. South Carolina RB Kevin Harris already has eight rushing touchdowns on the season. The sophomore standout logged a 126-yard game two weeks ago in USC’s last game (vs. LSU). That performance marked his third 100-yard game in 2020.
  3. Texas A&M won last year’s meeting and is on a two-game against-the-spread win streak against the Gamecocks. In the 2019 game, the Aggies outgained South Carolina, 540 yards to 260.

Texas A&M at South Carolina: Odds, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Texas A&M 35, South Carolina 20

Money line (ML)

STEER CLEAR of the juice-obscured true odds. Better leverage can be found in the ATS and O/U plays below.

Against the spread (ATS)

The likable statistical leverage for Texas A&M comes in their offensive passing game (252.2 yards per game) against South Carolina’s beatable pass defense and in the Aggies’ run defense (3.4 yards per attempt) versus the Gamecocks’ ground game.

The Aggies are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a road favorite. TAKE A&M TO COVER in Saturday’s contest in Columbia.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under has prevailed in four straight meetings between the Aggies and Gamecocks. The Under is also 5-0 in A&M’s last five games as a road favorite. THE LOW SIDE IS THE WAY TO SHADE THIS ONE; consider a line watch to get a higher total and more leverage for your wager.

South Carolina at LSU odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s South Carolina Gamecocks at LSU Tigers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2, 2-2 SEC) travel to Baton Rouge, La., to meet the LSU Tigers (1-2, 1-2) in a Saturday night game at Tiger Stadium. Saturday’s contest is slated for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the South Carolina-LSU college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

South Carolina at LSU: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 2:25 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: South Carolina +175 (bet $100 to win $175) | LSU -218 (bet $218 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: South Carolina +6 (-110) | LSU -6 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 54.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

South Carolina at LSU: Three things to know

  1. LSU QB Myles Brennan (leg) is doubtful for this contest. The Tigers signal caller has thrown for 1,112 over just three games. Brennan is backed up by two freshmen in Max Johnson and TJ Finley. Both are highly regarded, but neither has attempted a forward pass.
  2. South Carolina has a solid ground weapon in sophomore RB Kevin Harris. With 20-plus carries over each of the last three games, Harris gets plenty of opportunities. He clocked a 171-yard game at Vanderbilt two weeks back and on the season owns a 5.0 yards per carry average. Harris has also had a nose for the end zone and has scored a touchdown in each of four games with a total of six rushing TDs on the year.
  3. The Tigers have been uncommonly bad in converting on third-down opportunities, and the Gamecocks have been incredibly stingy on third-down defense. LSU ranks 71st in the nation with a 23.1% success rate on the penultimate down. USC ranks seventh in FBS play, holding teams to a 27.7% mark.

South Carolina at LSU: Odds, betting lines and picks

Prediction

LSU 28, South Carolina 21

Money line (ML)

The third-down numbers for both teams provide some hidden numbers which are overcooked on the South Carolina side and undercooked on the LSU side. The third-down efficiencies tend to have some natural bounce-back, and the effect is significant. The LEAN IS TOWARD LSU (-218), and the price isn’t too far out of whack. A tag around -210 has decent value for a night game in Death Valley.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. South Carolina was outgained by nearly 200 yards in its game against Auburn, but the Gamecocks benefited by a plus-2 turnover margin. LSU has a much higher talent ceiling with its recruiting base, but the quarterback question makes for too much variability in how the Tigers might get and hold a 10-14-point lead.

Over/Under (O/U)

These two teams have combined to produce 16 takeaways already, and that’s a number which feels like it’s due for some regression. Figure on some longer fields for both offenses and some conservatism creeping into both game plans. BACK THE UNDER 54.5 (-110).
