On Thursday, California Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered residents to stay at home in an attempt to reduce the spread of the coronavirus throughout the state. It was the first state-wide mandate in the country, essentially locking down California for the near future.

Immediately, some wondered how that might impact construction on SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The Rams are among those who still aren’t sure whether the order will delay the opening of their new stadium, but it seems unlikely to cause a setback.

According to ProFootballTalk, the governor revised his list of exceptions to include construction projects, which would presumably include SoFi Stadium.

However, Fred Roggin of NBC LA and Kevin Modesti of the Daily News are both reporting that the Rams will meet with government officials to determine the potential impact on SoFi Stadium’s construction.

SoFi Stadium is expected to be finished in July for a Taylor Swift concert. The Rams and Chargers will both play preseason games there the following month before the regular season begins in September.

Previously, the managing director of the project said the stadium was on a “really tight schedule,” so hopefully there are no delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re on a really tight schedule to deliver the building for July 25, yet everything remains on schedule,” said Jason Gannon, managing director of the stadium project at Hollywood Park.

Watch: Aaron Donald tours SoFi Stadium, including Rams locker room

Aaron Donald got a good look at the Rams’ future home.

SoFi Stadium is scheduled to open in about four months, and five months from now, preseason games are scheduled to be played there by the Rams and Chargers. There’s still a lot of work still to be done on the stadium, including the roof panels and Oculus video board, but it’s certainly looking close to finished.

Recently, Aaron Donald toured the construction site of SoFi Stadium, getting a sneak peek at the views from the stands, the locker room and the Oculus. He even got to see what it’s like to drive into the stadium, as players would on game days.

The full video on the Rams’ website shows a better view of the locker room, and gives greater insight on intricacies of the stadium – including a feature where sound from postgame interviews will be played in club areas for fans to listen and see, too.

That’s a feature shared by AT&T Stadium, helping bring fans closer to the action during and after games.

SoFi Stadium is going to be one of a kind, and soon enough, it’ll be open for fans to experience.

Look: Oculus screen, ribbon video boards coming along at SoFi Stadium

SoFi Stadium will be finished before you know it.

Rams fans endured a long weekend of panic over the leaked logo that popped up on the internet, but there are still reasons to be excited about the upcoming season. One of those reasons is the upcoming opening of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood – a magnificent venue that will become the gold standard of stadiums in the U.S.

SoFi Stadium will open in July for a Taylor Swift concert, and a month later, the Rams and Chargers will play their preseason games there. With four months still to go, there’s a lot of work left to be done.

The focal point of the stadium is the Oculus video board, which is viewable from every seat in the house and unlike any other screen in the world. It’s double-sided and will feature 4K resolution videos, as well as the entire sound system for the stadium.

In a recent video shared by Mick Akers, you can see work has begun on the interior of the scoreboard with panels being installed every day.

Additionally, the ribbon video boards are going up around the stadium and appear to be functional.

The Rams also posted a video this week showing how the Oculus video board is being constructed, revealing what an arduous and time-consuming process it is.

Check out the video below, which goes in great detail.

SoFi Stadium is expected to cost about $5 billion, making it the most expensive stadium in the country.

Crane collapse not expected to delay SoFi Stadium opening

A large crane collapsed last week at SoFi Stadium but it won’t delay the venue’s timeline to open.

A large crane collapsed at the construction site of SoFi Stadium last week, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. It occurred when a moving crane struck the stationary one, causing it to come crashing to the ground.

The stadium is set to open in July for a Taylor Swift concert and then for the NFL preseason in August, and that timeline apparently won’t be affected by this recent accident. According to Forbes, citing SoFi Stadium officials, the crane collapse won’t delay the stadiums’ opening.

The crane was stationed outside of the stadium, so it didn’t cause any damage to the $5 billion structure itself. That’s great news for everyone involved, especially after the stadium’s opening was already delayed a year in 2017 due to rainfall; it was originally slated to open for the 2019 season.

The stadium is more than 85% complete with roof panels being installed, seats being put in place and the double-sided Oculus scoreboard being assembled.

Large crane collapsed at SoFi Stadium

No injuries were reported.

On Friday morning, a large crane collapsed at the construction site of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA, which is the future home of the Los Angeles Chargers and Rams.

Fortunately, the crane collapse occurred in an open parking lot, not inside the stadium. No injuries were reported, officials said.

The crane was in the process of being moved when it struck. There was no damage to the stadium.

The stadium is more than 85% complete and is set to open in July for a Taylor Swift concert. The Rams and Bolts are set to play in preseason games in August before the regular season kicks off.

Other major events that will be held there include, Guns N’ Roses, Wrestlemania 37, Super Bowl LVI in 2022, the College Football National Championship game in 2023 and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2028 Olympic Games.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A large crane at the construction site of SoFi Stadium – the future home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers – collapsed on Friday morning. The crane was positioned outside the stadium, not on the interior.

It’s unclear what caused the accident, but according to the L.A. County Fire Department, no injuries were reported.

The $5 billion stadium is more than 85% complete and is set to open in July for a Taylor Swift concert. The Rams and Chargers will both play preseason games there in August before the regular season begins a month later.

Jerry Jones wants Rams to open SoFi Stadium against Cowboys

Could we see Rams-Cowboys in the first regular-season game at SoFi Stadium?

We know the Los Angeles Rams will play eight home games at SoFi Stadium in 2020 after spending the last four years at the Coliseum. We also know which eight teams the Rams will host at their new stadium.

What hasn’t been determined is when each game will be played and which team will get the honors of facing the Rams in the first regular season matchup at SoFi Stadium. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has an idea, and it’s one that makes a lot of sense for the NFL, too.

He wants the Rams to host his Cowboys in the first regular-season game at SoFi Stadium, which is possible because Dallas is on the Rams’ schedule next season.

Jones is one of the most influential owners in the NFL and actually has connections to SoFi Stadium. He was a big part of moving the Rams back to L.A. from St. Louis, with a lawsuit even claiming Jones conspired with owner Stan Kroenke. Jones also helped push the deal forward for the Rams, Chargers and Raiders to get new stadiums. Additionally, his company Legends negotiated the naming rights agreement with SoFi.

It’s not unreasonable for Jones to want his team to play the first regular-season game at the new venue, which is more than 85% completed. Whether his wish will be granted by the NFL remains to be seen, but Jones has some pull – just probably not with the schedule makers.

The Rams and Cowboys do have some recent history, squaring off three times since the start of the 2017 season – including a divisional round matchup in the 2018 playoffs.

The Cowboys played the first preseason game after the Rams moved back to Los Angeles in 2016, which set an attendance record for the preseason. And when the two teams squared off last preseason in Hawaii, tickets sold out in less than a day.

So there would be no shortage of interest if the Rams were to host the Cowboys in the stadium-opening game.

Incredible new drone footage shows SoFi Stadium from all angles

SoFi Stadium looks spectacular, even at 85% complete.

SoFi Stadium will be complete and open its doors in July for a Taylor Swift concert, and later in the summer, both the Rams and Chargers will move in. The stadium is more than 85% complete and construction workers are making progress on the Oculus scoreboard, the concourse, American Airlines Plaza and the other finishing touches.

Looking at photos and videos of the stadium, it’s hard to imagine the Rams will be playing games there in just six months. But it’ll be ready for the 2020 season, and it’ll be a spectacular venue to watch a game.

New drone footage posted on YouTube shows SoFi Stadium from all angles, even going up close on the roof. It’s seven minutes of spectacular 4K footage, showing the inside and outside of the stadium.

In parts of the video, you can see some seats that have already been installed. There are also shots of the concourse, as well as the Oculus, which is having speakers and LED screens installed right now.

The completed product is going to be a night-and-day difference from the Coliseum and all of its historic glory, making SoFi Stadium a destination for all NFL fans.

Rams share new video from inside SoFi Stadium showing Oculus screen

The Oculus video board will weigh 2.2 million pounds when completed.

The 2020 season is going to be a big one for fans of the Los Angeles Rams, not because the team is guaranteed to go deep into the playoffs, but because of all the changes coming this offseason.

The Rams will get new uniforms, new colors and a redesigned logo, coinciding with the opening of the magnificent SoFi Stadium. The stadium is more than 85% complete will be finished in July, in time for the preseason.

The Oculus video board is one of the best features of the stadium, stretching 120 yards of double-sided 4K video for every fan in every seat to see. The Oculus is still on the ground being constructed, but it’s coming together and the screens are being installed.

You can see that in this new video shared by the Rams, giving a look inside the stadium.

Cooper Kupp marveled at the size of the screen, noticing how monstrous it is compared to the construction worker next to it.

Needless to say, the Oculus will be revolutionary when it comes to stadium scoreboards. It will weigh 2.2 million pounds, feature 80 million pixels and house 260 speakers, which will be the sole provider of all the audio in the stadium.

Once it’s finished, it’ll be hoisted into the air and suspended from the roof, which will tie the whole venue together.

Here’s another look at the stadium from inside, where you can see the roof coming together with glass panels being installed every day.

Roger Goodell addresses idea of 2020 NFL season opening at SoFi Stadium

Roger Goodell is open to SoFi Stadium kicking off the 2020 season on Thursday night in Week 1.

Each new NFL season typically starts with the defending Super Bowl champion playing in prime time on Thursday night in Week 1. Last season was an exception with the Bears and Packers opening the year to celebrate the league’s 100th season, but the Super Bowl champ usually plays the first game.

That may not be the case in 2020 with new stadiums set to open in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. At his state of the NFL press conference on Wednesday, commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the possibility of next season starting at SoFi Stadium with either the Rams or Chargers.

He was asked if there would be a concern about a 5 p.m. PT kickoff on a Thursday night, potentially causing fans to show up to the stadium late due to heavy Los Angeles traffic. While that would be taken into consideration, it’s not a huge worry.

“From our standpoint, we look at not only celebrating the Super Bowl champion, but as you point out, we are going to be relaunching two teams in Los Angeles and one team in Las Vegas,” he said. “In addition, we’ll be celebrating our 100th birthday on September 17. So when we’re sitting down, which we’ve already begun, looking at the schedule for next year, our hope would be to create the biggest and best platform for all those events. They’re very significant to the future of the league. We’re thrilled to be back in Los Angeles with two teams and we’re thrilled to have a great new stadium, which is going set a benchmark for stadiums.”

He continued by saying the league would be open to putting SoFi Stadium in prime time on either Thursday or Sunday night in Week 1, but the NFL does have to take into account the acclimation period that comes with a new stadium’s first game.

“Our job is to put the biggest stage together for all of those teams at that moment. And so we will do that obviously through scheduling,” Goodell added. “We do have the flexibility to move the Super Bowl champ to either Thursday or Sunday – we are required by policy, it’ll be one or the other. So we could very well start in Los Angeles on a Sunday to avoid [the traffic] problem. We are going to be playing prime-time games in Los Angeles at some point in time, but the likelihood around the first event, as you know, there’s a period of time where there’s an acclimation for everybody getting in and out of the stadium. But I think it’s going to be such a huge event, I’m not worried about a lack of fans there.”

The Rams are the ones building the stadium thanks to owner Stan Kroenke footing most of the bill, so they should be given the chance to play the home opener at SoFi Stadium. They have some marquee teams on their home schedule in 2020, including the Cowboys, Patriots, and of course the Seahawks and 49ers.

No matter which game opens SoFi Stadium next season, it’s bound to be packed with fans anxious to get a look at the state-of-the-art venue. It just remains to be seen when the first game will be played.
