Jaida Thomas scores 40th career goal for Lady Vols

Tennessee soccer defeats Missouri and Jaida Thomas scores 40th career goal.

Tennessee (7-1-3, 2-0-2) defeated Missouri (3-7-2, 1-3-1), 1-0, on Friday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Jaida Thomas made her first start of the season for the Lady Vols and scored the contest’s only goal in the 21st minute. The redshirt senior forward has scored 40 goals since arriving at Tennessee in 2019.

Thomas is second all time in Tennessee program history for career goals behind Kylee Rossi (43).

She also recorded her 12th career game-winning goal. Thomas is fourth all time in Tennessee program history for career game-winning goals.

Tennessee will next play on Oct. 10 at Arkansas. Kickoff between the Lady Vols and Razorbacks is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.

Ally Zazzara records 100th career save for Lady Vols

Tennessee goalkeeper Ally Zazzara records 100th save for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee (6-1-3, 1-0-2 SEC) hosted Vanderbilt (5-2-4, 0-2-2 SEC) on Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium. The Lady Vols and Commodores played to a, 1-1, tie.

Tennessee goalkeeper Ally Zazzara totaled a season-high 11 saves against Vanderbilt, including a penalty kick during the 12th minute. She also recorded her 100th career save for the Lady Vols in the contest.

Mac Midgley scored Tennessee’s only goal and Reese Mattern recorded an assist in the 83rd minute. Sydney Watts scored a goal for Vanderbilt during the 56th minute.

Tennessee extended its unbeaten streak to nine games. The Lady Vols have not lost a match since their season-opening game at Indiana on Aug. 15.

The Lady Vols will next play Missouri on Friday at Regal Soccer Stadium (7 p.m. EDT, SEC Network).

Husker soccer falls 1-0 to No. 15 Penn State

The Huskers’ record drops to 4-7 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.

Sunday, the Nebraska soccer team faced another big challenge, clashing with No. 15 Penn State. Despite an aggressive showing, the Huskers couldn’t get the ball across the line, falling to the Nittany Lions 1-0.

Penn State kicked the go-ahead goal 15 minutes into the match, allowing them to focus on Nebraska’s offense. The Nittany Lions stood against the Huskers, who shot 17 times in the loss.

Nebraska only managed four shots on goal, each resulting in a Penn State save. The Nittany Lions delivered seven shots, five on goal, with Sami Hauk saving four for the Huskers.

Sarah Weber led Nebraska on offense, firing nine shots, two on goal. Sadie Waite and Florence Belzile each pitched in two shots, one on goal. Jordan Zade also shot twice in the match, neither on goal.

The Huskers’ record drops to 4-7 on the season and 1-4 in the conference. Nebraska will hit the road again for a three-game stretch, starting with a matchup against Wisconsin next Sunday. The match is set for 1:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.

Lady Vols, Alabama tie in Tuscaloosa

Tennessee and Alabama soccer tie in Tuscaloosa.

No. 23 Tennessee (6-1-2, 1-0-1 SEC) tied Alabama (7-2-2, 0-0-2 SEC), 2-2, Sunday at Alabama Soccer Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Crimson Tide led, 1-0, after Nedya Sawan scored in the 40th minute.

The Lady Vols tied the game, 1-1, on an unassisted goal by Kennedy Price. The match was tied, 1-1, at halftime.

Tennessee took its first lead of the match after Sammi Woods made the score, 2-1, with a goal in the 51st minute. Reese Mattern was credited with an assists on the goal.

Alabama salvaged a draw when Gianna Paul scored a goal in the 52nd minute.

The Crimson Tide out shot the Lady Vols, 20-12, in the match. Tennessee had seven of its scoring chances land on goal, while Alabama had four shots on goal.

Husker soccer falls big to No. 5 Michigan State

The Huskers fell to 3-5 on the season.

The Nebraska soccer team continued its five-game road trip by traveling to East Lansing Thursday night. The Huskers clashed with No. 5 Michigan State, and though they stood their ground in the first half, but the Spartans pulled away in the second half, resulting in Nebraska’s 4-1 defeat.

The Spartans finished with 15 shots and nine on goal, while Nebraska got eight total shots, with only two on goal.

Florence Belzile and Sadie Waite each pitched in a shot on goal for the Huskers, with Waite’s shot hitting the crossbar and crossing the line. Sarah Weber led the team with three shots, but none on goal.

The Spartans controlled the match, testing Huskers’ Cece Villa at the net throughout the night. Villa faced nine shots on goal in the loss, earning five saves but surrendering four goals.

Nebraska’s season record is 3-5. The will remain in Michigan as it heads to Ann Arbor to face the Wolverines. The match is set for noon on Sunday on B1G+.

Lady Vols defeat Ole Miss to open SEC play

Tennessee opens SEC play with a victory against Ole Miss.

Tennessee (6-1-1, 1-0 SEC) defeated Ole Miss (5-5, 0-1 SEC), 2-1, Thursday at Regal Soccer Stadium in the Southeastern Conference opener for both schools.

Tennessee allowed a goal for the first time in seven matches. Tennessee last conceded a goal in its season opener against Indiana on Aug. 15.

Kate Runyon totaled one goal and one assist in the match for the Lady Vols.

The Lady Vols led, 1-0, after Runyon scored an unassisted goal in the 26th minute. The Rebels tied the game in the 25th minute when Kelly Brady scored.

Tennessee’s Sammi Woods scored Tennessee’s second goal in the 60th minute. Runyon was credited with an assist.

The Lady Vols outshot Ole Miss, 13-8, and recorded 10 shots in the first half. Tennessee had eight of its scoring chances land on goal. The Rebels had three shots on goal.

Lady Vols defeat No. 5 Memphis for sixth consecutive shutout

Tennessee soccer defeats No. 5 ranked Memphis for sixth consecutive shutout.

Tennessee (5-1-1) defeated No. 5 Memphis (5-1-0), 1-0, Thursday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

The match between the two in-state schools was scoreless at halftime. The Lady Vols led, 1-0, after Macaira Midgley scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute.

The Tigers outshot Tennessee, 9-4, and Memphis had two of its scoring chances land on goal. All four of the Lady Vols’ shots were on target.

Thursday’s match marked the sixth consecutive shutout for Tennessee. The Lady Vols last shut out six consecutive opponents in 2021.

Tennessee has not allowed a goal since losing its season opener at Indiana, 1-0,  Aug. 15.

The Lady Vols will next play Ole Miss at home on Sept. 19 to open Southeastern Conference play.
